Introducing Engineering Students to Historical/Cultural Perspectives through Story-Centered On-Line Learning  [PDF]
Luis A Godoy
Creative Education (CE) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2011.22009
Abstract: Several authors argued that history of science should be an integral part of science education; however, there are many obstacles to carry out an implementation within this approach, including that lecturers normally lack a necessary historical background (a situation that is largely aggravated in engineering faculties), and the impossi- bility of including new courses or credits in an already tight curriculum. The development of on-line modules that engineering students can work outside their normal schedule of classes, introducing historical/cultural per- spectives, is presented in this paper. E-learning and knowledge management strategies are used in the context of science education at undergraduate and graduate levels. The approach is based on learning-by-doing in a virtual environment, and specifically presents story-centered activities, in which the student is faced with a problem and plays the role of an expert to provide a solution to the case. The specific case considered develops in the form of a controversy concerning the origin of the studies of column buckling. Two sets of information are available for navigation in the module: specific information that the student can explore (containing historical material di- rectly connected to the case provided), and more general information (providing the historical/cultural context to the problem). A first application has been made with civil engineering students, who had to write a two-page white paper as a consequence of their work on the problem. The interest generated in the participating students and the positive evaluation of their experience seems to indicate that this type of activity can serve to enhance traditional engineering lectures by incorporating a historical dimension. The present web-based approach could be extended to tackle similar conflicts in fields for which there is ample documentation available in the literature or in other historical episodes which may lead to rich discussions.
A Basis for Causal Scattering Waves, Relativistic Diffraction in Time Functions  [PDF]
Salvador Godoy, Karen Villa
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2016.710107
Abstract: Relativistic diffraction in time wave functions can be used as a basis for causal scattering waves. We derive such exact wave function for a beam of Dirac and Klein-Gordon particles. The transient Dirac spinors are expressed in terms of integral defined functions which are the relativistic equivalent of the Fresnel integrals. When plotted versus time the exact relativistic densities show transient oscillations which resemble a diffraction pattern. The Dirac and Klein-Gordon time oscillations look different, hence relativistic diffraction in time depends strongly on the particle spin.

Abstract: water contamination is a process that has begun to be reversed, or at least the reversal is being attempted. the delta of the thames river, an industrial zone in london, is the experimental site for a workshop that aims to use the pollution and tide changes as tools for the project.
conelchilenoresistentearte, Solidaridad: Chile Vive, una Exposición en Espa?a contra el Chile Dictatorial
Aisthesis , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-71812010000200012
Abstract: in 1987, chile vive, a mega-exhibition that included different artistic expressions, was performed in madrid to inform people about the cultural vitality of chile during their dictatorship. this essay will focus on a conceptual discussion about the problem of latin american art exhibitions abroad. it will analyze the configuration of the mentioned exhibition, focusing on visual arts as a unitary alignment of a political discourse of nation. the text will also examine the repercussion in the media of spain in that period of time. on the other hand, the article will develop some thoughts on the artists incorporations, exclusions and projections of chile vive, focusing on why the exhibition of chilean art abroad might be problematic, particularly the ones that belongs to this complex period of time; the military dictatorship.
Los últimos actos: Celebraciones del PJ-Juarista en su etapa final. Santiago del Estero 2002-2003
Andes , 2011,
Abstract: i analyze the intense deployment of the "partido justicialista-juarista" in santiago del estero, at party and government events in 2002 and 2003, moments of exacerbation of the crisis of the juarez, where they make the mechanisms of domination harder while appealing strenuously to the symbolic resource. i describe the staging practices of the party, specially as regards the performance of an amorphous and relatively independent segment into the party bureaucracy and the centralistic leadership of carlos and nina juárez, in relation to several groups that either join or confront each other on the stage; specially the female group (la rama femenina) and young peronists (la juventud peronista), the most mobilized groups during those years. from three events, i describe the exhibition preceding the main one, the official setting up of the square where the celebration takes place, and the ways the persons were placed at the scene, marking the relations between the different segments into the party organization. at last, i explore earlier ways of organization of different control areas and unidades básicas, the resourses mobilized, the exchange system established, the way they lived the event, and the senses that encouraged their participation in the organization work.
Regalos y castigos: Una aproximación a las relaciones entre justicia y política en el régimen juarista santiague?o
Cuadernos de antropolog?-a social , 2010,
Abstract: in this piece of work we are going to deal with the process of punishment that the santiagueno juarista regime articulates on the most important leader of the femenine branch, the most powerful group of the pj-juarista party. the sanction is structured in the partidary field (over the provincial government and the provincial state) and particularly from the judicial field in which the leader faces an intense criminal process. crimes such as "extortion" sanction the "presentation" of gifts given to the leader as a compulsory compensation for a job granted in the public area. this process allows to see the superposition and solidarity between the politics world and the judicial system in the regime. it can also be appreciated the exemplary mechanics of punishment and the misdemeanour it trys to rectify. a moral component which reveals in the severity of the sentence and the "dishonour" and "shame" brought to the defendant.
Fenómenos Migratorios y Género: Identidades Femeninas "Remodeladas"
Psykhe (Santiago) , 2007, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-22282007000100004
Abstract: migrations have important implications for women's identities. from this statement, this essay asks for the consequences of two migratory processes very different in the women's gender identity: the chilean women in europe, exiled by the military dictatorship regime, and of peruvian immigrant women in santiago, during the nineties. to answer this question, the essay proposes to establish a relation between theoretical developments from transcultural psychology, and other discipline's studies, to analyze psychological acculturation processes of immigrant women
O modelo da natureza e a natureza do modelo
Godoy, Ana;

Neurólogos para el siglo XXI Neurologists for the XXI century
Revista Chilena de Neuro-Psiquiatría , 2003,
Abstract: This editorial is aimed at motivating the exchange of opinions on the formation of neurology specialists in Chile. We are not only interested in the curricular aspect of university formation, which is perhaps the area with the best structure in our country, but also in other, sensitive and routine, aspects which are yet to be clearly defined. What is the role that belongs to scientific societies? Should they be directly involved in postgraduate education? Or should their role be limited to continuing education of the fully trained neurologist? Should practical training be an alternative for accrediting specialists? Is a national neurology exam useful or convenient? Considering that there are many valid answers that depend on the outlook and goals of each individual or institution, it is necessary to open an opportunity for a national debate on the subject. The Society of Neurology, Neurosurgery, and Psychiatry of Chile has the opportunity to collect and structure the ideas that come from the non-academic world. Health national authorities must bring elements related to the country’s health politics, which affect this situation. Finally, universities, which currently have complete and final tuition over the formation of specialists, have a fundamental role, that they cannot delegate. It is recommendable that there be national agreements on quality standards, allowing and valuing the autonomy and diversity of each university’s program. It is from this perspective that we publish in this number the minimum criteria recommendations proposed by the Association of Chilean Medical School’s Committee on Accrediting Neurological Training Programs
