Abstract: this study was carried out from august 2001 to march 2002 to evaluate the influence of nitrogen (n) and potassium (k) levels through fertirrigation on yield and post-harvest storage of onion bulbs. cultivar alfa tropical was used in a randomized complete block design, in a 4 x 3 factorial arrangement, with four nitrogen levels (0, 60, 120, and 180 kg/ha) and three potassium levels (0, 90, and 180 kg/ha k2o) with three replications. the commercial yield showed linear effect in the doses of 90 kg/ha k2o and quadratic effect in the absence of potassium fertilization, with maximum yield with the level of 96.5 kg/ha nitrogen and minimum yield with the level of 136.5 kg/ha nitrogen with the dose of 180 kg/ha k2o. the increment of the levels of n reduced the non-commercial yield (culls) in a linear way. linear effects were observed with the increase of n doses for bulb fresh mass. there were no significant effects at 40 days of curing for mass loss, however, at 80 days of curing, significant effect was evidenced with the application of n and k.

Abstract: with the objective of indicating pickling cucumber cultivars of high productivity, two field experiments were carried out in petrolina, pernambuco state, brazil, from may to august of 1997. the experimental design was a randomized complete block with 18 treatments and three replications. experimental plots consisted of four rows of 3 m long, and the plants were on a 1.00x0.30 m spacing grid. the commercial fruits were classified as pickling (fruits length from 6 to 12 cm) and cornichon (from 4.0 to 5.5 cm). the cultivars eureka (34.54 t/ha) and francipak (33.72 t/ha) presented the highest yield for pickling. the cultivars pioneiro, vlaspik and wisconsin smr 18 showed the lowest yield varying from 21.43 to 23.45 t/ha. there was a variation from 30.74 to 37.79 g/fruit and from 9.01 to 14.81 fruit/plant. for cornichon stood out the cultivars vlasset and supremo, followed by vlasstar and prêmio which showed yield above 10.00 t/ha. the lowest yield was presented by wisconsin smr 18, with 5.61 t/ha. there was a variation from 6.09 to 7.27 g/fruit and 11.48 to 24.15 fruits/plant.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the yield of cornichon pickling cucumber cultivars in different sowing spacings. the experiment was developed out in petrolina, pernambuco state, brazil, from april to july, 1999. five cultivars of pickling for processing (calypso, eureka, prêmio, vlaspik and vlasset) and three plant spacings (0.20, 0.30 and 0.50 m) led in the low system were studied. the treatments were arranged in the 5x3 factorial scheme in experimental design of complete randomized blocks, with three replications. experimental plots consisted of four rows, each one 3.0 m long spaced out in 1.0 m, with two plants per site and the two central rows making up the useful area. there was negative linear effect on yield for cvs. vlaspik, vlasset and prêmio when interplant spacing (inside the row) increased. the lowest yield was observed for calypso and eureka under plant spacing of 0.50 and 0.46 m. the greatest fresh mass of fruits was found for cultivars vlasset (6.94 g/fruit) and eureka (6.82 g/fruit) with no differences between them. increasing interplant spacing resulted in positive linear effect for number of fruits per plant in all cultivars studied. cultivars had a variation from 12.18 to 15.10% in type 3 fruits (5.0 to 5.5 cm of length), and cultivars vlaspik (15.10%), eureka (14.50%) and calypso (13.60%) presented the highest ratios without statistical difference.

Abstract: the objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of different planting times and nitrogen and potassium levels on onion yield and postharvest storage, cultivar texas grano 502 prr. two trials were carried out from march to november 2001 and from august 2001 to march 2002, in brazilian northeast. a randomized complete block design with split-plot in a 4x3 factorial scheme was used. the plots consisted of planting dates (march and august) and the subplots of the factorial involving four levels of nitrogen (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1) and three levels of potassium (0, 90 and 180 kg ha-1 k2o) with three replications. the march planting showed higher commercial yield (66.5 mg ha-1) than august plating (41.4 mg ha-1). in the absence of the potassium fertilization and at the level of 90 kg ha-1 of k2o, linear increments were observed in the commercial yield according to nitrogen fertilization, while at 180 kg ha-1 of k2o, the nitrogen fertilization showed quadratic behavior, with point of minimum yield at 23.5 kg ha-1. regarding non-commercial yield (culls), the march planting obtained 6.0 mg ha-1 and august 5.4 mg ha-1. significant effects of n, k and of the interaction were observed for bulb mass loss at 40 and 80 days after cure.

