Abstract: this review focuses the development of electrochemical detection systems coupled to capillary electrophoresis. conductometric, amperometric, voltametric, and potentiometric modes of detection are reviewed. the positioning of the electrodes, interferences of high electric field, and the materials employed in the fabrication and modification of the electrodes are discussed. the advantages of the use of electrochemical detection with capillary electrophoresis, regarding to the sensitivity and selectivity, is exemplified with a large number of applications. also, the use of electrochemical detection systems in microchip technology is addressed.

Abstract: this article describes the use of a conventional crt monitor as a high voltage power supply for capillary electrophoresis. with this monitor, a 23-kv high voltage with a ripple of 1.32% was observed. the reproducibility of the applied high voltage was evaluated by measuring the standard deviations of peak area and migration time for five consecutive injections of a test mixture containing potassium, sodium, and lithium cations at 50 mmol l-1. the errors were about 2.5% and 0.6% for peak area and migration time, respectively. the maximum current tested was about 180 ma, which covers most capillary electrophoresis applications. this system has been successfully used for several months, maintaining the desired level of performance.

Abstract:

Hydrogenated amorphous carbon coatings, deposited by low pressure plasma to minimize the wear of C100 steel components, were optimized and characterized. In order to ensure good adhesion of the films to the steel surface, a thin Ti interlayer was deposited, by magnetron sputtering, before the plasma deposition. The chemical characterization of the deposits was performed by means of RAMAN, XPS, RBS and ERDA analysis, while nanoindentation, nanoscratch and nanowear tests allowed to estimating the tribomechanical properties of the deposits, with the aim of evaluating their scuff-resistance. It was found that the optimized plasma deposited hydrogenated amorphous carbon coatings were well adherent to C100 steel and increased more than 70% its surface hardness.

Abstract: This paper describes the development of a plasma process to produce a durable water repellent and anti-stain thin film on synthetic textile, utilized for the upholstery in the automotive field. The coatings were deposited in non equilibrium low pressure plasmas fed with 1H, 1H, 2H-perfluo-ro- 1-decene employing, as substrates, polyethylene terephthalate and polyethylene terephthalate thermo-coupled to polyurethane foam. It was found that the XPS F/C ratio of the deposit was higher than 1.4 and that the treated textile was always very hydrophobic (WCA > 140?) and oil resistant (motor oil CA > 110?), even after wear.

Abstract: Introduction: Simple suture isn’t always possible in large congenital diaphragmatic hernia (cdh) defects. Synthetic materials are used for correction such as Silastic®, Gore-Tex® (GT), Teflon® or biological, such as autologous muscle patches. It was shown that bovine pericardium (bp) was effective to correct those large defects with many positive outcomes when compared with syntactic materials. Aim: This study aims to establish an experimental model of correction for large diaphragmatic defect with PB and GT patches to compare histologically the tissue interaction between them and diaphragm in young Wistar rats. Materials & Methods: 15 wistar rats were divided in 3 groups: Rats that used BP was named G1; Rats that used GT was named G2; and rats with only scraping in the diphragm, named G3 (control). Animals were submited to a laparotomy and fixed pathces to diaphragms and harvested 3 weeks later. Area between normal diaphragm and patches were isolated and separated for histological analysis, such as lymphocytic infiltration (inflammation), neovascularization and fibrosis. Results: G1 presented inflammation between BP and Diaphragm In 5 Samples. G2 Presented Neovascularization In 5 Samples, But No inflammation. Abstract: Apical ballooning syndrome, also called takotsubo cardiomyopathy, has been recently reported. It may mimic acute myocardial infarction and is typically observed in postmenopausal women after stressful events. A 75-year-old female after permanent dual chamber pacemaker implant complained of chest pain with repolarization alterations suggesting acute myocardial ischemia. Echocardiography showed a left ventricle with akinesia of the apical portions and reduced global systolic function. The patient was treated with antithrombotic agents and intravenous nitrates. No coronary lesions were found at angiography. At ventriculography, a typical takotsubo-like shape of the left ventricle was observed. The clinical and echocardiographic picture normalized at discharge.

Abstract: this technical note describes a new and simple electronic circuit for driving solenoid valves. the circuit is based on a single integrated circuit drv103, which is able to drive resistive or inductive loads up to 1.5 a. switching of 12-v loads can be controlled by ttllevel signals in two distinct steps. initially, 12 v is applied during 110 ms, followed by 4.2 vrms until the end of the activation ttl pulse. this mode of operation is particularly suitable to drive solenoids, because it requires a higher voltage to start and a lower maintenance voltage. by using this circuit, power consumption and heating are reduced and the solenoid lifetime is enhanced. moreover, this circuit is specially appropriated to build computercontrolled solenoid valves systems.

Abstract: Se reportan los primeros registros de presencia para cuatro especies de mamíferos (Dasypus novemcinctus, Cerdocyon thous, Procyon cancrivorus y Axis axis) en el sector bonaerense del Bajo Delta del río Paraná y bajíos ribere os adyacentes, Argentina. La inexistencia de datos previos para estas especies en la zona, pese a que se trata de un área previamente bien relevada, sugiere que su ingreso habría sido reciente. El número de registros obtenidos, su dispersión en el área y las observaciones de los pobladores respecto de la frecuencia de avistajes sugerirían que estas especies poseen actualmente poblaciones establecidas en la zona.
