Abstract: Although logistics is known to play an important role in many sectors, its place in educational systems has not been examinedin detail yet. It is true that education and learning activities require large scale and effective organizations, and logistics play animportant role in this organization. As for distance education programs, such a logistic support is crucial for the sustainability ofthe system due to the lack of face to face education and interaction. When the system is evaluated in terms of logistics, multiple choice tests administered across the country are known to requirea well-designed and effective logistic support. The exams in the system are administered three times a year in four sessions in 81cities, 7213 buildings, 118.610 classrooms by 315.325 people officially assigned for this organization. As for the distribution of exam documents across the country, 29 distribution routes are determined, twenty seven of whichuse land transportation and the other two a combination of land and air transportation. Some of the cities located on these routesare determined as “transfer centers”. The exams for the students living in Western Europe are administered through thecollaboration with educational consultancies and attachés located in six countries and twelve centers. The course books are a significant component of the system and they are distributed via a well-organized system. In 2009-2010 academic year, a total of 5.5 million copies of 382 different course books were published. To ensure an effective distributionof these course books, a distribution plan are prepared in which outsourcing is used for shipping, and the shipping companyfollow the distribution route according to a predetermined time schedule. The attitudes of students towards distribution services for exam documents and course books are one of the best criteria toassess the success of the system. Considering this situation, the researcher prepared a survey and administered it to 1359 studentsand the data obtained were analyzed statistically. The survey is composed of two parts. The first part involves questions to obtain demographic data from the subjects and thesecond part the items to determine logistic service satisfaction level of the subjects.Through the analyses of the findings from the survey, the relationship between demographic variables and exam documentsand the points showing students’ attitudes towards course books distribution services were searched. The results of the survey show that the students enrolled in open and distance education system are generally satisfied withlo

Abstract: In many countries where international trade is dense, many sectors were negatively affected by the crisis. One of the sectorswhich were affected by the crisis was the logistics sector. The surplus capacity which was caused by the trading volume shrinkingas a result of the global crisis and by decreased orders took effect in the world and therefore in our country with its global logisticsdimension.Since logistics activities have a significant share in operating costs, even small cost differences occurred in the activities suchas transportation, storing, stock management, packaging, etc. directly affect competitive power. In this context, the logistics sector is a sector which is directly affected by all kinds of fluctuations in the economy of acountry. The financial crisis reduces the demand for logistics services and the sector becomes narrow. In the present study, it isaimed to reveal whether the sector which is quite new for our country is capable of dealing with the decreased trading volume ornot using SWOT analysis. The stakeholders in the present study are logistics sector, transportation sector, the Turkish State Railways, the TurkishAirlines, the Turkey Maritime Organization, storage firms, academicians, students in the departments of logistics, the employeesof Directorate General of Customs Control.248 of the 600 questionnaire forms sent to the abovementioned stakeholders were filled and the results were based on thefindings obtained. The strengths and weaknesses, opportunities and the threats related to the logistics sector and competitionanalysis under the effect of the global crisis have been unrevealed based on the results of the survey data administered to thestakeholders. The results obtained are as follows;Strengths Increased demand of qualified human resources of firms, Strong capital structures of firms, Rich alternatives of firms over selecting transporting points, Big size of fleet in land transportation, Possible points to locate a logistics base and harbours, Ability to establish supply chain,, Low cost of human resources, Employment of human resources that have experience in logistics training, Experience in crisis management.Weaknesses Lack of qualified personnel and lack of experience in firms, Lack of use of technology in firms, Lack of use of information technologies, Lack of information technologies in use, Under use of environmentally friendly transportation systems, Over use of land transport, Lack of information of and interest in legal regulations, Difficulty in external funding, Very less interest in railwa

History Studies : International Journal of History , 2010,
Abstract: Bitlis is one of the historical cities in Anatolia. In parallel to the process the city experienced in the past, Bitlis has a rich cultural potential. The fact that original historical fabric of the city is used from the time is it was established, causes the changing lifestyle outgrow within this fabric and points to some problems in transfer of the exiting fabric to the future by protecting the past fabric. Despite the problems experienced, the value of the existing cultural legacy of the city should be immediately understood. There are many multifaceted negative factors that deteriorate and destroy the fabric of the city. It should be believed that Bitlis can reach the standards of modern life without damaging the fabric of the city. Negative factors should be identified and correctly analyzed, the properties that survived until today should be correctly transferred to the future.

Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: This study was carried out to determine the effect of Alphagen Standart Prill (ASP) which was used in pellet form by mixing with litter in nest box on microorganism counts of egg shell surface and hatching results. In the experiment, hatching eggs of broiler parent stocks Cobb-500 from 40-43 week old were used. The total bacteria, coliform bacteria and E.Coli counts were significantly different between experimental groups ( 0 (control), 5 g, and 8 ASP/nest box) (P<0.01). The hatchability of fertile eggs was not different in treatment groups (90.39 %, 90.12 % , 91.32 %, respectively by groups, P>0.05). The hatchability of total eggs was 88.54 % in 8 g ASP/nest box treatment which was higher than those of control ( % 87.80) and 5 g ASP/nest box groups (% 86.79) without statistical significance (P>0.05). According to the results, embryonic mortality at early (0-7. day), middle (8-18. day) and late (19-21. day) period of incubation was not changed by treatments (P>0.05). However, the rate of early, middle and late mortalities was 3.62, 3.50 and 3.57 % for 5 g ASP treatment, 0.02, 0.10 and 0.9 % for 8 g ASP treatment and 2.63, 2.27 and 3.01 % in control, respectively.
THE NEPHROTOXICITY RISK IN RATS SUBJECTED TO HEAVY MUSCLE ACTIVITY

Journal of Sports Science and Medicine , 2009,
Abstract: When the body is exposed to insults, the kidneys exhibit adaptive changes termed renal cytoresistance, characterized by cholesterol accumulation in the membranes of the tubule cells. However, heavy muscle activity has not yet been accepted as one of the stressors that could lead to cytoresistance. In order to study the renal functional characteristics of animals exposed to heavy muscle activity, rats were subjected to exhaustive treadmill exercise for 5 days and their data was compared to those of sedentary controls. It was found that in exercised rats, blood lactate, muscle citrate synthase and proximal tubule peroxynitrite levels were all elevated, suggesting the presence of oxidative stress in the proximal tubule segments. However, mean arterial pressure, renal blood flow, glomerular filtration rate, fractional excretion of sodium and potassium, and organic anion excretion remained normal. Despite unchanged blood cholesterol levels, cholesterol loading in the proximal tubule segments, especially the free form, and decreased lactate dehydrogenase release from cytoresistant proximal tubule segments indicated the development of renal cytoresistance. However, this resistance did not seem to have protected the kidneys as expected because organic anion accumulation associated with glycosuria and proteinuria, in addition to the elevated urinary cholesterol levels, all imply the presence of an impaired glomerular permeability and reabsorption in the proximal tubule cells. Therefore, we suggest that in response to heavy muscle activity the tubular secretion may remain intact, although cytoresistance in the proximal tubule cells may affect the tubular reabsorptive functions and basolateral uptake of substances. Thus, this differential sensitivity in the cytoresistance should be taken into account during functional evaluation of the kidneys

Abstract: We examined the lipid values of obese and normal-weight children, to look if there is an association between Body Mass Index (BMI) and lipid profiles. Our study group included 100 volunteers (50 children with normal BMI and 50 with high BMI) who were admitted to Kagithane State Hospital Pediatrics Clinic for various reasons between July 2010 and May 2011. The inclusion criteria were as follows: age between 2 and 14 years, no chronic disease and no developmental defects. The high BMI group had significantly higher Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL) levels in comparison to the normal BMI group (p< 0.05). We also found that the high BMI group had higher cholesterol levels close to upper limit than the normal BMI group. We found high triglyceride levels not only in the high BMI group but also in the normal BMI group with a rate of 26% and 24% respectively. The difference of 2% was not significant. We advise that identification and treatment of elevated LDL cholesterol levels is of tremendous significance for obese children or adolescents for future cardiovascular disease risk in adulthood. In the light of these findings, we must not overlook cardiovascular risk in the normal BMI group children. We believe that necessary precautions must be taken for preventing overweight and dyslipidemia in early childhood. Accordingly, it is of paramount importance not only to reduce obesity in children and adolescents but also to monitor dyslipidemia in normal BMI children to avoid the subsequent risk for cardiovascular disease.
