Abstract: introduction: leishmaniasis is an infectious and parasitic zoonotic, non-contagious, vector-borne disease caused by protozoa of the genus leishmania. in brazil, the major vector of leishmania (leishmania) infantum chagasi (cunha & chagas, 1934) is lutzomyia longipalpis. barra do gar?as, state of mato grosso, was designated as a priority area by the brazilian ministry of health for american visceral leishmaniasis, and it is important to identify the vector species present in this municipality. our objective was to raise sandflies and study the influence of environmental variables on the vector density of lutzomyia longipalpis. methods: we performed entomological monitoring in 3 districts using centers for disease control and prevention (cdc) light traps and recorded human cases of american visceral leishmaniasis in the city. we calculated the relative frequency and richness of sandflies and applied a transfer function model to the vector density correlate with relative humidity. results: the sandfly population was composed of 2 genera and 27 species, totaling 8,097 individuals. monitoring identified lutzomyia longipalpis (44%), followed by lutzomyia lenti (18.9%), lutzomyia whitmani (13.9%), lutzomyia carmelinoi (9.1%), lutzomyia evandroi (5.1%), lutzomyia termitophila (3.3%), lutzomyia sordellii (1.9%), and 20 other species (<4%). the male:female ratio was 3.5:1. we observed high species diversity (dα = 6.65). lutzomyia longipalpis showed occurrence peaks during the rainy season; there was a temporal correlation with humidity, but not with frequency or temperature. conclusions: the presence of lutzomyia longipalpis in the urban area of barra do gar?as underscores the changing disease profile, which was previously restricted to the wild environment.

Abstract: Título en inglés: Evaluation of the changes in the some physical and chemical properties of an ultisol for effect of the Bacillus subtilis Resumen El interés en estudios de biorremediación de suelos deteriorados por sobreexplotación y uso indiscriminado de agroquímicos se debe a que alteran la microflora, el sistema de autorregulación y la sustentabilidad en el largo plazo. Biocell , 2006,
Abstract: essential hypertension is considered a multifactorial trait resulting from a combination of environmental and genetic factors. the angiotensin ii type 1 receptor mediates the vasoconstrictor and growthpromoting effects of ang ii. the a1166c polymorphism of the at1 receptor gene may be associated with cardiovascular phenotypes, such as high arterial blood pressure, aortic stiffness, and increased cardiovascular risk. we investigated the association between this a1166c polymorphism and hypertension in hypertense and normotense subjects from san luis (argentina) by mismatch pcr-rflp analysis. hypertense patients exhibited significant increases in lipid related values and body mass index. the frequency of occurrence of the c1166 allele was higher among patients with hypertension (0.19) than in the control group (0.06). no significant association was found between this polymorphism and essential hypertension in the study population, although the ac genotype prevalence was higher in patients with hypertension and positive family history of hypertension (32%) than in control subjects (12%). patients with the a1166c polymorphism exhibited higher levels of serum total cholesterol, ldl-cholesterol and bmi than in control subjects. taken together the genotype and biochemical parameters and considering the restrictive selection criteria used, the present results suggest a correlation between at1 a1166c gene polymorphism and risk of cardiovascular disease.

Revista Cubana de Estomatolog?-a , 2001,
Abstract: dental occlusion has always been the focus of attention for all branches of stomatology. on rehabilitating a patient, it is necessary to know his masticatory function and to try to reproduce the dental contacts once the prosthetic appliances have been installed. a study on occlusion was conducted that relates this aspect to the rehabilitation by fixed partial denture using fixed rigid bridges of ceramic and metal. a group of 20 patients was selected to undergo a previous occlusal study. the models were mounted in the semiadjustable articulator by intraoral registries, using the clinical techniques of transportation by means of the facial arch. the models were waxed by the codified dripping technique, the contacts were verified in the metallic substrcuture test and later in the ceramic test and during the installation. in 80 % of the cases the same points of contact existing at the beginning were obtained. mild occlusal adjustments were made in the other 20 %, due to characteristic factors of this rehabilitating work. the benefits of the semiadjustable articulator and the transfer by the facial arch in the mounting of the models to attain a correct reestablishment of the occlusal morphology were proved in order to maintain the masticatory pattern of the patient or to get as close as possible to his occlusal template.

The prothallial development of the Pteris inermis (Rosenst.) de la Sota is presented, studied by in vitro culture techniques.
