Abstract: in this study an osteosynthesis technique of diaphyseal transverse humeral fractures with preserved canine fibula or tibia in honey was evaluated in pigeons by clinical, histologic and radiographic observations. fourteen pigeons were studied. anesthesia was induced and mainteined with halothane. a transverse right midshalft humeral fracture was created using an oscillating bone saw. the fracture was reduced, and the xenograft was inserted intramedullary early and associated with cerclage wire. the mean + standart deviation for bone healing were 41 + 4.74 days. the mean + standart deviation for flight capability were 24.81 + 3.65 days. the bone resorption of the xenograft occured in 180 days. the proposed surgical technique is apropriated for humeral fractures in domestic pigeons (columba livia) and the results of this study showed that honey is appropriate preservation of xenografts.

Abstract: in order to evaluate the efficacy of polymethylmethacrylate with or without a mucoperiosteal single flap in the treatment of experimental oronasal fistula of canine teeth, in 12 dogs, an experimental model is presented. the dogs were observed for a 60-day period, with clinical, histhological and radiological evaluation. the main complication was recurrence due to acrylic migration and partial or total suture failure. the histhopathologic analysis showed evidence of chronic inflammatory reaction. in the radiographic evaluation fracture consolidation adjacent to the acrylic was observed. the experimental model is appropriate to study the repair of oronasal fistula in dogs. the polymethylmethacrylate is efficient for the repair of experimental oronasal fistula, without evidence of rejection, and it can be utilized associated or not to a mucoperiosteal single flap.

Abstract: the efficiency of autogenous pericardial flap was evaluated as an alternative surgical procedure for repairing lesion in the thoracic esophagus in the feline. twelve adult cats were studied. six animals were observed at the 15th day and other animals at the 30th day. all animals were submitted to esophageal resection and subsequently repair with autogenous pericardial graft. the animals were clinically evaluated after surgery. at the determined period of observation the animals were sacrificed. gross and microscopic evaluation were done from the surgical site at the esopahagus. an esophageal mucous membrane proliferation was identified on most of the grafts.
