A general study on the volume dependence of spectral weights in lattice field theory

Abstract: It has been suggested that the volume dependence of the spectral weight could be utilized to distinguish single and multi-particle states in Monte Carlo simulations. In a recent study using a solvable model, the Lee model, we found that this criteria is applicable only for stable particles and narrow resonances, not for the broad resonances. In this paper, the same question is addressed within the finite size formalism outlined by L\"uscher. Using a quantum mechanical scattering model, the conclusion that was found in previous Lee model study is recovered. Then, following similar arguments as in L\"uscher's, it is argued that the result is valid for a general massive quantum field theory under the same conditions as the L\"uscher's formulae. Using the spectral weight function, a possibility of extracting resonance parameters is also pointed out.
The Numerical Analyses of the Planar Rectangular Waveguide Having Alterable Single Mode's Working Band Width

Abstract: By inserting a dielectric layer, covered by a grounded metal plane, into a hollow rectangular waveguide (HRWG), a planar rectangular waveguide (PRWG) is structured. It is a new candidate solution for both MMIC and hybrid planar RF circuit applications. An intensive numerical analysis of the PRWG is conducted by a 2-D FDTD method. The propagation characteristics of the PRWG with different physical dimensions and electrical parameters are presented. This analysis shows that the PRWG can give an alterable single mode working bandwidth for dominant mode compared with the HRWG, and the size of the transverse section of the PRWG is smaller than the HRWG under the same cutoff frequency of dominant mode.
Local Realistic Model for Two-Particle Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen Pairs

Abstract: A local realistic model for quantum mechanics of two-particle Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen pairs is proposed. In this model, it is the strict obedience of conservation laws in each event at the quantum level that uphold the perfect correlation of two spatially-separated particles, instead of nonlocality in the orthodox formulation of quantum mechanics. Therefore, one can conclude that all components of the spin of two particles, and the position and momentum of a particle can be measured simultaneously. The proposed model yields the same statistical prediction on an ensemble of individual particles as the orthodox formulation does. This suggests that the wave function is not a complete description of individual particle as assumed in the orthodox formulation, but only a statistical description of an ensemble of particles.
Atom Interferometers: Beyond Complementarity Principles

Abstract: Complementarity lies at the heart of conceptual foundation of orthodox quantum mechanics. The wave-particle duality makes it impossible to tell which slit each particle passes through and still observe an interference pattern in a Young's double-slit experiment. In this paper, this duality is appraised under the standard formulation of quantum mechanics for atom interferometers. It is found that the internal freedoms like electronic states of an atom can be used to detect the which-path information of each atom while uphold the interference pattern of atoms when the center-of-mass motion of atoms is detected.
Bioaccumulation and Toxicity Test of Diethylstilbestrol to Zebrafish (Danio rerio) Embryo

Abstract: 采用HPLC和斑马鱼胚胎发育方法,测定了己烯雌酚(DES)在标准模式种斑马鱼胚胎体内的蓄积规律及胚胎毒性效应,并利用定量活性-结构分析(QSAR)和基因芯片技术,探讨了DES对斑马鱼胚胎的致毒机制.结果表明,在0.2 mg/L DES中暴露24、 48和72 h后,胚胎体内的DES含量分别为(25.78±4.95)、(54.88±7.10)和(71.93±10.55)μg/g;不同起始染毒时间(0 hpf和8 hpf)条件下,亚致死最敏感指标均为72 h孵化率抑制,EC50分别为(0.14±0.09)和(0.33±0.14) mg/L,说明胚胎在发育囊胚期(发育8 h)前对DES暴露更为敏感.QSAR研究发现,DES相对其它酚类类雌激素对斑马鱼胚胎具有较高的毒性,这与它具有较高的TE值(51.121 7 eV)相关;基因芯片研究发现,5 μg/L DES暴露21 d后能导致斑马鱼成鱼部分基因表达异常.DES对斑马鱼具有一定的胚胎毒性和遗传毒性,而生化反应是致毒的关键步骤.
Requirement of SLD5 for Early Embryogenesis

