L'Italia dei Divieti: entre o sonho de ser européia e o babado da prostitui??o
Teixeira, Flávia do Bonsucesso;
Cadernos Pagu , 2008, DOI: 10.1590/S0104-83332008000200013
Abstract: the dream of traveling between brazil and europe is easy to find in the referential bibliography about transvestites. the changes related to the trafficking in persons, in the brazilian penal code in 2005, show how different interpretations of the terminology "facilitate" and "facilitation" made a strong impact on transvestites' lives, criminalizing some practices of this group that had in fact been part of their sociability. i argue that the unrecognized position of prostitution as legal work creates a substantial gap between the transvestites and the other illegal brazilian workers, which leads them into potentially vulnerable situations.
The building and maintenance of intersubjectivity in chemistry classroom
Flávia Maria Teixeira dos Santos
Investiga??es em Ensino de Ciências , 2004,
Abstract: In this paper we shall analyze the interaction between a Brazilian high school chemistry teacher and her students, emphasizing the dynamic of interactions and the building and maintenance of intersubjectivity states. Specifically, we shall examine the discourse in the classroom and explore some implications of it to understand the role of intersubjectivity in instructional discourse. The discursive episodes are meant to show how intersubjectivity negotiations are influential for the students' engagement in academic tasks.

Abstract:

The increasing on the levels of carotenoids in staple foods of broad human consumption is one of the strategies of food biofortification programs, mainly due to the importance of these compounds to human health on the prevention of vitamin A deficiency. Maize is a major staple food due to its high consumption in regions where problems of Vitamin A deficiency are of great relevance. Maize biofortification programs have made progress in determining the amounts of carotenoids in grain of thousands of accesses. This work aimed at studying the influence of the color of the grains in the profile of carotenoids in four different Brazilian genotypes. The selection of ears within the same genotype was based on a color scale, considering the lighter (lightest yellow) in one group and the most colorful (darkest orange) in another group. Significant interactions (p < 0.05) between the color of the grains and the genotypes for all the variables were detected in addition to genetic variability for both groups (lightest yellow and darkest orange). The colored ears of corn showed a high level of total carotenoids (TC) and fractions in RS 535 and RS 445, and the colorful ears of genotype RS 535 showed 300% more α + β carotenes (μg·g-1) in relation to lighter of this same material. The results of this study showed the influence of genotype on the grain color and content of carotenoids, indicating that breeders have the flexibility to make selection of some genotypes based on grain

American Journal of Plant Sciences (AJPS) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/ajps.2015.612192
Abstract: Insects of the genus Sitophilus are among the most destructive pests in rice storage, and the best strategy to control it is to use resistant genotypes. In this study, 26 upland rice elite lines were evaluated for Sitophilus weevil reaction on grain weight. The seeds were placed in plastic recipients stored in a room with temperature and lightning simulating a warehouse environment. The number of living weevils and the grain weight were obtained in two evaluations, one 35 days after storage, and the other 35 days after infestation. The lines differed statistically for number of living weevils and for grain weight in both evaluations. The correlations between these two characters were -?0.99 and -?0.47 for the first and the second evaluation (P < 0.05), respectively. The lines BRS Pepita, AB 112089 and AB 112090 were the most susceptible. Seventeen of the twenty-six elite lines were resistant in both evaluations and could be successfully used in upland rice breeding programs.
Effect of Baculovirus spodoptera isolates in Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) larvae and their characterization by RAPD
Barreto, Marliton R.;Guimaraes, Cláudia T.;Teixeira, Flávia F.;Paiva, Edilson;Valicente, Fernando H.;
Neotropical Entomology , 2005, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-566X2005000100010
Abstract: the total of 22 baculovirus isolates surveyed in different corn producing regions in brazil were used against fall armyworm, spodoptera frugiperda (j.e. smith). the viruses were purified and their suspensions were used to feed fall armyworm larvae from 4th and 5th instar. the mortality rate was checked daily and the infected larvae were frost after death, what generally occurred between the 5th and 7th day after virus ingestion. the 22 baculovirus isolates were used in six concentrations (from 103 to 108 polyhedra/ml) and one check treatment with water. mortality rate, larval period, pupal period, pupa weight and lethal concentration (lc50) were determined for all isolates. significant differences were found among all isolates and different concentrations, also interaction between isolate x virus concentration for all characteristics evaluated, except for pupal period. amplification patterns of 54 rapd markers, being 41 polymorphic among the isolates, were used to evaluate the genetic distance and its correlation with the fall armyworm larvae mortality rate. the genetic diversity calculated by the jaccard's coefficient using the molecular data allowed a division of the isolates into two groups, with a high level of confidence. these groups did not present any association with the mortality rate caused by the isolates or with their geographical distribution. however, a rapd fragment opw04.2280 was highly associated with the larvae mortality rate and with lc50, explaining 23 and 65% of the phenotypic variation for these traits among the isolates, respectively.

Abstract: the evaluation of critically ill patients using lung ultrasound, even if performed by nonspecialists, has recently garnered greater interest. because lung ultrasound is based on the fact that every acute illness reduces lung aeration, it can provide information that complements the physical examination and clinical impression, the main advantage being that it is a bedside tool. the objective of this review was to evaluate the clinical applications of lung ultrasound by searching the pubmed and the brazilian virtual library of health databases. we used the following search terms (in portuguese and english): ultrasound; lung; and critical care. in addition to the most relevant articles, we also reviewed specialized textbooks. the data show that lung ultrasound is useful in the differential diagnosis of pulmonary infiltrates, having good accuracy in identifying consolidations and interstitial syndrome. in addition, lung ultrasound has been widely used in the evaluation and treatment of pleural effusions, as well as in the identification of pneumothorax. this technique can also be useful in the immediate evaluation of patients with dyspnea or acute respiratory failure. other described applications include monitoring treatment response and increasing the safety of invasive procedures. although specific criteria regarding training and certification are still lacking, lung ultrasound is a fast, inexpensive, and widely available tool. this technique should progressively come to be more widely incorporated into the care of critically ill patients.
