Gonalves Júnior, Oswaldo;
Estudos Históricos (Rio de Janeiro) , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-21862011000100003
Abstract: a culture of resistance in the semi-arid, expressed by mentalities and values, goes against the economic potential of sheep and goat raising, considered as an inferior activity when compared to the cattle raising, historically linked to social status and prestige. this paper attempts to shed light on aspects that make possible to clarify the roots of the cognitive apparatus that supports this view, resorting to it to the production of relevant authors dealing with the issue of displacement of colonizer and livestock in the hinterlands. ultimately, it seeks evidence of the influence of the historical process of economic and social organization of space on the present.
Indicators Benchmarking of Cement-Based Construction Technologies: Brazilian Case Study  [PDF]

Open Journal of Civil Engineering (OJCE) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojce.2014.44025
Abstract: The adoption of performance indicators promotes knowledge of quantitative and qualitative material wastes in businesses and, when inserted in a collaborative process, provides a comparative evaluation of results between companies and, thereafter, an identification of best practices (bench-marking). The purpose of this paper is to present the best practices identified by performance indicators, related to the measurement of wastes and associated to construction companies participation in the benchmarking research process “Implementation of a system of performance indicators of cement-based construction technologies of the Community of Construction of Recife city in Brazil-PROGRIDE”, coordinated by the Brazilian Association of Portland Cement-ABCP. Therefore, it was sought to characterize best practices that led to the benchmarking of performance indicators related to the wastes of concrete, industrialized mortar for masonry settling and blocks/ bricks. As a contribution, a set of factors that characterize the best practices for each technology and conducted to benchmarking were identified.

Abstract: wounds to the abdominal-thoracic region are associated with diaphragm wounds in up to 48% of cases. lesions secondary to diaphragm trauma are present in the majority of cases, facilitating the diagnosis of diaphragm lesion and subsequent surgical management. however, diaphragm lesions are isolated in 8 to 10% of cases and because they present few or no symptoms may be overlooked. in such situations, can the diaphragm be treated conservatively without suturing? based on experiments in animals and a review of the literature, we concluded there is currently insufficient evidence to affirm that diaphragm injuries require no suturing.
Gonalves, Roberto;Saad Júnior, Roberto;
Revista do Colégio Brasileiro de Cirurgi?es , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69912012000100013
Abstract: trauma is the most common cause of death in the economically active population and thoracic trauma is directly or indirectly responsible for one quarter of these deaths. lesions to the large thoracic vessels are associated with immediate or early death in the hospital setting. patients admitted alive can be classified as stable or unstable. the access route to be elected for management of these veins will depend on this status, as well as on the anatomical particularities of the patient, which may require combined incisions for adequate access. this article provides a review and discussion of lesions to these structures as well as access routes to them.

Maranduba Júnior, Noé Gonalves;Almeida, Eduardo Sim?es de;
Economia e Sociedade , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-06182009000300007
Abstract: one alleges that the robin hood act has allowed one better distribution of the values of icms to municipalities of the state of minas gerais. the paper is aimed at verifying if the robin hood act has actually revealed a redistributive effect in tax transfers to municipalities in the state over the period 2001-2005, that is, if, in relative terms, poor municipalities have received more these transfers than rich ones. in doing methodologically so, an exploratory spatial data analysis and a convergence analysis are implemented to verify if the disparities of tax redistribution have diminished over the time. the findings showed that the spatial effects were important in the analysis as well as there was no redistributive effect in the period because the convergence coefficient was not significant.
Determining the concrete stiffness matrix through ultrasonic testing
Gonalves, Raquel;Giacon Júnior, Milton;Lopes, Igor M.;
Engenharia Agrícola , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-69162011000300003
Abstract: the determination of the modulus tangent (eci ) and of the modulus secant (ecs) of the concrete can be done using compression test but, to be simpler, it is used relations with characteristic strength (fck). relations are also used to determine the transversal modulus (gc) and, in the case of the poisson's ratio (ν), a fixed value 0.20 is established. the objective of this research was to evaluate the use of the ultrasonic propagation waves to determine these properties. for the tests were used specimens with fck varying from 10 to 35 mpa. for the ultrasonic tests were used cylindrical and cubic specimens. the modulus of deformation obtained by ultrasound was statistically equivalent to the obtained by compression tests. the results of modules obtained using the relations with fck was far away from those obtained by ultrasound or by compression tests. the poisson's ratio obtained by ultrasound was superior to the fixed value. we can conclude that the concrete characterization by ultrasound is consistent and, to this characterization the cylindrical specimen, normally used to determine fck, can be used.

Abstract: starting from viktor frankl?s contributions, the article concerns, theoretically, about the distinctions and relations between the noetic dimension (spiritual) and the religious dimension of human experience. we have described the noetic dimension, trying to explain its essentially human characteristics and unconscious expressions. we have remarked that on the moral conscience, man concerns about its transcendent aspect - by intuition - being able to say you to this transcendence and to build a relationship which takes the form of a religious experience.

Gonalves, Ludmilla R. C.;Gonalves, Eduardo;Oliveira Júnior, Lourival Batista de;
Nova Economia , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-63512011000200005
Abstract: suicide is considered a public health issued by the world health organization. suicide is amongst the ten most frequent causes of death in all ages, in addition to being the second or third cause of death between 15 and 34 years of age. estimates show that for every suicide there are at least ten suicides attempts that require medical attention and for every suicide attempt recorded, four are not known. the aim of this paper is to analyze the socioeconomic determinants of suicide rates for brazilian micro-regions, taking into account spatial aspects of the problem. the hypothesis of this paper is that there is a "spatial contagion effect" for suicide, that is to say, the neighborhood suicide rates are an important determinant of the regional suicide rate. this is achieved by the use of spatial econometrics techniques to assess whether there is spatial dependence for suicide rates in micro-regions.