Abstract: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a produtividade de cultivares de pepino para processamento, tipo "cornichon", semeadas em diferentes espa amentos. O experimento foi desenvolvido em Petrolina, PE, no período de abril a julho de 1999. Foram estudadas as cultivares para processamento Calypso, Eureka, Prêmio, Vlaspik e Vlasset e os espa amentos entre plantas de 0,20, 0,30 e 0,50 m, em sistema rasteiro. Os tratamentos foram arranjados no esquema fatorial 5x3, em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com três repeti es. A parcela experimental foi composta de quatro linhas de 3,0 m, com espa os entre elas de 1,0 m, duas plantas por cova, e área útil constituída pelas linhas centrais. O incremento do espa amento entre plantas teve efeitos lineares negativos na produtividade das cultivares Vlaspik, Vlasset e Prêmio. As menores produtividades das cultivares Calypso e Eureka ocorreram sob espa amento, respectivamente, de 0,50 e 0,46 m. Os maiores valores de massa de matéria fresca dos frutos foram observados nas cultivares Vlasset (6,94 g/fruto) e Eureka (6,82 g/fruto) que n o apresentaram diferen as entre si. Observaram-se efeitos lineares positivos do aumento do espa amento entre plantas no número de frutos por planta em todas as cultivares. As cultivares apresentaram uma varia o de 12,18 a 15,10% de frutos tipo 3 (5,0 a 5,5 cm de comprimento), tendo as cultivares Vlaspik (15,10%), Eureka (14,50%) e Calypso (13,60%) apresentado as maiores propor es, sem diferirem entre si.

Abstract: Com o objetivo de identificar as cultivares mais produtivas de pepino para processamento, instalaram-se dois experimentos de maio a agosto de 1997, em Petrolina, PE. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso, com 18 tratamentos e três repeti es. A parcela foi composta de quatro linhas de 3,0 m de comprimento, com espa amento de 1,0x0,30 m. Os frutos comerciais foram classificados na categoria conserva com 6 a 12 cm, e categoria cornichon, com 4,0 a 5,5 cm de comprimento. Na categoria conserva, as cultivares Eureka (34,54 t/ha) e Francipak (33,72 t/ha) destacaram-se em termos de produtividade. As cultivares Pioneiro, Vlaspik e Wisconsin SMR 18 apresentaram os menores desempenhos (21,43 a 23,45 t/ha). Verificou-se uma varia o de 30,74 a 37,79 g/fruto e 9,01 a 14,81 frutos/planta. Na categoria cornichon, destacaram-se as cultivares Vlasset e Supremo, seguidas de Vlasstar e Prêmio, com produtividades acima de 10,0 t/ha. O pior desempenho foi da cultivar Wisconsin SMR 18, cuja produ o de frutos foi 5,61 t/ha. Foram obtidas varia es de 6,09 a 7,27 g/fruto e 11,48 a 24,15 frutos/planta.
Produtividade de genótipos de batata inglesa tolerantes ao calor em duas épocas de plantio, no vale do S?o Francisco

Abstract: the experiments were carried out at the bebedouro experimental field of embrapa semi-àrid research center in petrolina, brazil, to evaluate different heat tolerant potato genotypes under two climatic conditions. the experimental design was of randomized complete blocks with seven genotypes (lt-9, 301251-1, 311320-1, 301217-1, 301159-1, serrana x dto-33 and cv. baraka) and four replications. under hot climatic condition (28°c) the genotype lt-9 showed the highest commercial yield (10.3 t/ha), followed by the other treatments that didn't show statistical differences in relation to each other, except the genotype serrana x dto-33 which showed the lowest commercial yield (2.7 t/ha). under favorable condition (23°c), the commercial yield varied from 17.5 to 23.3 t/ha, whereas the genotype 301251-1 showed the highest yield (23.3 t/ha) but there were no statistical differences between the different treatments. the results indicated that the genotypes lt-9, 301251-1, 311320-1 and 301217-1 could be cultivated during the hot season and the genotypes 311251-1, 301217-1 and 311320-1 could be cultivated under favorable conditions as an alternative to the baraka variety. however more investigation is needed.

