Abstract: mucinous adenocarcinoma of the lung with signet-ring cell pattern is an infrequent entity of easy diagnosis. we report the case of a 55 year-old patient with preexisting ischemic heart disease and recent diagnosis of pulmonary adenocarcinoma with signet-ring cell pattern. it is necessary discard a primary extrapulmonar location (digestive tract). immunohistochemistry is a useful tool in the differential diagnosis.

Abstract: El adenocarcinoma mucinoso de pulmón con patrón de células en anillo de sello es una entidad infrecuente de diagnóstico fácil. Presentamos el caso de un paciente de 55 a os con antecedente de cardiopatía isquémica y diagnóstico actual de adenocarcinoma primario pulmonar con patrón de células en anillo de sello. Es necesario descartar un origen primario extrapulmonar, principalmente de localización digestiva. Las técnicas inmunohistoquímicas son de gran utilidad a la hora de establecer diagnósticos diferenciales. Abstract: objective: to estimate the prevalence of diabetes mellitus and impaired fasting glycemia in an adult population living in madrid (spain). methods: in this cross-sectional, population-based survey, we studied 1,344 adults aged 31-70 years, randomly selected from the population living in 14 primary care districts of the madrid region. all participants underwent a clinical evaluation that included a clinical interview, physical examination and fasting blood analysis (glycemia, cholesterol and triglyceride levels). the participants were considered to be diabetic if they had been previously diagnosed with diabetes by their general physician or had a fasting glycemia > 126mg/dl without a previous diabetes diagnosis. impaired fasting glycemia was defined as fasting glycemia between 100mg/dl and 125mg/dl in non-diabetic participants. results: the sex- and age-adjusted prevalence figures for diabetes and impaired fasting glucose were 6.6% (95% ci: 5.9-8.7) and 14.1% (95% ci: 12.1-15.8), respectively. a substantial proportion of diabetic patients [17.2% (95% ci: 10.9-23.5)] had not been previously diagnosed. the variables independently associated with diabetes were age, male gender, abdominal obesity and hypertension. conclusions: our prevalence figure for diabetes is similar to those reported in other spanish regions. the high frequency of impaired fasting glucose is worrisome, particularly when combined with obesity, as this association confers a high risk for developing diabetes mellitus.
Influencia en la dosis de diálisis de diferentes flujos de líquido dializante en el paciente tratado con hemodiafiltración on-line o hemodiálisis convencional

Abstract: the dialysis dose affects survival of patients undergoing dialysis, as well as affecting the correction of anaemia, the nutritional state and the control of blood pressure, among others. some authors have indicated the dialysis fluid flow rate as a determining factor in the dialysis dose for patients undergoing high-flow haemodialysis and haemodiafiltration. the aim of this study is to evaluate the impact on the dialysis efficacy of different flow rates of dialysis fluid in patients treated with on-line post-dilution haemodiafiltration and conventional haemodialysis, by measuring the final convective volume and rinse solution volume of small molecules using kt. in all patients, 9 consecutive dialysis sessions were carried out varying the qd: 3 sessions with qd 500 ml/min, 3 sessions with qd 800 ml/min and 2 sessions with autoflow. from the results obtained, kt is shown to be significantly higher with qd 800 ml/min (59.69 ± 6.07 litres) compared to qd 500 ml/min (56.51 ± 6.33 litres, p<0.001) and autoflow (58.02 ± 4.89 litres); and kt in autoflow was found to be higher (p<0.001) than qd 500 ml/min. the increase in flow rate of dialysis fluid means an increase in the dialysis dose in patients treated with online haemodiafiltration. the autoflow achieves an appreciable increase in dose compared to qd of 500 ml/min with a minimum additional cost, and should therefore be considered as a measure in an overall treatment framework, permitting individualization of treatment for each patient.
Diversity and Phenology of the Braconid Community (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) in the Mediterranean Protected Landscape of Sierra Calderona (Spain)  [PDF]

Abstract:

The diversity of the Braconidae subfamilies (Hymenoptera) in the protected landscape of the Natural Park of Sierra Calderona (Eastern Spain) is analysed. Samplings have been carried out along 2010 in three different habitats: almond crop, Oak forest (Quercus suber L.) and Pine forest (Pinus halepensis Miller). In total, 2166 braconid specimens, belonging to 23 subfamilies, have been captured. Alpha, beta and gamma diversities are analysed. As a result, almond crop habitat is proven to show the greatest diversity. The structure of the community and the phenology in each habitat are also analysed.