Abstract: SLD5 forms a GINS complex with PSF1, PSF2 and PSF3, which is essential for the initiation of DNA replication in lower eukaryotes. Although these components are conserved in mammals, their biological function is unclear. We show here that targeted disruption of SLD5 in mice causes a defect in cell proliferation in the inner cell mass, resulting in embryonic lethality at the peri-implantation stage, indicating that SLD5 is essential for embryogenesis. Moreover, this phenotype of SLD5 mutant mice is quite similar compared with that of PSF1 mutant mice. We have previously reported that haploinsufficiency of PSF1 resulted in failure of acute proliferation of bone marrow hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) during reconstitution of bone marrow ablated by 5-FU treatment. Since SLD5 was highly expressed in bone marrow, we investigated its involvement in bone marrow reconstitution after bone marrow ablation as observed in PSF1 heterozygous mutant mice. However, heterozygous deletion of the SLD5 gene was found not to significantly affect bone marrow reconstitution. On the other hand, abundant SLD5 expression was observed in human cancer cell lines and heterozygous deletion of the gene attenuated tumor progression in a murine model of spontaneous gastric cancer. These indicated that requirement and dependency of SLD5 for cell proliferation is different in different cell types.
Directional Enhanced Probe for Side-Illumination Tip Enhanced Spectroscopy

Abstract: We demonstrate a high-performance apertureless near-field probe made of a tapered metal tip with a set of periodic shallow grooves near the apex. The spontaneous emission from a single emitter near the tip is investigated systematically for the side-illumination tip enhanced spectroscopy (TES). In contrast with the bare tapered metal tip in conventional side-illumination TES, the corrugated probe not only enhances strongly local excitation field but also concentrates the emission directivity, which leads to high collection efficiency and signal-to-noise ratio. In particular, we propose an asymmetric TES tip based on two coupling nanorods with different length at the apex to realize unidirectional enhanced emission rate from a single emitter. Interestingly, we find that the radiation pattern is sensitive to the emission wavelength and the emitter positions respective to the apex, which can result in an increase of signal-to-noise ratio by suppressing undesired signal. The proposed asymmetrical corrugated probe opens up a broad range of practical applications, e.g. increasing the detection efficiency of tip enhanced spectroscopy at the single-molecule level.
Investigation of third-order nonlinear optical properties of two azo-nickel chelate compounds

Abstract: This paper investigates the third-order nonlinear optical properties of two azo-nickel chelate compounds by the optical Kerr gate method at 830\,nm wavelength with pulse duration of 120\,fs. Both of the two compounds exhibited large third-order optical nonlinearity. The second-order hyperpolarizability, $\gamma$, of Compound 1 is of $1.0\times 10^{ - 31}$\,esu. Due to the charge transfer, the $\gamma$ of Compound 2 with electron donor and acceptor group is $4.9\times10^{ - 31}$\,esu, which is a four-time enhancement in comparison with Compound 1. The absorption spectra show that the electron push--pull effect, which induces intramolecular charge transfer, leads to the increased optical nonlinearity.
Isothermal oxidation behavior and mechanism of a nickel-based superalloy at 1000°C

Abstract: The oxidation behavior of a nickel-based superalloy at 1000°C in air was investigated through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analysis. A series of oxides, including external oxide scales (Cr2O3, (TiO2 + MnCr2O4)) and internal oxides (Al2O3,TiN), were formed on the surface or sub-surface of the substrate at 1000°C in experimental still air. The oxidation resistance of the alloy was dependent on the stability of the surface oxide layer. The continuity and density of the protective Cr2O3 scale were affected by minor alloying elements such as Ti and Mn. The outermost oxide scale was composed of TiO2 rutile and MnCr2O4 spinel, and the growth of TiO2 particles was controlled by the outer diffusion of Ti ions through the pre-existing oxide layer. Severe internal oxidation occurred beneath the external oxide scale, consuming Al and Ti of the strength phase γ′ (Ni3(Al,Ti)) and thereby severely deteriorating the surface mechanical properties. The depth of the internal oxidation region was approximately 35 μm after exposure to experimental air at 1000°C for 80 h.
