Abstract: objective: to determine how different risk factors influence on the more frequent adverse clinical events during the immediate postoperative period of patients operated on myocardial revascularization surgery with extracorporeal circulation. methods: a prospective, longitudinal and observational study was conducted in 60 patients from the institute of cardiology and cardiovascular surgery for 2008-2009. results: there was predominance of dyslipemia patients (90 %) and hypertensive patients (86.7 %). patients with manifestation of adverse clinical events showed a close association with dyslipemia (p< 0.01), a significant decrease of ejection fraction of left ventricle (p< 0.05), a significant increase of extracorporeal circulation times (p < 0.01) and ischemic arrest (p< 0.05). conclusions: the basal dyslipemia, the depressed left ventricle ejection and the length of surgical procedure, were the more significant risk factors for development of adverse clinical events during the immediate postoperative period of revascularization patients.

Journal of the Chilean Chemical Society , 2012, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-97072012000100015
Abstract: a theoretical study of the adsorption of molecular oxygen on small bimetallic kmcun (m, n ≤ 4 and m, n=1,12) clusters was carried out using density functional methods, and compared with the adsorption of o2 on bimetallic limcun (m, n ≤ 4) clusters. the study of the o2-kmcun system is important to understand the promotion effects of the alkali atoms on the copper surface participating in the catalytic processes. adsorption energies ranging from 5.7 to 48.6 kcal/mol were found, which represented values slightly smaller than those calculated for the adsorption of o2 on limcun clusters in a previous study. however, the global reactivity towards o2 was higher in kmcun than in limcun clusters.

Revista chilena de enfermedades respiratorias , 2011, DOI: 10.4067/S0717-73482011000200007
Abstract: patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (copd) often have severe shortness of breath that prevents them from performing their everyday activities. pulmonary rehabilitation programs improve capacity exercise, decrease breathlessness and enhance quality of life. in addition, the use of oxygen has been demonstrated to reduce ventilatory demand and to induce improvements in metabolism, muscle function, and cardiovascular function. the combination of exercise training and supplemental oxygen may provide additional benefit. this chapter therefore evaluated the scientific evidence regarding the beneficial effect of supplemental oxygen in the pulmonary rehabilitation of patients with copd. supplemental oxygen should be recommended in all copd patients with resting hypoxemia during rehabilitative exercise training (quality evidence a, strong recommendation). also, in copd patients without resting hypoxemia was recommended to use supplemental oxygen during respiratory rehabilitation, because it allows a longer time of exercise and reduces dyspnea (quality evidence b, weak recommendation).

Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) often have severe shortness of breath that prevents them from performing their everyday activities.

Abstract: A theoretical study of the adsorption of molecular oxygen on small bimetallic KmCu n (m, n ≤ 4 and m, n=1,12) clusters was carried out using density functional methods, and compared with the adsorption of O2 on bimetallic Li mCu n (m, n ≤ 4) clusters. The study of the O2-KmCu n system is important to understand the promotion effects of the alkali atoms on the copper surface participating in the catalytic processes. Adsorption energies ranging from 5.7 to 48.6 kcal/mol were found, which represented values slightly smaller than those calculated for the adsorption of O2 on Li mCu n clusters in a previous study. However, the global reactivity towards O2 was higher in KmCu n than in Li mCu n clusters.
