Flaviana Frascogna
Antrocom : Online Journal of Anthropology , 2008,

Abstract: we take into consideration the importance that issues such as cultural diversity and identity have risen for the reflection on the role of the school today. hence, in this text, we try to develop some ideas regarding this topic based on the elements brought by laurent cantet in the film "the class". the option to discuss this question through elements/situations from a cinematographic piece of work is justified by the fact that we understand the relevance of the cinema as a language in expressing views, meanings and reflections on questions posed to society. therefore, we try to discuss the way cantet uses the microcosm of the classroom and of the school, highlighting their "walls" as a metaphor, so as to think about the society itself. we point out, as a result of the issues approached by cantet, the relevance of the intercultural education proposals in order to rethink the role of the school today.
The Importance of the Trainer`s Gaze in Horse Training
Simona Normando,Iris Perini,Flaviana Gottardo
Journal of Animal and Veterinary Advances , 2012,
Abstract: New training methods which rely on the ethological characteristics of the horse are spreading in the horse world. Some of them highlight the importance of trainer-horse eye contact during training in the round pen. The aim of this study was to assess the effects of eye contact with the trainer on the behaviour of saddle horses during training. Ten horses, aged 4 to 17 years, were subjected to two training sessions in the round pen, one in which the trainer was wearing very dark sunglasses, the other in which the trainer was wearing normal transparent glasses. The latency of some behaviour patterns which are deemed to be representative of the horse s attention towards the trainer and acceptance of the trainer as a social leader, were measured. The results show that horses oriented the inner ear towards the trainer, sham-chewed, lowered the head, stopped, approached and followed the trainer sooner (p<0.01) when the trainer was wearing transparent rather than dark glasses.
A=D: SIGNIFICANT
Samuel Lincoln Bezerra Lins,Flaviana Estrela Maroja
Psicanálise e Barroco em Revista , 2009,
Abstract: The lacanian concept of significant is a part of the interpretation in psychoanalytic clinics. To get to this word, Lacan did a re-reading on Freud's texts and articulates it to Saussure's Linguistics. The significant is pre-existent in the subject, and its meaning of speech is directly related to the opposition relationship of a significant to another. The analytical listening aims at establishing a relationship among the significants that the subject does, as well as the own effect that it gives to its speech. Therefore, this article has the goal of th correlating the concept of significant and its expression through films, literature and linguistics, once that the many interactions of psychoanalysis with other sciences makes it more interesting and understandable
Main critical factors affecting the welfare of beef cattle and veal calves raised under intensive rearing systems in Italy: a review

Italian Journal of Animal Science , 2010, DOI: 10.4081/ijas.2009.s1.67
Abstract: This review describes the principal causes of poor welfare in beef cattle and veal calves raised in intensive husbandry systems in Italy. Nowadays there are no specific regulations in force for beef cattle welfare. However, a document produced in 2001 by the Scientific Committee on Animal Health and Animal Welfare of the European Commission on Health and Consumer Protection identified the main causes of inadequate welfare levels in the different cattle rearing systems in Europe. In Italy and in the Po Valley in particular, the beef cattle farms are mainly finishing units characterised by animals kept at high density in multiple pens and fed high starch diets. Under these rearing conditions the limited space allowance is one of the most important issues impairing animal welfare. Other risk factors for poor welfare related to the housing structures are type of floor, space at the manger, number of water dispensers and lack of specific moving and handling facilities. Microclimatic conditions can be critical especially during the summer season when cattle can experience heat stress. The feeding plan adopted in the Italian beef farms may be another factor negatively affecting the welfare of these animals due to the low content of long fibre roughage which increases the risk of metabolic acidosis. In the veal calf rearing systems there has been a mandatory introduction of the new system of production according to the European Council Directives 91/629/EEC and 97/2/EC. Farms had to adopt group housing and to provide calves with an increasing amount of fibrous feed in addition to the all-liquid diet. Despite this specific legislation, several risk factors for calves’ welfare can still be identified. Some of them are related to the housing system (type of floor, air quality, feed and water supply equipment and lack of loading facilities) and some others to the feeding plan (type and amount of roughage, quality of milk replacers). Recent studies have shown that the welfare of veal calves and beef cattle can be severely affected by the quality of the stockmanship and particularly by negative human-animal interaction.
Integral representation for functionals defined on $SBD^p$ in dimension two
Sergio Conti,Matteo Focardi,Flaviana Iurlano
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: We prove an integral representation result for functionals with growth conditions which give coercivity on the space $SBD^p(\Omega)$, for $\Omega\subset\mathbb{R}^2$. The space $SBD^p$ of functions whose distributional strain is the sum of an $L^p$ part and a bounded measure supported on a set of finite $\mathcal{H}^{1}$-dimensional measure appears naturally in the study of fracture and damage models. Our result is based on the construction of a local approximation by $W^{1,p}$ functions. We also obtain a generalization of Korn's inequality in the $SBD^p$ setting.
Which special functions of bounded deformation have bounded variation?
Sergio Conti,Matteo Focardi,Flaviana Iurlano
Mathematics , 2015,
Abstract: Functions of bounded deformation ($BD$) arise naturally in the study of fracture and damage in a geometrically linear context. They are related to functions of bounded variation ($BV$), but are less well understood. We discuss here the relation to $BV$ under additional regularity assumptions, which may require the regular part of the strain to have higher integrability or the jump set to have finite area or the Cantor part to vanish. On the positive side, we prove that $BD$ functions which are piecewise affine on a Caccioppoli partition are in $GSBV$, and we prove that $SBD^p$ functions are approximately continuous ${\mathcal{H}}^{n-1}$-a.e. away from the jump set. On the negative side, we construct a function which is $BD$ but not in $BV$ and has distributional strain consisting only of a jump part, and one which has a distributional strain consisting of only a Cantor part.
Phase field approximation of cohesive fracture models
Sergio Conti,Matteo Focardi,Flaviana Iurlano
Mathematics , 2014,
Abstract: We obtain a cohesive fracture model as a $\Gamma$-limit of scalar damage models in which the elastic coefficient is computed from the damage variable $v$ through a function $f_k$ of the form $f_k(v)=min\{1,\varepsilon_k^{1/2} f(v)\}$, with $f$ diverging for $v$ close to the value describing undamaged material. The resulting fracture energy can be determined by solving a one-dimensional vectorial optimal profile problem. It is linear in the opening $s$ at small values of $s$ and has a finite limit as $s\to\infty$. If the function $f$ is allowed to depend on the index $k$, for specific choices we recover in the limit Dugdale's and Griffith's fracture models, and models with surface energy density having a power-law growth at small openings.
