Vena cava superior izquierda persistente asociada con cardiopatías congénitas
Vargas,Florentino J.;
Revista argentina de cardiolog?-a , 2008,
Abstract: persistent left superior vena cava associated with congenital heart defects is generally a benign finding without hemodynamic impact which does not need surgery. nevertheless, in some circumstances, it may result a condition needing a treatment, or it may be necessary to perform certain modifications in surgical techniques used for other congenital heart defects. the present article deals with a review of those situations in which a persistent left superior vena cava needs a specific surgical approach. in addition, an original surgical procedure used in these patients, which has been recently reported by our team, is commented in relationship with each of the different anatomic presentations.
Vena cava superior izquierda persistente asociada con cardiopatías congénitas
Florentino J. Vargas

Coherent State Transforms and Vector Bundles on Elliptic Curves
C. Florentino,J. Mourao,J. P. Nunes
Mathematics , 2002,
Abstract: We extend the coherent state transform (CST) of Hall to the context of the moduli spaces of semistable holomorphic vector bundles with fixed determinant over elliptic curves. We show that by applying the CST to appropriate distributions, we obtain the space of level k, rank n and genus one non-abelian theta functions with the unitarity of the CST transform being preserved. Furthermore, the shift k -> k+n appears in a natural way in this finite-dimensional framework.
Are men and women-economists evenly distributed across research fields? Some new empirical evidence
Juan J. Dolado,Florentino Felgueroso,Miguel Almunia
SERIEs , 2012, DOI: 10.1007/s13209-011-0065-4
Abstract: This paper analyzes the gender distribution of research fields in economics based on a new dataset of almost 1,900 researchers affiliated to top-50 economics departments in 2005, as ranked by Econphd.net website. We document that women are unevenly distributed across fields and test some behavioral implications from theories underlying such disparities. Our main findings are that the probability that a woman works on a given field is positively related to the share of women already working on that field (path-dependence), and that this phenomenon is better explained by women avoiding male-dominated fields than by men avoiding female dominated fields. This pattern, however, is weaker for younger female researchers who spread more evenly across fields.
Florentino J. Vargas,Ricardo López,Victorio Picone,Jorge Rozenbaum
Florentino, Renata;
Opini?o Pública , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-62762008000100008
Abstract: this article intends to analize the relationship between the city of brasília′s youth and the institutional politics. we show what is behind the rejection to professional politicians and to the institutions they control. instead of stereotipyze the critical behavior of the youth, we first analyze the context where this refusal takes place. we find an established democracy, with stable elections, but not corresponding to the expectations created during its implementation, added to a population that is well informed about the youth, it is necessary to ask if this lack of trust on institutional politics shows disconected worlds or a opened space to the emergence of new forms of political organization. this article is based on 2005 pnad (national research by housing sample) data and the youth development index of unesco, to describe the city of brasilia youth, and on electoral supreme court, about youth voting registering.
Florentino, Renata;
Revista de Sociologia e Política , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-44782008000100005
Abstract: tired or excluded? this text maps the profile of the politicians who most frequently tend to give up the race for office. it is based on research covering legislative elections between 1990 and 2006, observing the profile of representatives and senators who refused to be considered the "natural candidates" and opted not to run for re-election nor go for higher-level offices. politicians who ran for offices that are considered to be of lesser prestige than the ones originally occupied are also included in our analysis, in order to look at unsuccessful trajectories and compare them with cases in which a mandate has been given up completely. this group of members of parliament could, at a first glance, seem to constitute the exception to the well-known formula that politicians become increasingly ambitious. in general terms, we note that the politicians who step back from electoral struggle - whether permanently or maintaining some strategies to continue - belong to groups that 1) have in some way exhausted their participation and influence in political competition (for example, they may have been exposed through scandal, gotten old or belong to decadent social groups) or 2) have not yet managed to enter the political field with the same ease as their peers (as in the case of women, those who debut in a first mandate, substitutes or members of parliament who represent minority factions).
Manolo Florentino
Historia Crítica , 2012,
Abstract: This paper analyzes the demographic responses of the large slaver land holders of Rio de Janeiro, to the British pressure to end slavery in the Atlantic Ocean. It places special emphasis on the decades of 1810 and 1820, although it covers a longer period in lesser detail. The article questions the idea, widely disseminated in Brazilian historiography, that the internal slave trade in Brazil was enough to respond to the demands of growing slaver plantations and, therefore, that the natural positive growth of the slave population and of slavery were incompatible variables in colonial and imperial Brazil.
