Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2010,
This work had as an aim determine the net requirements of Zinc (Zn), Copper (Cu) and Iron (Fe) of Santa Inês lambs raised grazing in the semi-arid area. Animals with body weight between 20 e 30 kg showed corporea contents in empty body weight (EBW) in these minerals from 60.26 to 76.37 mg kg-1, 10.78 to 16.72 mg kg-1 and from 133.44 to126.98 mg kg-1, respectively. It was observed that increasing the PCV increased Cu and Zn concentration but decreased the Fe concentratiêson. The net requirements for lambs under pasture varied from 1.69 to 7.86 mg day-1 for Cu and from 7.20 to 27.4 mg day-1 for Zn. The results obtained in the present experiment suggest that the dietary requirements in Cu and Zn are higher than those recommended by NRC (1985), between 7 and 11 mg, with a maximum value of 25 mg for Cu and between 20 and 30 mg, with a maximum of 750 mg kg-1 of food for Zn, respectively. The net requirements for Fe varied from 8.46 to26.66 mg day-1 and were lower than that recommended by NRC (1985) for this mineral, from 30 to 50 mg kg-1 of diet.

The objective of this work was to estimate the body composition and the nutritional requirements in protein and energy for the weight gain of Boer and Mixed-breed goat kids, during growth phase, on pasture in the semi-arid region. The work was developed at ‘Nupeárido’ farm, in Patos- PB. Twenty-four goat kids were used, with average initial body weigh of 15 kg, distributed into four treatments with increasing levels of concentrate supplementation (0, 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5% of body weight). The animals, maintained under semiconfinement system, received feeding supplementation in individual stalls when they were gathered daily. Whenever one of theanimals of each group reached 30 kg of body weigh, all other animals of the group were slaughtered after a 16-hour fast. The body composition varied from 185.3 to 184.0 g of protein; 53.0 to 120.2 g of fat and 1,642 to 2,356 kcal kg-1 of empty body. The net requirements in protein and energy on growing varied from 146 to 145 mg and 1.92 to 2.75 kcal g-1 of gain, respectively, for animals from 15 to 30 kg of body weigh.

Acta Scientiarum : Animal Sciences , 2010,
This study used 12 Saanen goats with BW of 35 kg and daily milkproduction of 1.2 kg, in order to evaluate the effect of fat supplementation on the intake, digestibility and milk yield. Four animals were fistulated in the rumen for pH observation. The treatments consisted of a control diet and three diets supplemented with faveleira seed, faveleira cake and cotton seed. The data were analyzed in 4 x 4 chi squares, with three repetitions and the statistical analyses by Tukey's test at 5% probability. Fat supplementation decreases the intake of dry matter and of most nutrients, affecting milk yield and the composition of Saanen goat milk. Supplementation with faveleira cake and cotton seeds can be considered as an alternative feed for those animals.

Abstract: it was evaluated four levels of silk flower (calotropis procera s.w.) hay (sfh) as a substitute of sorghum (sorghum bicolor) hay (sbh) in diet for lambs. nutritional value of silk-flower hay was determined based on aparent digestibility and on metabolic, productive and economical performance of santa inês lambs. it was used twenty-four castrated males at 15.72 ± 1.92 kg body weight randomly distributed in four diets with silk-fklower and sorghum hay ratios (100:0, 66:33, 33:66, 0:100), and supplemented with a concentrate mixture based on 50% roughage:50% concentrate (weight/weight). increase in the levels of silk-flower hay in the diet reduced weight gain and nutrient intake and it increased feed conversion and digestibility coeficients of all the nutrients. nitrogen balance was similar in all levels of silk-flower hay, although there was a tendency of reduction in nitrogen retention at levels 66% and 100% of silk-flower hay. at the levels 0 and 33% of silk-flower hay in the diet, dry matter ingestion (170 and 180 g/day), daily average weight gain (84 and 89 g/kg0.75) and feed conversion (4.99 and 5.02) were satisfactory. silk-flower hay can represent up to 16.5% of the total food ingestion or 33% of the roughage in diet for lambs.

Abstract: the study of the metabolic profile has as objective to evaluate the nutritional status or possible metabolic disturbances that can damage the health and consequently the herd performance. in this work, the metabolic profile of lactating goats was evaluated, submitted to diets with different fat sources. 12 saanen goats with bw of 35 kg and daily milk production of 1,2 kg were used, distributed into a latin square with three repetitions. the diet comprised, without fat supplementation, tc (control) and with fat supplementation: sf (favelone seed); tf (favelone cake) and ca (cotton seed).the experiment was developed in four experimental periods of 14 days, with 10 days of adaptation to diets and four days for samples collection. in the last day of each period were collected blood samples. the inclusion of oleaginous seed into the lactating goats' diet decreased the dry matter consumption for metabolic unit (cmu) and consumption of crude protein for metabolic unit (cpmu). no significant differences in serum urea, creatinine, ggt (gamma glutamyltransferase), calcium, phosphorus, magnesium or glucose values were noticed in any of the four treatments. the serum levels of albumin in the animals that received tf were higher (p<0.05) than the animals of the control group. this work suggests that the oleaginous sources can be used as fat supplementation of lactating saanen goats; however, animals fed the tf showed a healthier metabolic profile due to the fat supplement.
