A new species of Gyrodactylus (Monogenea, Gyrodactylidae), an ectoparasite from the endemic Iranocichla hormuzensis (Teleostei, Cichlidae), the only Iranian cichlid

European Journal of Taxonomy , 2012, DOI: 10.5852/ejt.2012.30
Abstract: Iranocichla hormuzensis occupies a biogeographically peculiar position. This endemic of southern Iran is the only Iranian cichlid. While it is phylogenetically related to African oreochromine members of the cichlid family, it remains unclear how it has dispersed into its current range. It is one of the many lasting enigmas of cichlid biogeography. Monogenean fish parasites may provide useful additional information in such cases. Therefore, I. hormuzensis was examined for these flatworms. A gyrodactylid parasite is reported and compared to congeners from the Palearctic and from cichlids. In this way, we verify whether it shows affinities to parasites from fishes that are either biogeographically or phylogenetically close to Iranocichla hormuzensis. The species is new to science and described as Gyrodactylus jalalii sp. nov. This is the first description of a parasite infecting I. hormuzensis. Because of the fixation method or age of the material, DNA could not be isolated. Due to the lack of genetic data, no conclusions can be drawn on its phylogenetic positioning. Indeed, Gyrodactylus phylogeny cannot be inferred from morphological characteristics alone. Moreover, the congeners phenotypically reminiscent of the new species belong to a Gyrodactylus clade which is highly diverse in geographic range and host choice. Hence, there is no evidence linking the new species to an exclusively African or cichlid-bound Gyrodactylus lineage.
Motivators of Students’ Persistence on Distance Learning Programmes in Ethno-Religious Crisis States in Nigeria: Implications for Counselling  [PDF]

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.513165
Abstract: This study determines students’ persistence on distance learning programmes despite ethno-religious crisis in twelve Northern States in Nigeria. States selected for the study are Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Bauchi, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Niger, Kogi and Sokoto states that have suffered the worst ethno-religious crisis from 2009 to date. A survey design via ex post facto was adopted for the study. Samples for the study were distance learners, (200 to 400 levels) who registered for the 2012/2013 examination, and 480 were selected from the 12 Study Centres through purposeful, and stratified random sampling techniques. Data for the study were collected through a rating scale which was administered and collected on the spot by the research assistants. Participants were asked to rate the shortlisted factors(Intrinsic-Personal and Extrinsic-support network factors) according to their levels of perceived significant influence on why they persisted on their programmes of study, despite the ethno-religious crisis. Experts in the Directorate of Learner Support Services were used to validate the content and face validities of the instrument while test-retest reliability method was used and Cronbach Alfa 0.78 was established. Descriptive statistics and Pearson Moment Correlations Coefficient analyses were used to determine the relative rating of each motivator. The findings were intrinsic motivators like: desire to complete the programme was rated highest followed by desire for personal growth and faith in God. The least motivator was, study centre learning environment, followed by security provided at the centre and Tutorial facilitators’ responses or feedback. The Pearson Moment Correlations Coefficient analysis indicated 0.83 level of relationship between extrinsic and extrinsic motivators. Recommendations were proffered at the end of the study and implications for counselling were discussed.

Ilizástigui Dupuy,Fidel;
Educaci?3n M??dica Superior , 2000,
Abstract: a reflection about the relevancy and up-to-dateness of the clinical method, considered as the process of diagnosis inherent to human practical medicine is made. epistemological considerations about the scientific nature of the clinical method, the taxonomy in medicine and the "cardinal types" of the differential diagnosis are given. the process of diagnosis from the point of view of the logical processes and, in particular, the deductive hypothetical method, is analyzed. the activation, refinement, and evaluation of hypotheses as operating mechanisms in the process of diagnosis are approached. considerations on the impact of computer technology on the clinical method and its improvement are made. finally, the pertinency of a transformation of the clinical method due to the appearance of a new paradigm of medicine that is more expansive and extensive, with a hermeneutic foundation of the meaning and interpretation of diagnosis, and with the human beign as the central axis and medicine as a human and practical science, is evaluated.
El Movimiento de Estudios Ciencia- Tecnología- Sociedad: su origen y tradiciones fundamentales
Martínez álvarez,Fidel;
Humanidades M??dicas , 2004,
Abstract: it is well-known that in our country efforts are being made for a decade towards the development and consolidation of a new scientific-technological culture that correspond to the demands of the current cuban socio-economic reality. the particularities of the development of our social project demand us to deepen into the social studies of science and the technology. for such a reason, the objective of this work consists of characterizing the most significant aspects of cts studies : its tendencies, schools and main representatives. it should also be pointed out that the most profitable thing to do in this case should not be to make a summary of the basic ideas of each approach or thinker, but rather to try to capture the conductive thread of the problems and more significant elaborations that gave origin to the cts movement and that have been discussed in each historical-cultural context

Martínez álvarez,Fidel;
Humanidades M??dicas , 2006,
