Abstract: The use of renewable sources for obtainment of chemicals, biofuels, materials and energy has become each time larger due to environmental, political and economical problems of non-renewable energies utilization. Among several products that can be obtained from lignocellulosic biomass, which is a renewable source, there is furfural, a chemical from which many other value added chemical products can be obtained. The main route for furfural production consists of an acid hydrolysis of hemicelluloses present in lignocellulosic biomass to obtain xylose, which goes through a dehydration reaction to produce furfural. Due to the presence of an aldehyde group and a conjugated system of double bounds, furfural can go through several reactions, allowing the production of a range of value added products. In this sense, this article performs a review about mechanisms of furfural production from lignocellulosic biomass, highlighting its chemical properties which enable its utilization in different industrial applications of economic interest.

Abstract: Brazil is the world largest producer of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum) leading to a great generation of residues such as bagasse and straw, which represent two thirds of sugarcane energetic potential. Regarding these residues energetic potential, it is interesting to study their application in biorefinery processes. Thus, this work aimed at performing a chemical characterization of sugarcane straw and bagasse from RB867515 cultivar grown in Rio Grande do Sul-Brazil aiming at their use as feedstock in biorefinery processes. The obtained results were compared to data from other states and it was possible to conclude that edaphoclimatic conditions of Rio Grande do Sul have little influence in sugarcane residues chemical composition. Sugarcane bagasse presents larger potential for energetic use because of its volatiles content (74.82%) slightly higher than straw (68.90%), besides its high lignin content (21.85%) and higher calorific value (18.70 MJ/kg). Both sugarcane residues produced in Rio Grande do Sul have potential use as substrate in the obtainment of high value-added products from their cellulosic fractions (41.30% and 37.25%, respectively). The evaluation of energetic and chemical potential of sugarcane bagasse and straw produced in Rio Grande do Sul leads to the conclusion that these materials have high potential for use as feedstock in biorefineries.

Abstract: in order to carry out the quantification of total and fecal coliforms in elapsing of the stages of water treatment by sanepar, paraná state, three different techniques of microbiological analysis had been used: (1) the official technique praised by the sanitary monitoring; (2) kit "a" and (3) kit "b". the three methodologies of the water microbiological analysis had been validated through positive and negative controls. the used methods had presented extremely homogeneous results when the samples were contaminated and also when the samples had passed through the purification processes, however, some discrepancies among the evaluated methods had been detected in intermediate stages of the water treatment. the use of commercial kits in water microbiological control is very practical because it eliminates the preparation and sterilization stages of the culture media in laboratory, however, it is necessary to analise carefully the cost-bennefit, sensibility and specifity of disposable products in market. the kit "b" utilizes an enzymatic method, instead the tradicional technique and kit "a" use both: the dim and gas formation to detect bacterial growth. the kit "b" had showed similar results to the other two techniques, but with the advantages of presenting extreme clear results and take a half of time in the results obtention.

Abstract: Background DNA repair mechanisms are crucial for maintenance of the genome in all organisms, including parasites where successful infection is dependent both on genomic stability and sequence variation. MSH2 is an early acting, central component of the Mismatch Repair (MMR) pathway, which is responsible for the recognition and correction of base mismatches that occur during DNA replication and recombination. In addition, recent evidence suggests that MSH2 might also play an important, but poorly understood, role in responding to oxidative damage in both African and American trypanosomes. Methodology/Principal Findings To investigate the involvement of MMR in the oxidative stress response, null mutants of MSH2 were generated in Trypanosoma brucei procyclic forms and in Trypanosoma cruzi epimastigote forms. Unexpectedly, the MSH2 null mutants showed increased resistance to H2O2 exposure when compared with wild type cells, a phenotype distinct from the previously observed increased sensitivity of T. brucei bloodstream forms MSH2 mutants. Complementation studies indicated that the increased oxidative resistance of procyclic T. brucei was due to adaptation to MSH2 loss. In both parasites, loss of MSH2 was shown to result in increased tolerance to alkylation by MNNG and increased accumulation of 8-oxo-guanine in the nuclear and mitochondrial genomes, indicating impaired MMR. In T. cruzi, loss of MSH2 also increases the parasite capacity to survive within host macrophages. Conclusions/Significance Taken together, these results indicate MSH2 displays conserved, dual roles in MMR and in the response to oxidative stress. Loss of the latter function results in life cycle dependent differences in phenotypic outcomes in T. brucei MSH2 mutants, most likely because of the greater burden of oxidative stress in the insect stage of the parasite.

Abstract: This paper aims at proposing a reflection on the various figurations of the Brazilian nation at the various rewritings of the poem "Song of the Exile", Gon alves Dias, whose central theme revolves around the question of nationality as a fictional construction. Thus, we intend to make a brief statement of fables created by the poetic imagery of the nineteenth century to today, strengthening the hypothesis that the idea of nation is tied to the notion of fictional construct.

Abstract: The focus of this research is to identify, through case study, as the process of market analysis as a tool of choice of marketing channel, can be a strategic instrument also suitable for success in the professional development of third sector institutions, particularly those aimed at the education sector, specially treated here. Thus, from a thorough market research in four cities where it operates the Sagrado: Rede de Educa o, listing the topics Marketing, Sustainability and Market Analysis techniques, and concluding with the Weighted Score method of visualization as a facilitator of decision foresees that its findings can assist in planning the organization not only presented, finding solutions aimed at overcoming the obstacles and difficulties, but it is an impulse to reveal all of which are similar to the pointed. It starts with the fact that among the main obstacles to the development of these institutions are: the load history in relation to pure philanthropy, management by intuition, the lack of technical and administrative workload carried by the officers focused more on activities purposes, the day-to-day business. These, among other factors, eventually causing a high rate of attrition among these organizations.

Abstract: currently subjects are facing two prerogatives: working, as the main priority in life and consumption, as a producer of lifestyles. such mandates, combined with the scarcity of jobs, put the individual without work and without employment is in a dramatic field which is permeated by agonism. when you take this context as background, this text will present the daily practices of two families of middle class, in which the man is unemployed, and the woman has to take the responsibility of having a job. from the analysis of such practices, it can be attested under the same norms, in a game of agonism between these and the contingencies that preclude the reiteration of them, multiple subjectivities and masculinities emerged.
