Abstract: Renal artery is one of the important vessels that seem the thickness of its lumen and different layers change at different ages and sexes. This study was performed on 24 sheep. After tissue processing and paraffin sectioning, the sections were stained with Green Masson,s Trichrom and ocular micrometry were used for study of lumen, tunica intima, tunica media and tunica adventitia in two sexes and ages. The thickness of lumen in male significantly was more than female in adult sheep but tunica intima, tunica media and tunica adventitia in two sexes did not show any significal differences at different ages. The thickness of lumen, tunica media and tunic adventitia in 2 sexes increased from neonate lamb to adult sheep and these increasing were significant.
Failures Analysis and Reliability Calculation for Power Transformers

Abstract: Failures of transformers in sub-transmission systems not only reduce reliability of power system but also have significant effects on power quality since one of the important components of any system quality is reliability of that system. To enhance utility reliability, failure analysis and its rates, failure origin and physical damage causes must be studied. This paper describes a case study of the reliability of sub-transmission transformers (63/20 KV) installed in Mazandaran province, operated in sub-transmission system. The information obtained from Meandering Regional Electric Company. The results of study and analysis on 60 substation including more than 110 transformers installed in sub-transmission system show that the failure modes of transformers can be represented by Weibull distribution. Weibull statistics have been widely used and accepted as a successful mathematical method to predict the remaining life time of any equipment. Useful conclusions are presented both for power systems operators and manufactures for improving the reliability of transformers.

Abstract: Objective. Our aim was to explore perceptions of periodontal health and illness and to examine attitudes and beliefs regarding prevention of gum diseases among Iranian adults. Methods. Our qualitative approach included focus-group discussions among adults aged 18 and above based on convenient and purposive sampling in Tehran. Transcripts of the four focus-group discussions were analyzed by two independent reviewers using a content analysis method. Results. Two major themes in the analyses emerged: the common perception of periodontal health and illness and the attitude towards prevention. The study demonstrated the subjects’ good understanding of prevention of periodontal disease, but their lack of knowledge of the aetiology of the diseases, and an inability to differentiate aetiology, symptoms, and prevention of dental caries and periodontal disease. Conclusion. This study revealed a need for oral health education among Iranian adults to improve their knowledge and change their attitudes to achieve deeper understanding of the aetiology and prevention of periodontal disease. Health promotion programs should address misconceptions about prevention of gum disease. 1. Introduction Periodontal disease is one of the two main and most prevalent oral diseases all over the world. The disease affects subjects in all age groups but is more common in adult populations [1, 2]. In addition, oral hygiene, diet, smoking, diabetes mellitus, male gender, and various socioeconomic factors are considered among the risk factors for periodontal disease [3–7]. Periodontitis is often preceded by gingivitis, which in the early stages of the disease process causes inflammation and bleeding during tooth brushing. If not properly treated, it often proceeds to periodontitis with destruction of connective tissues and finally results in tooth loss. The situation regarding periodontal disease varies among regions and countries [1]. WHO data show that periodontal diseases are common and comprise a serious health problem, for example, in many developing countries [8]. In the Eastern Mediterranean countries, the periodontal health status measured by the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) in 35- to 44-year-old showed that about 90% of individuals had signs of the disease varying from gum bleeding to deep periodontal pockets [9]. Tooth loss ascribed to severe periodontitis has commonly been apparent in 5% to 15% of adult populations, and in Eastern Mediterranean countries, this figure has been between 7% and 46% in older people [10, 11]. Abstract: Gait analysis of patients with neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis (MS), is important for rehabilitation and treatment. The Mircrosoft Kinect sensor, which was developed for motion recognition in gaming applications, is an ideal candidate for an inexpensive system providing the capability for human gait analysis. In this research, we develop a framework to quantify the gait abnormality of MS patients using a Kinect for Windows camera. In addition to the previously introduced gait indices, a novel set of MS gait indices based on the concept of dynamic time warping is introduced. The newly introduced indices can characterize a patient's gait pattern as a whole and quantify a subject's gait distance from the healthy population. We will investigate the correlation of gait indices with the multiple sclerosis walking scale (MSWS) and the clinical ambulation score. This work establishes the feasibility of using the Kinect sensor for clinical gait assessment for MS patients.
Simplifying Stochastic Mathematical Models of Biochemical Systems  [PDF]

