Abstract: Wir untersuchten retrospektiv die Effekte verschiedener Psychopharmaka(-gruppen) auf selbstsch digendes Verhalten in seinen unterschiedlichen Auspr gungsformen bei der Behandlung der emotional instabilen Pers nlichkeitsst rung. Eingeschlossen wurden 64 weibliche und 13 m nnliche Patienten mit einem Durchschnittsalter von 25,88 Jahren, die auf einer offen geführten Psychotherapiestation mit einem multimodalen verhaltens-therapeutisch orientierten Psychotherapieprogramm (dialektisch-behaviourale Therapie nach M. Linehan) behandelt wurden. Die Patienten protokollierten w chentlich Gedanken an bzw. die Ausführung von selbstsch digendem Verhalten anhand einer von uns entwickelten Liste mit 13 Items. Daraus wurde jeweils ein Summenscore gebildet und zum Zeitpunkt T0 (vor Psychopharmakotherapie und T1 (durchschnittlich 24 Tage sp ter) miteinander verglichen. Zu einer Reduktion selbstsch digenden Verhaltens kam es dabei vor allem bei Behandlung mit einem SSRI als Monotherapie oder in Kombination mit Lithium, verglichen mit Carbamazepin, Valproat, Lithium als Monotherapie, einem Neuroleptikum, einer Kombination aus SSRI und Neuroleptikum oder einer Kontrollgruppe ohne Psychopharmakotherapie.

Abstract: It is proven that Inorganic Membrane Bio-Reactor(IMBR)applied to domestic wastewater treatment is technically feasible and reliable during several months. In this study,under conditions of membrane flux between 75 and 150L/(m2·h),hydraulic retention time 5 hours,sludge retention time 5, 15, 30 days and velocity inside the membrane channel 4 m/s, the stable sludge concentrations(MLSS)in the bioreactor reach 3.1, 10.7and 17.3g/L after 10, 16 and 14 days respectively. Average removal rate of COD,NH3-N, and turbidity of the system are higher than 96%,95%and 98%,SS and E.coli.,100%. The effluent quality is always better than the quality standard for reuse issued by the Ministry of Construction in China. Moreover,fouling mechanisms of IMBR are also discussed in this paper. The initial permeability of inorganic membrane can be easily recovered over 90% after physical and chemical cleaning operations.
Colorectal cancer screening in Europe

Abstract: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most frequent malignant disease in Europe. Every year, 412 000 people are diagnosed with this condition, and 207 000 patients die of it. In 2003, recommendations for screening programs were issued by the Council of the European Union (EU), and these currently serve as the basis for the preparation of European guidelines for CRC screening. The manner in which CRC screening is carried out varies significantly from country to country within the EU, both in terms of organization and the screening test chosen. A screening program of one sort or another has been implemented in 19 of 27 EU countries. The most frequently applied method is testing stool for occult bleeding (fecal occult blood test, FOBT). In recent years, a screening colonoscopy has been introduced, either as the only method (Poland) or the method of choice (Germany, Czech Republic).
Wolbachia Infections Mimic Cryptic Speciation in Two Parasitic Butterfly Species, Phengaris teleius and P. nausithous (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae)

Abstract: Deep mitochondrial divergence within species may result from cryptic speciation, from phylogeographic isolation or from endosymbiotic bacteria like Wolbachia that manipulate host reproduction. Phengaris butterflies are social parasites that spend most of their life in close relationship with ants. Previously, cryptic speciation has been hypothesised for two Phengaris species based on divergent mtDNA sequences. Since Phengaris species are highly endangered, the existence of cryptic species would have drastic consequences for conservation and management. We tested for cryptic speciation and alternative scenarios in P. teleius and P. nausithous based on a comprehensive sample across their Palaearctic ranges using COI gene sequences, nuclear microsatellites and tests for Wolbachia. In both species a deep mitochondrial split occurring 0.65–1.97 myrs ago was observed that did not correspond with microsatellite data but was concordant with Wolbachia infection. Haplotypes previously attributed to cryptic species were part of the Wolbachia-infected clades. In both species remaining phylogeographic structure was largely consistent between mitochondrial and nuclear genomes. In P. teleius several mitochondrial and nuclear groups were observed in East Asia while a single haplogroup and nuclear cluster prevailed across continental Eurasia. Neutrality tests suggested rapid demographic expansion into that area. In contrast, P. nausithous had several mitochondrial and nuclear groups in Europe, suggesting a complex phylogeographic history in the western part of the species range. We conclude that deep intraspecific divergences found in DNA barcode studies do not necessarily need to represent cryptic speciation but instead can be due to both infection by Wolbachia and phylogeographic structure.
Chikungunya Virus Neutralization Antigens and Direct Cell-to-Cell Transmission Are Revealed by Human Antibody-Escape Mutants

Abstract: Chikungunya virus (CHIKV) is an alphavirus responsible for numerous epidemics throughout Africa and Asia, causing infectious arthritis and reportedly linked with fatal infections in newborns and elderly. Previous studies in animal models indicate that humoral immunity can protect against CHIKV infection, but despite the potential efficacy of B-cell-driven intervention strategies, there are no virus-specific vaccines or therapies currently available. In addition, CHIKV has been reported to elicit long-lasting virus-specific IgM in humans, and to establish long-term persistence in non-human primates, suggesting that the virus might evade immune defenses to establish chronic infections in man. However, the mechanisms of immune evasion potentially employed by CHIKV remain uncharacterized. We previously described two human monoclonal antibodies that potently neutralize CHIKV infection. In the current report, we have characterized CHIKV mutants that escape antibody-dependent neutralization to identify the CHIKV E2 domain B and fusion loop “groove” as the primary determinants of CHIKV interaction with these antibodies. Furthermore, for the first time, we have also demonstrated direct CHIKV cell-to-cell transmission, as a mechanism that involves the E2 domain A and that is associated with viral resistance to antibody-dependent neutralization. Identification of CHIKV sub-domains that are associated with human protective immunity, will pave the way for the development of CHIKV-specific sub-domain vaccination strategies. Moreover, the clear demonstration of CHIKV cell-to-cell transmission and its possible role in the establishment of CHIKV persistence, will also inform the development of future anti-viral interventions. These data shed new light on CHIKV-host interactions that will help to combat human CHIKV infection and inform future studies of CHIKV pathogenesis.
