Abstract: protón pump inhibitors (ppis) have shown their usefulness in the treatment of acid-related disorders, highly prevalent in normal population. pain units are used to treating patients with a wide range of diseases, including acid related-disorders, who are also being prescribed many different drugs, like nsaids, corticosteroids or biphosponates, which may reactívate or even worsen acid-related disorders. knowledge of the pharmacological aspects of ppis, both their pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, is needed to properly choose the one which fits most to our multi-pathologic, multi-treated patients, in order to avoid possible pharmacological interactions than could endanger their health condition.

Abstract: Los inhibidores de la bomba de protones (IBP) son fármacos útiles para el control de la patología asociada con la acidez gástrica, patología con una alta prevalencia dentro de la población general. En las Unidades de dolor tratamos pacientes con pluripatología y polimedicados, entre ellas patologías asociadas con la acidez gástrica. Así como también utilizamos fármacos como AINES, glucocorticoides, bifosfonatos... que pueden reactivar, empeorar la patología ligada a la acidez. El conocimiento de los aspectos farmacológicos de los IBP, tanto farmacocinéticos como farmacodinámicos, es necesario y preciso para poder elegir el más adecuado para nuestros pacientes con pluripatologia y polimedicados evitando las posibles interacciones farmacológicas que podrían afectar al estado de salud de nuestros pacientes. Non-adiabatic entropy production for non-Markov dynamics

Abstract: We extend the definition of non-adiabatic entropy production given for Markovian systems in [M. Esposito and C. Van den Broeck, Phys. Rev. Lett. 104 090601, (2010)], to arbitrary non-Markov ergodic dynamics. We also introduce a notion of stability characterizing non-Markovianity. For stable non-Markovian systems, the non-adiabatic entropy production satisfies an integral fluctuation theorem, leading to the second law of thermodynamics for transitions between non-equilibrium steady-states. This quantity can also be written as a sum of products of generalized fluxes and forces, thus being suitable for thermodynamics. On the other hand, the generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation also holds, clarifying that the conditions for it to be satisfied are ergodicity and stability instead of Markovianity. We show that in spite of being counter-intuitive, the stability criterion introduced in this work may be violated in non-Markovian systems even if they are ergodic, leading to a violation of the fluctuation theorem and the generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation. Stability represents then a necessary condition for the above properties to hold and explains why the generalized fluctuation-dissipation relation has remained elusive in the study of non-Markov systems exhibiting non-equilibrium steady-states.
Structural Changes in Human Teeth after Heating up to 1200°C in Argon Atmosphere  [PDF]

Abstract: The phase transformation of hydroxyapatite (HAP, Ca10(PO4)6(OH)2) to the beta tricalcium phosphate phase (β-TCP, β-Ca3(PO4)2) at 1100°C is well known. However, in the case of human tooth, the HAP phase transformation is still an open area. For example, the CaO phase has sometimes been reported in the set of phases that make up the teeth. In this study, physical changes of human teeth when subjected to heat treatment in inert atmosphere (argon) were studied. The results were compared with those obtained in air atmosphere, from room temperature (25°C) up to 1200°C. Morphological changes were analyzed by light and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The HAP to β-TCP phase transformation was followed in powder samples by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). Heating of teeth results in the removal of organic material and structural water before the HAP to β-TCP phase transformation, the increment in hardness and the induced crystal growth. The percentage of the phases, crystal growth and lattice parameter variations as a function of temperature was quantified by Rietveld analysis. The black color was observed in dentin heated under argon atmosphere. Differences in expansivity produce fractures in dentin at 300°C in argon and at 400°C in air. In dentin, the coexistence of the HAP and β-TCP phases was observed after 800°C in argon and after 600°C in air; in enamel it was observed at 600°C in argon compared with 400°C in air. In general, the role played by the argon atmosphere during the thermal treatment of the teeth is to retard the processes observed in air.
Purification, Immobilization and Characterization of Lipase Isoenzyme from Aspergillus niger with C8 Magnetic Particles  [PDF]

Abstract:

The purification of a lipase isoenzyme from an Aspergillus niger lipase A is reported in this manuscript. Purification was carried out in a simple adsorption step, in which the lipase was offered at low ionic strength to the commercially available C8 modified magnetic particles, MaKProt C8. When the isoenzyme was desorbed with a 0.2% solution of Triton X-100, the SDS-PAGE gel showed a single pure band with a molecular weight of 35 KDa. The purified fraction showed 66.75-fold purification compared with the crude extract. The pure fraction was characterized along with the crude extract and the lipase adsorbed on the MaKProt C8. The purified and the adsorbed lipase showed better activity for the tested substrates (p-nitrophenyl acetate, decanoate, myristate and palmitate) than the crude extract, the preferred substrates being myristate (26.7 μmol·min-1·mg-1) and decanoate (17.4 μmol·min-1·mg-1), respectively. The temperature and pH profiles showed no change for the three enzymes, the optimum temperature being 37°C and the best pH 7.0.

Abstract:

Although the Model-Driven paradigm is being accepted in the research environment as a very useful and powerful option for effective software development, its real application in the enterprise context is still a challenge for software engineering. Several causes can be stacked out, but one of them can be the lack of tool support for the efficient application of this paradigm. This paper presents a set of tools, grouped in a suite named NDT-Suite, which under the Model-Driven paradigm offer a suitable solution for software development. These tools explore different options that this paradigm can improve such as, development, quality assurance or requirement treatment. Besides, this paper analyses how they are being successfully applied in the industry.

Abstract:

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of readiness of change for physical activity (PA), sociodemographic factors, lifestyle and physical activity status (PAS) on perceived barriers among Spanish university students. Participants: Seven hundred and seventy two (n = 772) men and women ages 17-39 at a north-west regional university in Spain participated in the study. Methods: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the States of Change for Physical Activity Behaviour Questionnaire and the Self-perceived Barriers for Physical Activity Questionnaire were used. Description, correlation and multiple regression analyses were completed. Results: Participants self-perceived low average-score barriers (2.6 ± 1.4 over 10.0). The 3-higher scores barriers corresponded to “too much work”; “lack of time for exercise” and “laziness”. Gender, PAS and self-perceived health were shown to be associated with perceived barriers. Conclusions: University institutions should consider those factors that predict barriers to PA to develop effective intervention programs.

Abstract: for many years the film industry has been a loyal contributor to the tobacco industry by showing actors smoking cigarettes onscreen and hence encouraging young people to become nicotine addicts. the prevention of nicotine addiction movement in the united states has adequately documented this phenomenon and there is now sufficient scientific evidence to demonstrate the close relationship between smoking in films and the onset of smoking in adolescents and young adults. to encourage social debate, working groups have been created to put pressure on the film industry through the use of commercials in mainstream media in the hope of making hollywood accept its responsibility and change its attitude. smoke free movies, an initiative led by the university of california, is making substantial progress toward limiting the appearance of cigarettes in american movies. in europe, and particularly in spain, these kinds of initiatives are still fairly new. the prevention of nicotine addiction movement in spain should learn from the united states in order to promote similar policies. some of the proven measures include the following: certification in credits stating no payment was received for the appearance of tobacco in the film, projection of anti-tobacco advertisements before any film that contains scenes with smoking, no brand identification and no subsidies for films that encourage smoking.