Abstract:

Stochastic modeling of biochemical reactions taking place at the cellular level has become the subject of intense research in recent years. Molecular interactions in a single cell exhibit random fluctuations. These fluctuations may be significant when small populations of some reacting species are present and then a stochastic description of the cellular dynamics is required. Often, the biochemically reacting systems encountered in applications consist of many species interacting through many reaction channels. Also, the dynamics of such systems is typically non-linear and presents multiple time-scales. Consequently, the stochastic mathematical models of biochemical systems can be quite complex and their analysis challenging. In this paper, we present a method to reduce a stochastic continuous model of well-stirred biochemical systems, the Chemical Langevin Equation, while preserving the overall behavior of the system. Several tests of our method on models of practical interest gave excellent results.

Abstract:

Automatic text summarization involves reducing a text document or a larger corpus of multiple documents to a short set of sentences or paragraphs that convey the main meaning of the text. In this paper, we discuss about multi-document summarization that differs from the single one in which the issues of compression, speed, redundancy and passage selection are critical in the formation of useful summaries. Since the number and variety of online medical news make them difficult for experts in the medical field to read all of the medical news, an automatic multi-document summarization can be useful for easy study of information on the web. Hence we propose a new approach based on machine learning meta-learner algorithm called AdaBoost that is used for summarization. We treat a document as a set of sentences, and the learning algorithm must learn to classify as positive or negative examples of sentences based on the score of the sentences. A Simulated Annealing Algorithm for Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling Problem

Abstract: This study addresses the flexible job-shop scheduling problem to minimize makespan. In fact, the FJSP mainly presents two difficulties. The first one is to assign each operation to a machine out of a set of capable machines and the second one is to sequence the assigned operations on all machines. Hence, to solve this NP-hard problem, a simulated annealing algorithm is proposed. The meta-heuristic algorithm explores the solution space using a stochastic local search while trying to avoid local optima through accepting probabilistic moves to the worse solutions. The neighborhood search structures of assignment and sequencing are used for generating neighboring solutions to search the solution space. To evaluate the performance of the algorithm, twenty benchmark problems adopted from the literature are used. Consequently, the computational results validate the quality of present approach.
Application and Optimization in Chromium-Contaminated Wastewater Treatment of the Reverse Osmosis Technology

Abstract: Background: Chromium (Cr) is the most important element used to plate other metals and electroplating factories are still consid-ered to be the most important industries which pollute the environment to this metal. This paper describes a study con-ducted to determine the efficiency of reverse-osmosis (RO) as a membrane technique for removal of Cr from wastewater sam-ples synthetically prepared to be similar to electroplating effluents."nMethods: The RO unit used in this study was a spiral wound module of 2521 TE made by a Korean CSM company. Syn-thetic wastewater samples containing Cr ions at various concentrations of 1 to 20 mg/L were prepared and subjected to treat-ment by RO, and quantitative analysis had been accomplished by a colorimetric method. Evaluation of optimized condi-tions of treatment had also been carried out by determining the effects of changing operating pressure, temperature and pHS of samples."nResults: Optimum conditions of Cr-treatment by RO in 10 g/L initial Cr concentration were determined to be in the pH range of 6 to 7 and in temperature of about 25oC at an applied pressure of 200 psi."nConclusion: Considering the efficiency of Cr removal which was as high as 99% at the optimized conditions it could be con-cluded that RO membrane process may be selected and developed as an effective alternative for treatment of metal-contami-nated effluents of electroplating and similar industries.
