História e historiografia nas cartas de Capistrano de Abreu
Gontijo, Rebeca;
História (S?o Paulo) , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-90742005000200007
Abstract: this article analyses the correspondance of capistrano de abreu (1853-1927), considered by many as the most important brazilian historian of the early of the twentieth century. the objective is to recover some aspects about the historiographical exercise, considering the characteristics of the historian’s work in his age, so as to understand a double and simultaneous construction: from the historiography and from the historian.

A Physical Source of Dark Energy and Dark Matter
I. Gontijo
Physics , 2012,
Abstract: A physical mechanism that produces three energy components is proposed as the common origin of dark energy and dark matter. The first two have equations of state W ~ 0 and act like dark matter, while the last has W ~ -1 at low redshifts making it a candidate for dark energy. These are used to model the supernovae Union2 data resulting in a curve fitting identical to the LAMBDACDM model. This model opens new avenues for Cosmology research and implies a re-interpretation of the dark components as a scalar field stored in the metric of spacetime.
O valor-trabalho como fundamento dos pre?os
Gontijo, Cláudio;
Economia e Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-06182009000300003
Abstract: this article shows that the law of value is axiomatic and constitutes the necessary foundation of the prices of production. giving up this foundation means to break with the self-found principle of science, to abandon the unifying principle of classical economics in favor of unsystematic theories based on ad hoc hypotheses and to give up on a general theory of market economies. the neo-ricardian proposal to determine prices and the profit rate directly from "technical coefficients" and the real wage omits the length of the working-day and the intensity of the labor process, concealing the sociologic contents of those variables.
Nietzsche e Plat?o: arte e orquestra??o das paix?es

Kriterion: Revista de Filosofia , 2004, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-512X2004000100006
Abstract: this article aims to show the points of difference and affinities between nietzsche's and plato's thoughts on the role of the art in the individual self-governing and sovereign of culture.
On the criticism to the classical method
Gontijo, Cláudio;
Revista Brasileira de Economia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0034-71402000000100004
Abstract: this article addresses the most common criticisms on the "surplus approach''. it shows that the classical method avoids the excess of abstraction of neoclassical general equilibrium theory, which produces models that have no empirical content, and the lack of abstraction of the post-keynesian school which does not accept equilibrium. taking reality as a chain of accidental events connected in a dynamic logical process, the neoclassical school conceives market prices as empirical phenomena that nevertheless gravitate around moving equilibrium prices thanks to the adjustment mechanisms. though this gravitation process should be conceived as an axiom of logic, it can be modeled in such a way as to produce stable results under quite reasonable assumptions. finally, it shows that the classical concept of competition can be used for explaining profit rate differentials, which are the bases of the theory of oligopoly pricing.
As duas vias do princípio das vantagens comparativas de David Ricardo e o padr?o-ouro: um ensaio crítico
Gontijo, Cláudio;
Revista de Economia Política , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31572007000300006
Abstract: this article critically resumes ricardo's principle of comparative advantages pointing out internal coherence problems that have been neglected by the specialized literature. first, long-lasting disequilibria observed in the balance of trade seem incompatible with the idea that these disequilibria are caused by technical advances that change relative prices. second, comparative advantages do not seem to work in an economy with a universally accepted commodity-money. finally, the contradiction between the gold standard mechanisms, ruled by smith's "law of reflux", and the quantitative theory of money, which is a necessary condition for the "second way" of the theory of comparative advantages.
