Abstract: Man has used plants to alleviate suffering and disease since times immemorial. The present study attempts to explore and document the traditional knowledge of medicinal plants used to cure different diseases. Present study revealed that either whole plant or different plant parts are used to treat various diseases. During the present investigation it was also observed that some plant species are used to treat more than one disease; likewise more than one plant species is used to treat a particular disease. These plant species are used to treat 35 types of different diseases. The paper also discusses the ethno medicinal use of 24 plant species, their vernacular name and part/parts used to cure various diseases.
Riboflavin Ameliorates Cisplatin Induced Toxicities under Photoillumination

Abstract: Background Cisplatin is an effective anticancer drug that elicits many side effects mainly due to induction of oxidative and nitrosative stresses during prolonged chemotherapy. The severity of these side effects consequently restricts its clinical use under long term treatment. Riboflavin is an essential vitamin used in various metabolic redox reactions in the form of flavin adenine dinucleotide and flavin mononucleotide. Besides, it has excellent photosensitizing property that can be used to ameliorate these toxicities in mice under photodynamic therapy. Methods and Findings Riboflavin, cisplatin and their combinations were given to the separate groups of mice under photoilluminated condition under specific treatment regime. Their kidney and liver were excised for comet assay and histopathological studies. Furthermore, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy of riboflavin-cisplatin combination in vitro was also conducted to investigate any possible interaction between the two compounds. Their comet assay and histopathological examination revealed that riboflavin in combination with cisplatin was able to protect the tissues from cisplatin induced toxicities and damages. Moreover, Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy analysis of the combination indicated a strong molecular interaction among their constituent groups that may be assigned for the protective effect of the combination in the treated animals. Conclusion Inclusion of riboflavin diminishes cisplatin induced toxicities which may possibly make the cisplatin-riboflavin combination, an effective treatment strategy under chemoradiotherapy in pronouncing its antineoplastic activity and sensitivity towards the cancer cells as compared to cisplatin alone.

Abstract: Variations in the anatomy of the gallbladder, the bile ducts, and the arteries that supply them and the liver are important to the surgeon, because failure to recognize them can cause iatrogenic injury to the biliary tract. A surgeon should be always be careful while operating in this area. In addition these anomalies are associated with a range of other congenital anomalies, including biliary atresia and cardiovascular or other gastrointestinal malformations, biliary lithiasis, choledochal cyst, anomalous pancreaticobiliary junction etc, so a look out for other anomalies should be carried out simultaneously. On the construction of l-equienergetic graphs

Abstract: For a graph with $n$ vertices and $m$ edges, having Laplacian spectrum $\mu_1, \mu_2, \cdots,\mu_n$ and signless Laplacian spectrum $\mu^+_1,\mu^+_2, \cdots,\mu^+_n$, the Laplacian energy and signless Laplacian energy of $G$ are respectively, defined as $LE(G)=\sum_{i=1}^{n}|\mu_i-\frac{2m}{n}|$ and $LE^+(G)=\sum_{i=1}^{n}|\mu^+_i-\frac{2m}{n}|$. Two graphs $G_1$ and $G_2$ of same order are said to be $L$-equienergetic if $LE(G_1)=LE(G_2)$ and $Q$-equienergetic if $LE^{+}(G_1)=LE^{+}(G_2)$. The problem of constructing graphs having same Laplacian energy has been considered by Stevanovic for threshold graphs and by Liu and Liu for those graphs whose order is $n\equiv 0$ (mod 7). In general the problem of constructing $L$-equienergetic graphs from any pair of given graphs is still not solved, and this work is an attempt in that direction. We construct sequences of non-cospectral (Laplacian, signless Laplacian) $L$-equienergetic and $Q$-equienergetic graphs from any pair of graphs having same number of vertices and edges.
Energy, Laplacian energy of double graphs and new families of equienergetic graphs

