Abstract: based on practical experiences, it was presented the way to assess the potential and the depredating capacity of mosquito larvae by direct observations in the laboratory, using fish. the objective is to facilitate a methodology that allows to know about the behavior of those vertebrates in the presence of the immature stages of the hematophagous diptera in different water bodies.

Abstract: OBJETIVO: evaluar si la depredación del copépodo Mesocyclops aspericornis depende de su densidad o la de sus presas, en este caso, larvas de Culex quinquefasciatus. MéTODOS: se realizaron 2 experimentos de depredación del copépodo Mesocyclops aspericornis, sobre larvas de primer estadio de Culex quinquefasciatus al cabo de 24 h. En el primero se valoró la depredación de diferentes cantidades del copépodo (5, 10, 15, 20 y 25 en 1 L de agua declorada) ante 120 larvas, con 10 réplicas. El segundo evaluó la influencia de la densidad de las larvas sobre la eficiencia del depredador, para ello se varió la cantidad de larvas (40, 60, 80, 100 y 150 en 1 L de agua), con igual número de réplicas ante 10 copépodos. En el procesamiento de los datos se empleó el paquete estadístico STATGRAPHIG versión 5.0. RESULTADOS: la media de las larvas depredadas mostró una fuerte dependencia de la densidad del depredador, se obtuvo diferencias significativas en todos los casos, así para 25 copépodos se alcanzó 87 % de mortalidad larvaria mientras que con 5 copépodos la mortalidad fue de 22,16 %. En el siguiente experimento, la media de larvas depredadas en los 2 primeros tratamientos (40 y 60 larvas) difiere significativamente entre sí y con el resto de los tratamientos, pero a partir de 80 larvas no se encontraron diferencias significativas. CONCLUSIONES: Mesocyclops aspericornis, incrementó la eficiencia depredatoria con su densidad en valores menores e igual que 25 copépodos/L, y que la eficiencia de depredación aumenta hasta una relación de 1 copépodo/8 larvas, que evidencia una respuesta funcional del tipo 2. OBJECTIVE: to evaluate whether the predation efficiency of copepods Mesocyclops aspericomis depends on their density or on that of their preys that are Culex quinquefasciatus in this case. METHODS: Two experiments about the preying of copepod Mesocyclops aspericomis upon first stage Culex quinquefasciatus larvae were made in a 24h-interval. The first experiment assessed the preying capacity of different numbers of copepods (5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 in one liter of unchlorinated water) upon 120 larvae, with 10 replications. The second one evaluated the influence of larval density over the predation efficiency; to this end, the quantity of larvae changed (40, 60, 80,100 and 150 in one liter of water) exposed to 10 copepods, with 10 replications too. Abstract: OBJETIVO: se realizó un estudio de cohorte en los Consejos Populares de Báez y Guaracabulla, pertenecientes al municipio Placetas, provincia Villa Clara, para determinar la eficacia de 3 especies de peces fluviales: Gambusia punctata Poey, 1854, Gambusia puncticulata Poey, 1854 y Poecilia reticulata Peter, 1895, en el control de larvas de mosquitos en depósitos utilizados por la población para almacenar agua. MéTODOS: la investigación se inició en el mes de abril de 2006 y culminó en mayo de 2007, se seleccionaron solo los tanques bajos (interior y exterior de las viviendas) por ser más factibles de evaluar, se trabajó con una muestra de 1 740 depósitos que se dividieron en 2 grupos, los cuales se evaluaron por espacio de 1 a o. RESULTADOS: el riesgo de encontrar focos de mosquitos fue superior en el grupo de depósitos que no estaban expuestos a la presencia de peces, la diferencia de riesgo permitió plantear que por cada 100 depósitos tratados con peces, se logró evitar 8 focos de mosquitos. CONCLUSIONES: los peces larvívoros constituyen una excelente alternativa contra las poblaciones larvales de culícidos en depósitos utilizados por la población para almacenar agua, que resulta un factor de protección ante la incidencia de focos de mosquitos. The sample covered 1 740 tanks divided into 2 groups and evaluated for one year. RESULTS: the risk of finding mosquito foci was higher in the group of reservoirs non-exposed to the action of fish; this difference allowed stating that 8 mosquito foci were prevented per every 100 reservoirs treated with fish. CONCLUSIONS: larvivorous fish are an excellent choice to treat Cullicidae larval populations existing in water tanks and also a protective factor against incidence of mosquito foci.

Abstract: Se presentó, basado en experiencias prácticas, la forma de valorar el potencial y la capacidad depredadora a larvas de mosquitos, por medio de observaciones directas en el laboratorio utilizando peces. El objetivo es facilitar una metodología, que permita inferir sobre el comportamiento de esos vertebrados, en presencia de los estadios inmaduros de los dípteros hematófagos en diferentes cuerpos de agua. Abstract: OBJETIVO: el estudio se realizó en el municipio Yaguajay, provincia Sancti Spíritus con la finalidad de identificar las especies de moluscos presentes en los ecosistemas fluviales, así como su distribución y abundancia en cada reservorio. MéTODOS: se analizaron los a os 2005 y 2006, mediante 2 muestreos por a o, que abarcaron tanto el período lluvioso como el poco lluvioso, se muestrearon 20 reservorios donde se determinaron los moluscos fluviátiles presentes, los datos se procesaron en el programa computarizado Excel XP y para la realización del análisis estadístico se utilizó el procesador SPSS versión 8 realizando tablas de contingencia de 4 x 4. RESULTADOS: se identificaron 10 especies en 2005, Tarebia granifera resultó la más distribuida y abundante, seguida por Marisa cornuarietis. En el 2006, 14 especies y también las antes mencionadas fueron las más distribuidas. Se constató que en la época de lluvia fue donde mayor cantidad de ejemplares se colectaron en los 2 a os estudiados, además se demostró que no hubo una correlación significativa entre la aparición de las especies de moluscos y peces en los veinte reservorios estudiados. CONCLUSIONES: el municipio Yaguajay posee una fauna de moluscos fluviales que se puede considerar como amplia si se tiene en cuenta que se identificaron 14 especies, de las cuales, 4 resultaron hospederas intermediarias para la transmisión de fasciolosis, esquistosomosis y angiostrogylosis; existe una estrecha relación entre la malacofauna fluviátil con la vegetación. METHODS: two years 2005 and 2006 were analyzed through 2 samplings per years covering the rainy and the dry season; 20 reservoirs were sampled to determine the present freshwater mollusks. Data were processed by Excel xp and the statistical analysis used SPSS version 8 processor and 4 x 4 contingency tables. RESULTS: ten species were detected in 2005, being Tarebia granifera the most distributed and abundant followed by Marisa cornuarietis. It was observed that the highest amount of mosquitoes was collected in the rainy season during the two years under study in addition to proving that there was significant correlation between the occurrence of mollusk species and fish in the 20 researched reservoirs. Abstract: Mathematics is an interesting subject for some people, but for others are borings. The objective of this small paper is to stimulate Senior High school students’ scientific knowledge, when using the mathematical formula of circumference to determine longitude of universe and area in the Big Bang, as well as to introduce Cristosoles [1] numbers and antilogarithms. The paper shows a clear way to use simple mathematical formulas to determine the measure of the universe, besides relating the Cristosol numbers with the antilogarithms that can exist only in the antiuniverse; it is the first time that the antilogarithms have been defined.
