Burning mouth syndrome (BMS) is a chronic condition characterized by burning sensation on a clinic normal oral mucosa. BMS is not a rare condition, however, mechanisms involved in their development remains poorly understood. The aim of this paper was to carry out a review of literature about this syndrome, highlighting the main etiological factors as an approach to the management of this condition.

This paper aims to provide an overview of the Brazilian State language-spread policy in countries where Spanish is an official language. After analyzing the institutional functioning of the Division of Portuguese Language Promotion (DPLP), subordinated to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, we gather some data concerning the history and distribution of the Brazilian Cultural Centers, Bilateral Cultural Institutes and lectureships over the so-called "Hispanic world". We then show that the initiatives to promote Portuguese in Latin America have strengthened in the wake of recent changes in Brazilian foreign policy. In addition to this, we argue that, as an instrument of language policy, the Certificate of Proficiency in Portuguese as a Foreign Language (Celpe-Bras) has particular potential in this region. To conclude, we highlight essential points for the planning of the policy for promoting Portuguese abroad.

Abstract: The present paper analyses the intensity and direction of air flows referring to the main BeloHorizonte′s airports, in order to identify their influence areas, such as the economic importancethat these airports represent to the State′s development process. The Alternative Model of the Urban Trip Generation is used as a support, helping the comprehension of the changingsexperimented by the Minas Gerais′ air sector, according to the demand of the air transportation ofpassengers and cargo, focusing at the main causes and consequences of the regular commercialflights′ recent transfer from Belo Horizonte Airport (Pampulha) to Tancredo Neves InternationalAirport (Confins). The comparative data and analyses referring to the air flows of the main BeloHorizonte′s airports, according to the origins and destinations, are processed and mapped, inorder to facilitate the identification of the influence areas of these airports. The results show thatthe Belo Horizonte′s airports have a strong relationship to the airports of the cities S o Paulo andRio de Janeiro, showing the dependence of the Belo Horizonte air sector with these locations.
A validation metrics based model calibration applied on stranded cables
Castello, Daniel Alves;Matt, Carlos Frederico Trotta;
Journal of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S1678-58782011000400005
Abstract: the present work is aimed at building a computational model for a typical stranded cable based on the basic principles of verification and validation. the model calibration and model tracking are guided based on a pool of validation metrics suitable for data which are commonly used in structural dynamics. the estimator used for the associated inverse problem is the maximum a posteriori estimator and the parameter estimation process is performed sequentially over experiments. experimental tests have been performed at cepel's (electric power research center) laboratory span with the overhead conductor grosbeak in order to provide the measured data. the predictive capacity of the computational model is assessed by means of frequency-and time-domain validations through frfs, band limited white-noise and sine sweep excitations. we also present novel and reliable estimates for the bending stiffness and damping parameters of a widely used transmission line conductor.

Abstract: the upper rio das velhas region is part of the quadrilátero ferrífero geologic province, central minas gerais state (brazil), and is characterized by the conflicting use of the land, with intense mining development, increasing urban occupation and strong real estate expansion. the varied erosive processes, the silting of streams and general degradation are some of the problems that impact the environment. this study is the result of the analysis of morphometric characteristics of the drainage net and the relief of the córrego carioca, córrego do ba??o and ribeir?o carioca basins; these streams are affluents of the itabirito river, tributary of the rio das velhas. the analysis aimed at the collection of information useful for the identification of the natural land which is vulnerable to human interventions, the understanding of erosive processes and the definition of the territorial zoning. this paper complements the analyses done in others studies which aims at the understanding of the superficial dynamics in the studied area. the córrego do ba??o and ribeir?o carioca basins yielded morphometric indices that characterize them as the most vulnerable to human interventions and erosive processes. when it comes to real estate, the ribeir?o carioca basin is the least restrictive to occupation. as it is characterized by a smooth relief, the development of small farms is recommended. we conclude that morphometric analyses contribute to understand the vulnerability of terrains to erosion, thus enabling a better territorial ordering of hydrographic basins.

Health (Health) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/health.2013.512268
Abstract:

Introduction: There are few population-based studies conducted in Brazil outside the major urban centers, the prevalence of overweight, obesity and associated factors in the up country cities remains not noticed. Particularly, the characteristics of this phenomenon are unknown in the mountain regions of Santa Catarina (state of the southern region), which concentrate the lowest economic and social development of the state, where culture, dietary habits and climate are quite peculiar. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of nutritional status and its association with self-reported diseases in adults of Lages, Santa Catarina. Methods: A cross sectional study including adults was conducted (n = 2022). Demographic information was collected as well as anthropometric measurements, through a number of interviews and physical examinations. The outcome of the study was the body mass index (BMI). The descriptive statistic was performed, as well as simple associations between BMI and the independent variables by sex. Correlations between BMI, abdominal circumference and self-reported diseases for men and women were tested separately. Results: The prevalence of normal weight, overweight and obesity among men was 41%, 39% and 19% respectively. Among women, the prevalence rates were 43%, 31% and 26%. It was observed that the obesity increase is correlated with low levels of education. The greater the BMI the more negative was the self-assessment of health. It was

found a positive correlation between BMI and abdominal circumference, with diabetes mellitus and high blood pressure levels. Conclusions: There was a high prevalence of overweight and obesity in Lages, SC. Strategies involving the various sectors of the community should be considered to reverse this process.

Educadores de infancia promotores de saúde e resiliência: Um estudo exploratório com crian?as em situa??o de risco

Abstract: it is estimated that 11% of portuguese children under 6 years old exhibit special educational needs and 37% of abused and/or abandoned children, under the tutelar proceeding in 1996, were also under six years old. the existence of children considered at risk and vulnerable, when it comes to their psychosocial health and quality of life, implies a continued questioning of the factors that lead to those situations, as well as a challenge to those who work with these children, and must find ways to match educational practices to the children?s needs. intervention, with children at risk, in the area of resilience and health promotion has been one of the most effective programs in preventing risk behavior in adolescence. this article assumes the multidimensionality of the resilience and health promotion concepts, and presents an empirical investigation aiming to the identification and specification of the importance of those dimensions in the development of educational practices among preschool teachers. we will refer to a transversal and exploratory study using a questionnaire, involving 274 subjects, 164 working in alentejo and 110 in algarve. through multiple correspondence analyses, followed by a hierarchical classification technique, it was possible to identify two types/classes of resilience and health promoting educators: more and less promoting. the results suggest that, in order to consider a teacher as belonging to the more promoting type, it is not obligatory that there are children at risk integrated in his/her class. also, there seems to be no relation between the subject of health promoting during the teachers education and a more resilience and health promotion oriented practice. however, the following variables are considered important to an educational practice aiming to the health and resilience promotion: working in the public schools; working in a network of health-promoting schools (nhps); having health education integrated in the curriculum; and the