Abstract: For a graph $G$ with vertex set $V(G)=\{v_1, v_2, \cdots, v_n\}$, the extended double cover $G^*$ is a bipartite graph with bipartition (X, Y), $X=\{x_1, x_2, \cdots, x_n\}$ and $Y=\{y_1, y_2, \cdots, y_n\}$, where two vertices $x_i$ and $y_j$ are adjacent if and only if $i=j$ or $v_i$ adjacent to $v_j$ in $G$. The double graph $D[G]$ of $G$ is a graph obtained by taking two copies of $G$ and joining each vertex in one copy with the neighbours of corresponding vertex in another copy. In this paper we study energy and Laplacian energy of the graphs $G^*$ and $D[G]$, $L$-spectra of $G^{k*}$ the $k$-th iterated extended double cover of $G$. We obtain a formula for the number of spanning trees of $G^*$. We also obtain some new families of equienergetic and $L$-equienergetic graphs.
INVOLVEMENT OF MANNERS AND MODALITIES IN MEDICO-LEGAL DEATHS

Abstract: A prospective study was conducted to elaborate the “Manners of Death” and modalities involved in medicolegal(unnatural) deaths reported in the casualty department Quaid-i-Azam Medical College BahawalVictoria Hospital Bahawalpur. Total 214 cases were studied over a period of three years (01-01-97 to 31-12-99) in which 80.3% were homicidal, 14% were accidental and 5.6% were of suicidal in nature. Maleinvolvement was more than female victims. The firearms were used in the maximum number of homicidalcases (44.1%), the method adopted for suicidal deaths in maximum number of cases was mostlystrangulations (50%) and roadside mishaps were the major cause of death among accidental cases(60%).

Abstract: O BJECTIVES: To observe the various histological types of lesions in order to evaluate the different sitesinvolved and correlate the lesions with tobacco use. SETTING: Dental Department of Jinnah PostgraduateMedical Centre Karachi. METHODS: Biopsies from 75 clinically diagnosed patients were examined afterstaining them with haemotoxylin and Eosin, Masson Trichrome, Periodic Acid Schiff reagent, Reticulin andGrocott Gomori stains. RESULTS: N 38 were males and 37 were females . Maximum number of patientssuffering from Leukoplakia were in their fifth and sixth decades with a slight male preponderance. Mixed habitswere found in majority of the patients with buccal mucosa being the dominant site. CONCLUSION: Everywhite lesion of the oral cavity must be thoroughly investigated as it could result from a simple hyperplasticepithelium upto a frank carcinoma.
WEAPONRY PATTERNS IN THE HOMICIDAL DEATHS IN BAHAWALPUR

Abstract: This prospective study was conducted to elaborate the types of weapons used in the homicidal deaths in theregion of Bahawalpur. 172 cases were studied over a period of three years (01.01.1997 to 31.12.1999) inwhich male percentage was 87.2% and female percentage was 12.8. Maximum number of cases (34.7%)were noted in between 21-30 years of age. The firearms were used in the maximum of cases which were(44.1%). The second method adopted for homicidal deaths was the use of sharp edged weapons (22.2%).The rural population is more involved (58.1%) in the homicidal crimes than urban population (41.9%).
Mutagenic Effectiveness and Efficiency of Gamma Rays, Ethyl Methane Sulphonate and their Combination Treatments in Chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Abstract: The present study was undertaken to assess the effectiveness and efficiency of gamma rays, EMS and their combined treatments in chickpea. Seeds of two varieties of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) were treated with gamma rays (150 Gy, 200G y, 300G y and 400G y), EMS (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 and 0.4%) and their combinations (200 Gy+0.2% EMS, 300 Gy+0.2% EMS, 200 Gy+0.3% EMS and 300 Gy+0.3% EMS). The biological damage was calculated in M1 generation based on seed lethality (L), seedling injury (I), pollen sterility (S) and meiotic aberrations (M). The M2 population was carefully screened for various chlorophyll mutations. Mutagenic effectiveness and efficiency was calculated based on biological damage in M1 and chlorophyll mutations in M2. Mutagenic effectiveness increased with the increase in dose/treatment. Combination treatments in general proved to be more effective followed by individual treatments of EMS and gamma rays. Mutagenic efficiency varied depending upon the criteria selected for its estimation and the degree of efficiency of various mutagens also showed variation. Intermediate treatments in general were found more efficient in causing less biological damage and inducing maximum amount of mutations. The order of efficiency, however, was gamma rays+EMS>EMS>gamma rays. Among the two varieties, var. Pusa-372 proved to be more sensitive to mutagenic treatment than the var. Pusa-212.