Optical Flow and Driver’s Kinematics Analysis for State of Alert Sensing

Abstract: Road accident statistics from different countries show that a significant number of accidents occur due to driver’s fatigue and lack of awareness to traffic conditions. In particular, about 60% of the accidents in which long haul truck and bus drivers are involved are attributed to drowsiness and fatigue. It is thus fundamental to improve non-invasive systems for sensing a driver’s state of alert. One of the main challenges to correctly resolve the state of alert is measuring the percentage of eyelid closure over time (PERCLOS), despite the driver’s head and body movements. In this paper, we propose a technique that involves optical flow and driver’s kinematics analysis to improve the robustness of the driver’s alert state measurement under pose changes using a single camera with near-infrared illumination. The proposed approach infers and keeps track of the driver’s pose in 3D space in order to ensure that eyes can be located correctly, even after periods of partial occlusion, for example, when the driver stares away from the camera. Our experiments show the effectiveness of the approach with a correct eyes detection rate of 99.41%, on average. The results obtained with the proposed approach in an experiment involving fifteen persons under different levels of sleep deprivation also confirm the discriminability of the fatigue levels. In addition to the measurement of fatigue and drowsiness, the pose tracking capability of the proposed approach has potential applications in distraction assessment and alerting of machine operators.

Abstract: biodiversity within the subfamily alyssinae (hymenoptera, braconidae) in the natural park pe?as de aya (spain). the study of parasitoid hymenoptera is of significance for the assessment of diversity in a given area because of their role in the regulation of insects populations. the present work analyses diversity within alysiinae (hymenoptera, braconidae) in the forested estate of artikutza, located in the natural park pe?as de aya, western pyrenees, spain. collection of specimens was spread over two years and was carried out in two different habitats: mixed forest and beech forest. a total of 2,270 specimens, belonging to 22 separate genera, were captured. subsequently, alpha, beta and gamma diversities were analysed, and the beech forest was proven to host greater diversity than the mixed forest. a sampling strategy was adopted for the analysis of alysiinae phenology and its relationship with environmental climatic conditions; as a result, a direct relationship between phenology and temperature was attested.

Experiencias de flujo y rendimiento escolar en adolescentes

Abstract: El presente trabajo analiza la asocia-ción entre el flujo experimentado con las actividades escolares y el rendi-miento escolar obtenido. Previamente se examinó el flujo experimentado por una muestra de 166 adolescentes a partir de todas las actividades que efectuaron durante una semana. El flujo fue medido a partir de los nueve componentes descritos por Jackson y Csikszentmihalyi. Los resultados indican que los hobbies activos re-portan un estado de flujo más elevado que ver la televisión y estudiar. El rendimiento escolar se ha asociado al tiempo de estudio y al flujo expe-rimentado por el estudio. Esos dos factores han resultado ser redictores del rendimiento en ambos géneros. Se discuten estos resultados y se sugieren líneas de investigación en esta área.
Implementation of the Hough Transform for Iris Detection and Segmentation  [PDF]

Abstract: The iris is used as a reference for the study of unique biometric marks in people. The analysis of how to extract the iris characteristic information represents a fundamental challenge in image analysis, due to the implications it presents: detection of relevant information, data coding schemes, etc. For this reason, in the search for extraction of useful and characteristic information, approximations have been proposed for its analysis. In this article, it is presented a scheme to extract the relevant information based on the Hough transform. This transform helps to find primitive geometries in the irises, which are used to characterize each one of these. The results of the implementation of the algorithm of the Hough transform applied to the location and segmentation of the iris by means of its circumference are presented in the paper. Two public databases of iris images were used: UBIRIS V2 and CASIA-IrisV4, which were acquired under the same conditions and controlled environments. In the pre-processing stage the edges are found from the noise elimination in the image through the Canny detector. Subsequently, to the images of the detected edges, the Hough transform is applied to the disposition of the geometries detected.