Abstract: the experiment was carried out at the experimental field of bebedouro, petrolina, brazil, from september to november, 1996. the purpose of this study was to identify the highest yielding pickling cucumber cultivars. the experiment was iaid out in a complete randomized block design, with twenty-two cultivars (flurry, francipak, nautillus, primepak, navigator, vlasstar, vlaspik, vlasset, calypso, eureka, panorama, imperial, prêmio, supremo, he-671, he-713, he-601, he-657, premier, pioneiro, ginga ag-77 e wisconsin smr 18) as treatments, and three replications. experimental plots consisted of four 3 m rows, with spaces of 1.00 x 0.30 m. cultivars supremo (39.78 t/ha), vlasset (39.72 t/ha), ginga ag-77 (39.58 t/ha), vlaspik (39.21 t/ha), calypso (37.89 t/ha), francipak (37.87 t/ha), navigator (37.59 t/ha), primepak (36.95 t/ha), imperial (36.77 t/ha), panorama (35.99 t/ha) and eureka (35.13 t/ha) showed the significantly highest yields. the cultivar wisconsin smr 18 showed the lower performance, with 21.29 t/ha. considering the number of fruits per plant, cultivars vlasset (13.90 fruits), ginga ag-77 (13.83), primepak (13.58), panorama (13.55), supremo (13.54), calypso (13.01), vlaspik (12.83), francipak (12.59) and navigator (12.16) showed statistically the best performance. cultivars supremo (83.13%), he-657 (82.23%), flurry (81.55%), ginga ag-77 (81.31%) and eureka (81.24%) had the highest proportions of commercial fruit in class i, i.e., with lenght between 6 and 9cm, and lhe highest commercial value. ali cultivars, from sowing lo last harvest, had a cycle between 72 e 75 days.

Abstract: this study was carried out at the experimental field of universidade federal de lavras, minas gerais state, brazil, from may to october, 1991, and aimed at evaluating the influence of paclobutrazol doses on secondary growth control and morphologic and marketable characteristics of garlic (allium sativum l.). the experimental design was a randomized complete block with five replications and four paclobutrazol doses (0, 500, 1,000 and 1,500 mg of a.i. l-1). reduction in plant height and in number of leaves per plant at 60 and 90 days after planting was observed with paclobutrazol applications. total bulbs and marketable yields showed significant effects with the application of paclobutrazol doses, and both concentrations of 725 mg l-1 and 777 mg l-1 were the ones with best performance. the percentage of secondary growth evidenced negative quadratic effect with the increment of paclobutrazol doses, and the concentration of 1,163 mg l-1 showed the highest reduction. mean bulb weight increased up to the dose of 744 mg l-1 of paclobutrazol. there were no significant differences among treatments for cloves per bulb.

Abstract: O trabalho foi realizado no período de maio a outubro de 1991 no campo experimental do setor de olericultura da Ufla, Lavras, MG, com o objetivo de avaliar a influência de doses de paclobutrazol sobre o controle do pseudoperfilhamento e nas características morfológicas e comerciais do alho (Allium sativum L.). Utilizou-se o delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, com quatro doses de paclobutrazol (0, 500, 1.000 e 1.500 mg de i.a. L-1), em cinco repeti es. Com o aumento das concentra es de paclobutrazol, houve uma redu o na altura das plantas e no número de folhas por planta aos 60 e 90 dias após o plantio. A produtividade total e comercial de bulbos apresentou efeito significativo em rela o às doses de paclobutrazol, sendo as concentra es de 725 e 778 mg L-1 as que proporcionaram as maiores produtividades. A porcentagem de bulbos pseudoperfilhados evidenciou efeito quadrático com o incremento das doses de paclobutrazol, cuja concentra o de 1.163 mg L-1 propiciou maior redu o na porcentagem de pseudoperfilhamento. A concentra o de 744 mg L-1 de paclobutrazol proporcionou o maior peso médio de bulbo; e em rela o a número de bulbilhos por bulbo, n o se verificaram diferen as significativas entre os tratamentos.
