Abstract: The study of the antineutrinos emitted by the radioactive decays in the Earth interior is the only way to investigate how much of the terrestrial heat is produced by these decays and which is their contribution in the various Earth components. The existence of the geo-neutrinos has recently been demonstrated by Borexino and confirmed by Kamland. Kamland had found some hints already in 2005 and 2008 Nevertheless the statistics is not yet enough to discriminate among the various geological models.
Ziconotide in the treatment of cancer patients with severe pain: a retrospective study

Abstract: Cancer patients with complex and severe pain were treated with intrathecal continuous infusion of ziconotide according to a protocol implemented by the “SOS of Pain Therapy of Casale Monferrato (ASL - AL) S. Spirito Hospital”. Analgesic efficacy of intrathecal ziconotide treatments was compared with efficacy of treatments with intrathecal morphine and adjuvants using several indicators and choosing as primary outcome the reduction of NRSPI (Numeric Rating Scale Pain Intensity).The results showed that after three weeks treatment the NRSPI reduction was about 30% higher in the ziconotide group than in the morphine group; the percentage of days the patients lived with such reduction was 78 percent in the ziconotide group and 40 percent in the morphine group.
Study of solar and other unknown anti-neutrino fluxes with Borexino at LNGS

Abstract: We report on the search for anti-neutrinos of yet unknown origin with the Borexino detector at the Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso. In particular, a hypothetical anti-neutrino flux from the Sun is investigated. Anti-neutrinos are detected through the neutron inverse $\beta$ decay reaction in a large liquid organic scintillator target. We set a new upper limit for a hypothetical solar $\bar{\nu}_e$ flux of 760 ${\rm cm}^{-2}{\rm s}^{-1}$, obtained assuming an undistorted solar $^8$B energy spectrum. This corresponds to a limit on the transition probability of solar neutrinos to anti-neutrinos of $1.3\times10^{-4}$ (90\% C.L.) for $E_{\bar{\nu}}>1.8$ MeV, covering the entire $^{8}$B spectrum. Best differential limits on anti-neutrino fluxes from unknown sources are also obtained between the detection energy threshold of 1.8 MeV and 17.8 MeV with more than 2 years of data.

Abstract: this report presents the late follow-up of a case of takotsubo cardiomyopathy with good clinical outcome and improved left ventricular global systolic function. however, there was persistence of significant regional longitudinal systolic dysfunction evaluated using a new echocardiographic technique (speckle tracking), with corresponding measures of strain (s) and strain rate (sr). we emphasize the importance of this new method to monitoring this cardiomyopathy, since it identifies patients with persistent systolic dysfunction who will possibly benefit from maintenance of clinical therapy
Neutrino Oscillations

Abstract: In the last decades, a very important breakthrough has been brought about in the elementary particle physics by the discovery of the phenomenon of the neutrino oscillations, which has shown neutrino properties beyond the Standard Model. But a full understanding of the various aspects of the neutrino oscillations is far to be achieved. In this paper the theoretical background of the neutrino oscillation phenomenon is described, referring in particular to the paradigmatic models. Then the various techniques and detectors which studied neutrinos from different sources are discussed, starting from the pioneering ones up to the detectors still in operation and to those in preparation. The physics results are finally presented adopting the same research path which has been crossed by this long saga. The problems not yet fixed in this field are discussed, together with the perspectives of their solutions in the near future. 1. Introduction Neutrino studies brought us to some of the most relevant breakthroughs in particle physics of last decades. In spite of that, the neutrino properties are still far to be completely understood. The discovery of the oscillation phenomenon produced quite a revolution in the Standard Model of elementary particles, especially through the direct evidence of a nonzero neutrino mass. The first idea of neutrino oscillations was considered by Pontecorvo in 1957 [1–3], before any experimental indication of this phenomenon. After several-decades-lasting saga of experimental and theoretical research, many questions are still open around the interpretation of this phenomenon and on the correlated aspects, on the oscillation parameters, on the neutrino masses, on the mass hierarchy, on CP violation in the leptonic sector, and on a possible existence of a fourth, sterile neutrino. The generally accepted MSW model [4–6] to interpret solar neutrino oscillations is presently validated for the oscillation in vacuum and in matter, but not yet in the vacuum-matter transition region. The shape of this transition could be influenced in a relevant way, as suggested by various theories going beyond the Standard Model as, for example, the nonstandard neutrino interactions and a possible existence of a very light sterile neutrino. For this reason, the transition region deserves further and refined experimental studies. Checks on the neutrino oscillations are under way through several experiments in data-taking phase, while few others are in preparation or even construction. Spin Entanglement in supramolecular structures

Abstract: Molecular spin clusters are mesoscopic systems whose structural and physical features can be tailored at the synthetic level. Besides, their quantum behavior is directly accessible in laboratory and their magnetic properties can be rationalized in terms of microscopic spin models. Thus they represent an ideal playground within solid state systems to test concepts in quantum mechanics. One intriguing challenge is to control entanglement between molecular spins. Here we show how this goal can be pursued by discussing specific examples and referring to recent achievements.
