Many efforts have been made by the World Health Organization to eradicate poliomyelitis worldwide, a disease that causes irreversible paralysis for life in addition to adverse economic effects for the patient and his/her family as well. For the first time, there is a technical cooperation project between countries outside The Americas, in which the capabilities, strength, commitment and potentialities of the Cuban medicine was again stressed in the world. Twenty Cuban physicians were involved in the first phase (January-July 2008) and 7 in the second phase (January-April 2009). The objective of this cooperation was focused on comprehensive teamwork, strengthening of surveillance, control of immunopreventable diseases, improvement of regular vaccination coverage, formation of human resources and support to vaccination campaigns. It was possible to make a large amount of health workers and the community sensitive to the detection of acute flaccid paralysis as well as other immnopreventable diseases, to strengthen active search
Montalvo álvarez,Ana Margarita;
Revista Cubana de Higiene y Epidemiolog?-a , 2010,
Abstract: leishmania is a parasitic protozoon causing leishmaniasis, disease with a varied clinic presentation and a wide world distribution. who considers it as a non-controlled and re-emergent disease and its transmission patterns have been affected in past years by the human action among other features. its diagnosis change according to the clinical way of presentation and nowadays it is recommended the identification of infectious species like a very useful feature to prescribe a appropriate treatment, to perform the clinical monitoring and the most important in epidemiologic studies including the vector and or reservoirs study. the timely treatment is until now one of the few available control measures since despite the efforts performed there isn't a vaccine against this affection. the aim of present paper is to present a literature review including significant features of leishmaniasis in the present international context.

Vega Montalvo,Raiza; álvarez Fong,Mayleng;
Revista Cubana de Farmacia , 2001,
Abstract: the eye may be accidentally damaged by many products of daily use. to guarantee the consumers? safety it is necessary to estimate the eye irritation potential of these chemical substances. this estimation is based on the results obtained in the draize rabbit eye irritation test. however, the advances attained in the development of in vitro toxicology have allowed the use of some alternatives to evaluate the ocular risk. therefore, a review is made on the different alternative methods available up to now that make possible the evaluation in one way or another of the toxic effects at the ocular level.

Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2012.329160
Abstract: Gravity data are sensitive to local vertical offsets across high-angle faults, where rocks with different densities are juxtaposed. Yet high densities in some Mesozoic sedimentary rocks just above the basement may smear out the subtle gravity signatures of basement faults. At this study the gravity data processing tends to avoid ill-described “black-box” techniques. The study area is situated in the Palomas site, Cuatrociénegas region, Coahuila, NE Mexico. The San Marcos Fault is at least 300 km long and has WNW-ESE trend from the central part of Nuevo León State through Coahuila, and finally to the eastern part of Chihuahua State. Gravimetric data shows that the lowest values of free air and Bouguer anomalies are in the southern part of the area, and the highest values are in the western and central part of the area. Between these parts exists a zone of high horizontal gravity gradient. Configuration of linear elements of gravity field (gradient zones) delimited the San Marcos Fault in the San Marcos valley below thickness of recent sedimentary cover. Two density models were carried out, which showed that the Cretaceous rocks are in discordant contact with the Paleo- zoic rocks that can be related to the San Marcos Fault. The density was determinate using to Nettleton’s method, which results highlight the presence of the San Marcos Fault. Density models showed that the Quaternary sediments are in direct contact with the San Marcos Fault.

Abstract: introduction: the induction of heat shock proteins is a homeostatic mechanism that protects cells from the deleterious effects of thermal and other environmental stresses. in addition, they have important cell functions. the 20kda heat shock protein in leishmania amazonensis was recently reported. objective: to describe the methodology used for cloning of heat shock proteins, which allowed the study of some biological properties. methods: the hsp20 gene coding region was amplified by polymerase chain reaction using adequate primers. the amplified product was initially cloned in pcr2.1 vector (invitrogen) and then in pet-28b vector (novagen), to obtain recombinant protein. the same fragment was cloned also in the eukariote expression vector pcdna3 (invitrogen). the nucleotidic sequencing of the different clones was made, in order to verify their fidelity. results: the recombinant plasmids that encode hsp20 protein in leishmania and allow obtaining massively recombinant protein and dna were produced. conclusions: both plasmids were useful to study some of the biological properties of this protein. this approach could be useful for similar research and represent a suitable methodological guideline.
