A Brief History of Industrial Robotics in the 20th Century  [PDF]
A. Gasparetto, L. Scalera
Advances in Historical Studies (AHS) , 2019, DOI: 10.4236/ahs.2019.81002
Abstract:

Industrial robotics is a branch of robotics that gained paramount importance in the last century. The presence of robots totally revolutionized the industrial environment in just a few decades. In this paper, a brief history of industrial robotics in the 20th century will be presented, and a proposal for classifying the evolution of industrial robots into four generations is set forward. The characteristics of the robots belonging to each generation are mentioned, and the evolution of their features is described. The most significant milestones of the history of industrial robots, from the 1950’s to the end of the century, are mentioned, together with a description of the most representative industrial robots that were designed and manufactured in those decades.

Update on Peptic Ulcers in the Pediatric Age
Graziella Guariso,Marco Gasparetto
Ulcers , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/896509
Abstract: Background. Peptic ulcer disease (PUD) in children is reported worldwide, although it is relatively rare as compared with adults. Helicobacter pylori (HP) infection is a common cause of PUD in the pediatric age. Other risk factors include the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agents (NSAIDs), steroids, immunosuppressive drugs, and stressful events. Aim. To critically review the evidence on epidemiology, diagnostic management, and available treatments for PUD in the pediatric age. Methods. A MEDLINE search was performed indicating keywords as “Peptic Ulcer Disease,” “Epidemiology,” “Pediatric,” “Helicobacter pylori,” “Gastric ulcer,” “Bulbar Ulcer,” and “Upper Gastrointestinal Bleeding.” A selection of clinical trials, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses within the time period 2002–2012 was performed. Results. PUD in children is reported worldwide with an estimated frequency of 8.1% in Europe and of 17.4% in the US. When the underlying cause of PUD is addressed, the prognosis is excellent. Standard triple therapy, bismuth-based quadruple therapy, and the sequential therapy represent the current recommended treatments for HP related ulcers. NSAIDs related ulcers are treated by stopping the causative medications and by administration of proton-pump inhibitors or antisecretory drugs. Conclusions. PUD still represents a major concern in the paediatric age. A careful differential diagnosis and an adequate treatment constitute an excellent prognosis.

Economic aspects of the right human tax benefits for disabled people Aspectos econ micos dos direitos fundamentais: benefícios fiscais para portadores de deficiência
Soraya Regina Gasparetto Lunardi
Scientia Iuris , 2008,
Abstract: This article approaches basic rights and their efficiency in the specific case of disabled people entitled to special conditions when buying a vehicle, but who are not able to drive. It points out the coherence of a systematic integrative and legal interpretation of CTN article 111 of the Federal Constitution and ordinary laws, as well as the coherence of the Courts when solving such issues. The research shows that companies do not accept to exempt customers from taxes when it is not the disabled person him/herself who will drive the car. On the other hand, when a systematic analysis was conducted, we could identify decisions that favor such rights even when the disabled person is not able to drive. Finally, the straight parallel of the basic rights indicates the change of responsibility for the acquisition process to the supplier and the State action, enabling and even rewarding resolutions like those as a solution to the analyzed problem.

Highlights in IBD Epidemiology and Its Natural History in the Paediatric Age
Marco Gasparetto,Graziella Guariso
Gastroenterology Research and Practice , 2013, DOI: 10.1155/2013/829040
Abstract: Background. The number of patients of all age brackets diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) has risen dramatically worldwide over the past 50 years. IBD’s changing epidemiology suggests that environmental factors play a major role in modifying disease expression. Aim. To review studies carried out worldwide analyzing IBD epidemiology. Methods. A Medline search indicating as keywords “Inflammatory Bowel Disease,” “epidemiology,” “natural history,” “Crohn’s Disease,” “Ulcerative Colitis,” and “IBD Unclassified” was performed. A selection of clinical cohort and systematic review studies that were carried out between 2002 and 2013 was reviewed. Studies referring to an earlier date were also considered whenever the data were relevant to our review. Results. The current mean prevalence of IBD in the total population of Western countries is estimated at 1/1,000. The highest prevalence and incidence rates of IBD worldwide are reported from Canada. Just as urbanization and socioeconomic development, the incidence of IBD is rising in China. Conclusions. Multicenter national registers and international networks can provide information on IBD epidemiology and lead to hypotheses about its causes and possible management strategies. The rising trend in the disease’s incidence in developing nations suggests that its epidemiological evolution is linked to industrialization and modern Westernized lifestyles. 1. Introduction The number of patients of all age brackets diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) has dramatically increased worldwide over the past 50 years. The changing epidemiology of IBD across time and geography suggests that environmental factors are involved in modifying disease expression [1]. Insight into the worldwide epidemiology of this disease is, thus, important to identify geographic patterns and time trends. Recent findings will also make it possible to estimate the global public health burden so that health care resources can be allocated and research can be targeted in specific geographic regions. Information about environmental factors hypothetically affecting the incidence and prevalence of this disease may, finally, lead to prevention interventions when possible. The aim of this paper is to review the current levels of knowledge concerning IBD epidemiology worldwide and to examine its natural history in paediatric patients. The first paragraphs of Section 3 of this report will provide an overview of statistics concerning the incidence and prevalence in the general and paediatric worldwide population, considering its two

Introduction Peptic ulcers are discontinuities of the gastric or duodenal mucosa with penetration to the muscularis mucosae and exposure of the submucosa [1, 2]. Primitive ulcers are caused by alterations of the gastric function (i.e., increased HCl production and pepsin function); they are mainly single lesions and are usually found at the small gastric curve and at the antrum. Secondary ulcers, on the contrary, are caused by extragastric pathogenic events, that is, stress or drugs. They can be multiple and can have a spread localization within the stomach. More than 20% of patients have a family history of duodenal ulcers. In up to one third of patients with duodenal ulcers, basal acid output (BAO) and maximal acid output are increased. A study by Schubert and Peura [3] attested that individuals are at especially high risk those with a basal acid production (BAP) greater than 15?mEq/h. In addition to the increased gastric and duodenal acidity observed in some patients with duodenal ulcers, accelerated gastric emptying is also often present. A common cause of peptic ulcers in the pediatric age is
