Horticultura Brasileira , 2003,

Abstract: objective: to describe and analyse the nurses? activities in consultation with alcoholics from the alcoholism assistance program (paa) of hospital universitário cassiano ant?nio moraes (hucam) in universidade federal do espírito santo (ufes). methods: the study was developed in paa/hucam/ufes, through a survey of nurse consultations (ce) carried out with alcoholic patients from january to december 2002. the data was collected through a questionnaire which contained identification data and nurses? procedures. the analysis is quantitative by descriptive statistics and qualitative by nurses consultations steps. results: 603 nurses consultations were realized (28.7% initial consultation and 71.3% follow-up consultation). the clientele profile is 28% from the metropolitan region, 94% male and 6% female; 50.6% married; 40-60 years old and 73.6% were classified with serious alcohol dependence. in the initial consultation for self care, the priority was reduction of signs and symptoms of withdrawal syndrome; and in follow-up, treatment of alcoholism and its complications. conclusions: the ce in paa/hucam/ufes has been developed through first attending to basic human needs (horta?s theory), and then concentrating the nurses? attention on self care (orem?s theory). in such way the nurse facilitates change conditions through continued and qualified information that aims to maintain abstinence and reformulate a life style that results in the patient?s success in society.

Computational study of shock waves propagating through air-plastic-water interfaces

Abstract: The following study is motivated by experimental studies in traumatic brain injury (TBI). Recent research has demonstrated that low intensity non-impact blast wave exposure frequently leads to mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI); however, the mechanisms connecting the blast waves and the mTBI remain unclear. Collaborators at the Seattle VA Hospital are doing experiments to understand how blast waves can produce mTBI. In order to gain insight that is hard to obtain by experimental means, we have developed conservative finite volume methods for interface-shock wave interaction to simulate these experiments. A 1D model of their experimental setup has been implemented using Euler equations for compressible fluids. These equations are coupled with a Tammann equation of state (EOS) that allows us to model compressible gas along with almost incompressible fluids or elastic solids. A hybrid HLLC-exact Eulerian-Lagrangian Riemann solver for Tammann EOS with a jump in the parameters has been developed. The model has shown that if the plastic interface is very thin, it can be neglected. This result might be very helpful to model more complicated setups in higher dimensions.
Tempoporomandibular joint: Morphological and phisiological aspects  [PDF]
Mauricio Moscovici
Advances in Bioscience and Biotechnology (ABB) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/abb.2013.45080
Abstract:

This is a study where 60 temporomandibular joints were analysed. Method: dissection of anatomical parts, preserving TMJ itself, pterygoid lateral muscle, and its insertions. A special study of the articular disc was performed through histological slicing, for defining its structure and insertions. Results were compared with classical descriptions of different authors. Innervation of related structures is commented, as well as clinical aspects of TMJ conditions in view of its morphological and physiological aspects. Dental occlusion guide alterations, malocclusion, interfere on the TMJ movements, leading to meniscus traumatic compres-sion with possible chronic headache syndrome.
