Cardiomyopathy protection in Chagas Disease  [PDF]
Jorge E. Mitelman, Luisa Gimenez
World Journal of Cardiovascular Diseases (WJCD) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/wjcd.2013.37069
Abstract: There is some published evidence suggesting micro vascular endothelial dysfunction and dysautonomia involvement in Chagas disease in association with cardiomyocyte changes favoring disease progression. The combined treatment between angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor drugs; Simvastatin, muscarinic antibody immunoadsorbent together with fungicidal drugs would open therapeutic possibilities in this disease.
Community, Alteridad* and Difference: The voices of difference
Fabian Gimenez
Analytic Teaching and Philosophical Praxis , 1997,
Abstract: We live in an age without certainties. The all-encompassing and universal tales of a highly metaphysical slant, impervious in their totalizing generality to the differences that give meaning to history and to our present, have suffered throughout this century a fate of disappointing dissolution.Based on this statement, our intention is to reflect on the role that philosophy and philosophizing play-in conjunction with the notion of community of inquiry - in our times, as reflected in the crisis of certain contemporary philosophical-narrative forms
International Action to Prevent Discrimination: The Situation of the Roma Community in the Field of Education
Judtih Gimenez
European Diversity and Autonomy Papers - EDAP , 2010,
Abstract: This article discusses why recent discriminatory incidents against the Roma community, one of the biggest minorities in Europe, rise in racism and anti-Roma hate speech in public discourse concerns international organizations. The first part of this article briefly outlines human rights bodies’ definition and regulation on the principle of equality and non-discrimination generally and in particular with regard to Roma education. The second part compares recent international human rights’ conclusions on Croatia, the Czech Republic, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and Slovakia with regard to the human rights developments of the Roma minority, and to the implementation of their national anti-discrimination legislation. In addition, the latter traces the debate on the access of Roma children to education in those countries, as well as reviews the European Court of Human Rights' case law, in particular with regard to two cases of Roma segregated education in Croatia and the Czech Republic. Finally, some conclusions are drawn as to how overcome the vicious circle of poverty and discrimination faced by the Roma population, in particular in the field of Roma education.
Matrix elements of four-fermion operators in the HQET
V. Gimenez
Physics , 1997, DOI: 10.1016/S0920-5632(97)00773-1
Abstract: The B-$\bar B$ mixing, B-meson lifetimes, the $B_{s}$-$\bar{B}_{s}$ lifetime difference and SUSY FCNC effects in $\Delta B=2$ processes are very important measurable quantities in B-meson phenomenology whose theoretical predictions depend on unknown matrix elements of several four-fermion operators. We present preliminary results for the matrix elements of the relevant four-fermion operators computed on a sample of 600 lattices of size $24^3\times 40$ at $\beta=6.0$, using the SW--Clover action for light quarks with rotated light quark propagators and the lattice version of the HQET for heavy quarks. As a necessary ingredient of the calculation, we also present results for the next-to-leading order matching of the full theory to the lattice HQET (one- and two-loop anomalous dimensions, one-loop QCD-HQET matching coefficients and one-loop continuum-lattice HQET matching coefficients).
New Results From Lattice QCD: Non-Perturbative Renormalization and Quark Masses
V. Gimenez
Physics , 1998, DOI: 10.1016/S0920-5632(99)00181-4
Abstract: For the first time, we compute non-perturbatively, i.e. without lattice perturbation theory, the renormalization constants of two-fermion operators in the quenched approximation at $\beta=6.0$, 6.2 and 6.4 using the Wilson and the tree-level improved SW-Clover actions. We apply these renormalization constants to fully non-perturbatively estimate quark masses in the $\bar{MS}$ scheme from lattice simulations of both the hadron spectrum and the Axial Ward Identity in the quenched approximation. Some very preliminary unquenched Wilson results obtained from the gluon configurations generated by the T$\chi$L Collaboration at $\beta=5.6$ and $N_{f}=2$ are also discussed.
Mal sem mudan?a - Notas iniciais sobre Angústia
Gimenez, Erwin Torralbo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142012000300021
Abstract: this essay attempts to highlight the main thrusts of the dramatic ethos of the narrator of graciliano ramos' novel anguish [new york: alfred a. knopf, 1946]. to this end, it studies the circular motion of the writing, which shuffles time and space to suggest disarray. in order to understand the reflux of images that make up the plot, its main analytical focus is, at least in part, the first fragments of the novel.
Graciliano Ramos, uma poética da insignificancia
Gimenez, Erwin Torralbo;
Estudos Avan?ados , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-40142009000300028
Abstract: focused on the problem of literary style, the essay investigates the dramatic disposition, that, in graciliano ramos' work, forms the novels and deepens in the memories. after having created his personal technique in the narratives of the 30's, surpassing the opposite tendencies of the period (materialistic and spiritualistic) in a dialectical realism, the writer derived to the autobiography, in order to not dissipate the set of tensions. therefore, the reading courses the paths of this style, in order to find the unity of the ambiguous view in varying ways, following the hypothesis that, if the author's dramatic perspective was not suitable in the novel of the 40's, because of the historical pressures, he concentrated on the memories.
Influência da desidrata??o na recupera??o da firmeza e na brota??o em cenoura
CALBO, ADONAI GIMENEZ;
Bragantia , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0006-87052000000100003
Abstract: 'brasília' carrot roots (daucus carota l.) have been exposed to different dehydration levels through the use of forced ventilation at 25 ± 2 °c. at relative water content smaller than 0.95, the turgor-dependent firmness, measured by the external force method, has been reduced to nearly zero, control roots had a firmness above 7.0 kgf cm-2. after a 67 day storage at 5 ± 2 °c, roots that had their initial relative water contents reduced to less than 0.75, presented a firmness recovery to more than 60%, as compared with that of the control roots, in addition showing significant sprouting. these levels of firmness recovery and sprouting had not been previously described. two hypothesis have been put forward to explain those results: a) occurrence of water relocation process in the roots; b) the theory of cellular cohesive shrinkage. the formation of small lisogenous cavities would favor the first hypothesis; however, accounting for less than 2% of the root volume, they would not be enough to explain the firmness recovery observed in roots with water volume reduction above 20%. by exclusion, it seems that cellular cohesive shrinkage has been the main factor in the firmness recovery observed, allowing significant sprouting in dry roots.
A rapid method for measuring soil water content in the field with a areometer
Calbo, Adonai Gimenez;
Scientia Agricola , 2002, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-90162002000400029
Abstract: the availability of a rapid method to evaluate the soil water content (u) can be an important tool to determine the moment to irrigate. the soil areometer consists of an elongated hydrostatic balance with a weighing pan, a graduated neck, a float and a pynometric flask. in this work an areometer was adapted to rapidly measure soil water content without the need of drying the soil. the expression u = (ma - mad)/(mm -ma) was used to calculate the soil water content. in this equation mm is the mass to level the areometer with the pycnometric flask filled with water, ma the mass to level the areometer with a mass mm of soil in the pycnometer, the volume being completed with water, and similarly mad the mass added to the pan to level the areometer with a mass mm of dried soil in the pycnometric flask. the convenience of this method is that the values mm and mad are known. consequently, the decision on irrigation can be made after a measurement that takes, about, ten minutes. the procedure involves only stirring the soil with water for at least 2 minutes to remove the adhered air. the soil water content data obtained with the areometric method were similar to those obtained weighing the soil before and after drying to constant weight, in an oven at 105o c.
