Física moderna e contemporanea na forma??o de licenciandos em física: necessidades, conflitos e perspectivas
Rezende Junior, Mikael Frank;Cruz, Frederico Firmo de Souza;
Ciência & Educa??o (Bauru) , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1516-73132009000200005
Abstract: this paper aims to bring to the debate the views and perspectives of physics undergraduates concerning the introduction of topics and themes of modern and contemporary physics in high school. we pay special attention to the conflict between their initial preparation and the reality of school, either as trainees or teachers. the data was obtained through semi-structured interviews conducted in three public universities, two in santa catarina state and one in minas gerais state, between the years 2002 and 2007. the conclusions of this work suggest that the debate about the insertion of modern and contemporary physics in high school should be expanded mainly into the initial preparation of physics teacher with respect to transfer of content and methodologies from higher education to basic school.
Percep??o de risco: maneiras de pensar e agir no manejo de agrotóxicos

Abstract: the object of this study was to identify context elements that have an influence on pesticide use, related perceptions, and actions in flower production. the study was carried out in barbacena, minas gerais state. the method used was based on an anthropological fast diagnosis approach inspired on the signs, meanings and actions model and on the analysis of semi-structured interviews with 20 workers from four different flower-growing fields. the field data analysis indicates that these workers face two realities: the need for pesticides and suffering generated by pesticide management. furthermore, there is clearly no direct relation between risk awareness and the effective hazards associated with pesticides. this gap is filled by beliefs which are at the basis of their actions. these beliefs reinterpret information and risk, influence behavior, and make it possible for these workers to move between these two paradoxical realities and pesticide. attributing new meanings to pesticide management risks, however, may imply in positively valuing potentially harmful behaviors.
Localizing common fixed points of commuting diffeomorphisms of the plane
S. Firmo
Mathematics , 2010,
Abstract: We prove that if $G\subset\text{Diff}^{1}(\mathbb{R}^2)$ is an Abelian subgroup generated by a family of commuting diffeomorphisms of the plane, all of which are $C^{1}$-close to the identity in the strong $C^{1}$-topology, and if there exist a point $p\in\mathbb{R}^2$ whose orbit is bounded under the action of $G$, then the elements of $G$ have a common fixed point in the convex hull of $\bar{\mathcal{O}_{p}(G)}$. Here, $\bar{\mathcal{O}_{p}(G)}$ denotes the topological closure of the orbit of $p$ by $G$.
A Note on Commuting Diffeomorphisms on Surfaces
S. Firmo
Mathematics , 2004, DOI: 10.1088/0951-7715/18/4/005
Abstract: Let S be a closed surface with nonzero Euler characteristic. We prove the existence of an open neighborhood V of the identity map of S in the C^1-topology with the following property: if G is an abelian subgroup of Diff^1(S) generated by any family of elements in V then the elements of G have common fixed points. This result generalizes a similar result due to Bonatti and announced in his paper "Diffeomorphismes commutants des surfaces et stabilite des fibrations en tores".
A política de perto: recortes etnográficos de campanhas eleitorais
Barreira, Irlys Alencar Firmo;
Novos Estudos - CEBRAP , 2006, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-33002006000100011
Abstract: taking ethnographical notes and the concept of ritual as a guideline, this article discusses electoral acts in northeastern capitals in brazil. the main argument sustains that acts of campaign bring near what is understood as politics and the electors, making possible the presentation of opponents and redefining social pacts that validate the principles of political representation.
Política, memória e espa?o público: a via dos sentimentos
Barreira, Irlys Alencar Firmo;
Revista Brasileira de Ciências Sociais , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-69092001000200005
Abstract: the article analyses different mobilization and symbolic strategies against violence and in favor of justice led by a family victim of the murder of the father, at that time the mayor of a city called acaraú, in the countryside of ceará state. the campaign against the parliamentary immunity of the accused of the crime, based on a "combat against oblivion", is motivated by radical feelings that produce rituals with the women as the main characters and spokespersons of a discursive explosion. based on newspapers, interviews with the families and inhabitants of aracaú city and judicial documents, the author aims to investigate the different circuits of this memory mobilized by feelings that mediate public and private spheres. the article analyses the way politics take place, observing the reconversion of feelings that consolidate family divisions, partisan groups, points of view, showing collective sensibilities and moral principles. in sum, the discussed ideas converge on the comprehension of feelings and values that create distinctive rituals and expressive ways: mourning, slogans, emotions and denouncing speech.
Os guias turísticos em Berlim
Barreira, Irlys Alencar Firmo;
Tempo Social , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-20702005000100013
Abstract: this paper deals with the narratives about berlin as can be found in leaflets, history books and travel guides, at different historical moments: the post-war period, the division of the state (east-west) and more recently, at the time of reunification, when it became worthy of being instituted as a multicultural capital. the discussion highlights the way different spaces, monuments and buildings are recalled and embedded in symbolic processes, that reveal a dispute among memories and that point to constant redefinitions of the relation between past and present. from this point of view, it is possible to realize that the observation methods of the city narratives may be expanded and applied to other urban experiences.

Vincent Colin,Sebastiao Firmo
Mathematics , 2008, DOI: 10.2140/agt.2011.11.2627
Abstract: We introduce a notion of positive pair of contact structures on a 3-manifold which generalizes a previous definition of Eliashberg-Thurston and Mitsumatsu. Such a pair gives rise to a locally integrable plane field $\lambda$. We prove that if $\lambda$ is uniquely integrable and if both structures of the pair are tight, then the integral foliation of $\lambda$ doesn't contain any Reeb component whose core curve is homologous to zero. Moreover, the ambient manifold carries a Reebless foliation. We also show a stability theorem "\`a la Reeb" for positive pairs of tight contact structures.
