García Andrade, Adriana;
Sociológica (México) , 2011,
Abstract: this article presents a theoretical-methodological proposal for observing an academic network and its position in a scientific space. the network's existence is verified with indicators like co-authored articles, a common project, shared suppositions, and the recover of ideas among its members. its positioning can be observed by using bourdieu's proposal on scientific capital. this is exemplified using bryan turner's network, which occupies an important position on topics related to the body and love in the english-speaking world. the article finalizes by tracing the specific way network members deal with the topics of the body and love, since, using bourdieu's premise, the dominant actors set the rules of the game: what is important to study and how to study it.

Open Journal of Preventive Medicine (OJPM) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ojpm.2013.38064
Abstract:

The purpose of the study was to examine whether retrospective self-reported weight changes during childhood and adolescence were associated with metabolic syndrome (MetS) risk factors in Mexican young adults. Mexican college applicants to the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, Mexico, 18 to 25 years old (n = 4187) who had applied for the 2009 academic year were included in the study. Participants underwent a health screening—anthropometrics and blood drawn—and completed a questionnaire. Five major weight change categories were defined based on self-reported weight during childhood and adolescence: consistently normal, consistently underweight, consistently overweight/ obese, weight gain, and weight loss. Most participants self-reported being normal weight during childhood (58.7%) and adolescence (58.3%). Only a small proportion reported being overweight or obese during childhood (10.1%) or adolescence (15.9%). Weight change patterns during childhood and adolescence were marked by overall stability: 40.1% of participants were consistently normal, 15.6% underweight and 3.6% overweight/obese. Among those whose weight changed, 25.0% gained weight and 15.7% lost weight. In regression analyses, weight change categories based on self-reported weight statuses during childhood and adolescence were not associated with current metabolic syndrome risk factors after controlling for measured current BMI. Studies addressing the association between weight gains in early life with metabolic syndrome outcomes in early adulthood should not rely on recalled weight status during early life alone.

Mu?oz García,Angel; Andrade,Gabriel;
Revista de Filosofía , 2006,
Abstract: this article is a comparative study of the way aristotle and alexis de tocqueville conceive the institution of the family within the context of ancient and modern democracy, respectively. a survey through the institution of family and marriage in greece and rome is made, and their links with the political ideas of those civilizations. in the same manner, the article contrasts the ancient understanding of democracy with tocqueville?s, and it analyzes the link that tocqueville established between the domestic home and the public sphere in modern democracies.

Journal of Electromagnetic Analysis and Applications (JEMAA) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/jemaa.2015.75016
Abstract: Solid-core silica photonic crystal fiber is proposed borrowing the concept of golden ratio (1.618) and keeping it between pitch and air hole diameter Λ/d in a subset of six rings of air-holes with hexagonal arrangement. In the case when we have a pitch equal to one micron (Λ = 1 μm), we need air-holes diameters d = 0.618 μm in order to achieve two zero dispersion wavelength (ZDW) points at 725 nm and 1055 nm; this gives us the possibility to use the fiber for supercontinuum generation, by pumping close to that points, pulse compression or reshaping. We analyzed a series of fibers using this relation and showed the possibilities of tunable ZDW in a wide range of wavelengths from 725 nm to 2000 nm, with low losses and small effective area. In agreement with the ZDW point needed, the geometry of the structure can be modified to the point of having only three rings of air holes that surround the solid core with low losses and good confinement mode. The design proposed here is analyzed using the finite element method with perfectly matched layers, including the material dispersion directly into the model applying the Sellmeier’s equation.

Ferromagnetic and underscreened Kondo behavior in quantum dot arrays
J. A. Andrade,D. J. García,Pablo S. Cornaglia
Physics , 2015, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevB.92.165416
Abstract: We analyze the low energy properties of a device with $N+1$ quantum dots in a star configuration. A central quantum dot is tunnel coupled to source and drain electrodes and to $N$ quantum dots. Extending previous results for the $N=2$ case we show that, in the appropriate parameter regime, the low energy Hamiltonian of the system is a ferromagnetic Kondo model for a $S=(N-1)/2$ impurity spin. For small enough interdot tunnel coupling, however, a two-stage Kondo effect takes place as the temperature is decreased. The spin $1/2$ in the central quantum dot is Kondo screened first and at lower temperatures the antiferromagnetic coupling to the side coupled quantum dots leads to an underscreened $S=N/2$ Kondo effect. We present numerical results for the thermodynamic and spectral properties of the system which show a singular behavior at low temperatures and allow to characterize the different strongly correlated regimes of the device.
