Las conexiones ocultas
Polis (Santiago) , 2010, DOI: 10.4067/S0718-65682010000100003
Abstract: education consists in making students perceive that they are constituted by, and part of, multiple social, environmental and cosmic systems and subsystems. this education entails a development that is at the same time cognitive, ethical, emotive and spiritual. this vision of education is opposed to several forms of reductionism that obscure important connections between phenomena and between these and the observer. in ethical terms, this learning consists in the recognition and production of positive sum games. spiritually, it consists of a feeling of togetherness with totality, which produces amazement, gratitude and respect towards the miracle of existence.

Abstract: dictyota pfaffii schnetter and d. humifusa h?rnig, schnetter et coppejans are two small species whose taxonomic boundary is not clear. they are so similar, that there are not reasons to consider these two species from the colombian caribbean, living in the same enviroments, different.
Innerarity and Immunology: Difference and Identity in selves, bodies and communities
Germán Bula,María Clara Garavito
Journal of Arts and Humanities , 2013,
Abstract: Daniel Innerarity’s Ethics of Hospitality highlights a tension in both communities and individuals between embracing difference and protecting identity, while recognizing that difference is constitutive of identity (the fear that dominates contemporary society is above all a fear of difference, of contamination). This dynamical relation between difference and identity can be seen in the workings of the human immune system, as explained by Chilean biologist and philosopher Francisco Varela: the immune system is a process of perpetual construction of bodily identity through self-referential cognition and distinction between self and non-self. This similarity allows for interesting analogies: for example, a society torn apart by xenophobia and chauvinism can be seen as analogous to a body ravaged by an autoimmune disease such as lupus. With the working hypothesis that the similarities respond to what Stafford Beer calls “systemic invariance”, this paper explores the similarities between the activity of the immune system and the relation between identity and difference in the work of Innerarity.

Abstract: forty nine macroalgal species (7 chlorophyta, 4 phaeophyta and 38 rhodophyta) are reported for the first time for the banco de las ánimas, at the southwest of santa marta city (salamanca gulf, colombia). the collections were made between 20 and 30 m depth. the green alga halimeda gracilis harvey ex j. agardh and the red ones corynomorpha clavata (harvey) j. agardh, cryptonemia sp., acrothamnion butleriae (collins) kylin, antithamnion ogdeniae abbott, antithamnionella breviramosa (dawson) wollaston in womersley and bailey, hypoglossum simulans wynne, price et ballantine and h. subsimplex wynne, are new records for the caribbean coast of colombia. the floristic composition of the bank has a similarity of 81 % with the one present at the same depths in the tayrona natural national park. due to this characteristic and to the exuberance of certain species, the banco de las ánimas is considered a refuge, in which these plants avoid the herbivorous fishes and urchins of the shallow rock-coral reefs.

John Rawls and the theory of modernization.
Abstract: This work discusses the value of the theory of modernization and describes the scope and limitations of Rawls' Theory of Justice. The theory of modernization has a strong darwinist legacy: the biological evolution from simple to complex forms is applied to the social context and the transition from traditional to modern forms becomes a linear process. Rawls' most recent work link the concept of justice to that of social order, and his principIes become relevant when the principle of difference become the principIe of the least difference, as the basis of all political freedoms. The author holds that there are a number of roads to modernization and, following Bidet, he states that different models of society may come to exist within the matrix of modernization, including capitalism, socialism and all points between.
Tolerance and development Tolerancia y desarrollo
Bula Jorge Iván
Cuadernos de Economía , 1994,
Abstract: One central obstacle in the way of modernizing societies in the Third World is the difficulty of combining tolerance and development the author studies the social, cultural and political conditions which favor social and economic development., avoiding economic reductionism of the kind which sees the market and economic growth as the only path to development as well as that which sees the disappearance of capitalism as the cure for all evils. Bula says that all societies are conflictive by nature, but some manage to solve their conflicts by consensus. In the Third World there are a number of economic and political interests opposed to the opening up of society", and progress towards equi ty and solidarity will only be achieved with contradiction and conflict". The challenge is therefore to form a "new paradigm" for democracy which gives values and qualitative growth priority over quantitative growth; one that prizes the quality of life and the environment. This is the task of society as a whole, from which the new social movements will produce the leading agents in the new paradigm.
