Chromosomal effects of infections in malnourished and eutrophic children of Gran La Plata
Padula,G; Seoane,A;
BAG. Journal of basic and applied genetics , 2008,
Abstract: the aim of this study was to assess the induction of structural chromosomal aberrations in peripheral blood lymphocytes of malnourished and eutrophic children with bacterial infections. thirty-six infants concurrent to the hospital interzonal de agudos y crónicos dr. alejandro korn, la plata, argentina were included in this analysis; 11 infected and malnourished (im), 7 infected and eutrophic (ie) and 18 non-infected and eutrophic (ne). children aged 1-60 months. anthropometric and clinic evaluation were performed to assess nutritional condition. we scored structural chromosome aberrations (sca) in 100 metaphases per individual. statistical analysis was performed by the epi dat 3.0 (ops-oms, 2003), through ?test de diferencias entre dos proporciones muestrales? (p<0.05). total sce frequency was five times higher in im children than that of ie ones (15,1% vs. 3,33% p<0,001) and two times greater in ie than in ne children (3,33% vs. 1,88% p<0.05). results presented here showed an increase frequency of sca not only in relation with malnutrition but also with the presence of bacterial infections. it is difficult to discern whether structural chromosome aberrations are due to malnutrition per se, bacterial or viral infections, antibiotics or all of these factors acting on malnourished tissues. in conclusion, mutagenic factors cause chromosomal changes more easily in an altered environment.
Liquid-glass transition in equilibrium
G. Parisi,B. Seoane
Physics , 2013, DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevE.89.022309
Abstract: We show in numerical simulations that a system of two coupled replicas of a binary mixture of hard spheres undergoes a phase transition in equilibrium at a density slightly smaller than the glass transition density for an unreplicated system. This result is in agreement with the theories that predict that such a transition is a precursor of the standard ideal glass transition. The critical properties are compatible with those of an Ising system. The relations of this approach to the conventional approach based on configurational entropy are briefly discussed.
Approach to the A-B Ring System of Forskolin through Biotransformation of Toluene
V. Schapiro,G. Seoane,G. García
Molecules , 2000, DOI: 10.3390/50300522
Abstract: In the present work, we will intend to show that diol I, microbially derived from toluene using Pseudomonas putida 39D, is a suitable synthon for the synthesis of the A-B ring system of forskolin. The functionalization of diol I, to be used as ring-B, and the attempts of ring-A closure, will be disclosed.
Total Synthesis of Marchantinquinone

The major standards and projects related to the description of works of art are presented. The first part of the article presents standards for description, cataloguing and validation of data (controlled vocabularies); the second part introduces five Internet-based projects (Object ID, MOAC, AMICO, Joconde and ACH) that employ some of these standards. The article concludes by stressing the opportunities presented by the use of information technologies in describing works of art while, at the same time, noting the lack of consolidation of the standards.
Regional GRACE-based estimates of water mass variations over Australia: validation and interpretation
L. Seoane,G. Ramillien,F. Frappart,M. Leblanc
Hydrology and Earth System Sciences Discussions , 2013, DOI: 10.5194/hessd-10-5355-2013
Abstract: Time series of regional 2°-by-2° GRACE solutions have been computed from 2003 to 2011 with a 10 day resolution by using an energy integral method over Australia [112° E 156° E; 44° S 10° S]. This approach uses the dynamical orbit analysis of GRACE Level 1 measurements, and specially accurate along-track K Band Range Rate (KBRR) residuals (1 μm s 1 level of error) to estimate the total water mass over continental regions. The advantages of regional solutions are a significant reduction of GRACE aliasing errors (i.e. north–south stripes) providing a more accurate estimation of water mass balance for hydrological applications. In this paper, the validation of these regional solutions over Australia is presented as well as their ability to describe water mass change as a reponse of climate forcings such as El Ni o. Principal component analysis of GRACE-derived total water storage maps show spatial and temporal patterns that are consistent with independent datasets (e.g. rainfall, climate index and in-situ observations). Regional TWS show higher spatial correlations with in-situ water table measurements over Murray–Darling drainage basin (80–90%), and they offer a better localization of hydrological structures than classical GRACE global solutions (i.e. Level 2 GRGS products and 400 km ICA solutions as a linear combination of GFZ, CSR and JPL GRACE solutions).
H?lder's inequality: some recent and unexpected applications
N. Albuquerque,G. Araujo,D. Pellegrino,J. Seoane-Sepulveda
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: H\"{o}lder's inequality, since its appearance in 1888, has played a fundamental role in Mathematical Analysis and it is, without any doubt, one of the milestones in Mathematics. It may seem strange that, nowadays, it keeps resurfacing and bringing new insights to the mathematical community. In this expository article we show how a variant of H\"{o}lder's inequality (although well-known in PDEs) was essentially overlooked in Functional Analysis and has had a crucial (and in some sense unexpected) influence in very recent and major breakthroughs in Mathematics. Some of these recent advances appeared in 2012-2014 and include the theory of Dirichlet series, the famous Bohr radius problem, certain classical inequalities (such as Bohnenblust--Hille or Hardy--Littlewood), or even Mathematical Physics.
Movimientos sociales y recursos naturales en América Latina: resistencias al neoliberalismo, configuración de alternativas
Seoane, José;
Sociedade e Estado , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69922006000100006
Abstract: the imposition of the neoliberal model in latin america and the caribbean as well as the recent return to economic growth in the region are mainly due to the massive exploitation of natural resources geared to exports and which, to a large extent, are controlled by transnational capital. as a result, a growing number of conflicts, social movements and sociopolitical consensus building have emerged and developed in the continent on local, national and regional levels. these efforts are part of a new cycle of social protest that arose in the second half of the 1990s. the main features that represent the current makeup of the collective organization and action of today's social movements can be glimpsed in those experiences. in this sense, the defense of natural resources as a common good has been expressed in the social reaction against the devastation of the environment, the destruction of habitats and the forced displacement of peoples. it has also been raised in questions regarding the impact and the model of private appropriation of these resources and the benefits derived from exploiting them. in the field of social movements, the articulation of these processes has meant linking the cycle of resistance to the construction of alternatives and the positing of liberating horizons.
