Indigência e penúria na era da técnica =Indigence and penury in the technical age
Ferreira Junior, Wanderley José
Veritas , 2012,
Take as basic references some reflections of the philosopher Martin Heidegger about the planetary domain technique to show a shortage of time marked by the end of philosophy as metaphysics by its achievement in technical sciences. It also explains how this end of philosophy in the age of planetary domain technique can be the starting point for a new beginning of thinking, thinking beyond the limits of calculative thinking. In the concluding part of the article seeks to determine the character and the task that would fit into this new way of thinking and knowing that we approach things as they are.
Williams and Bjerknes model with growth limitation
S. C. Ferreira Junior
Physics , 2001,
Abstract: Williams and Bjerknes proposed a simple stochastic growth model to describe the tumor growth in the basal layer of an epithelium. In this work we generalize this model by including the possibility of saturation in the tumor growth as it is clinically observed. The time evolution of the average number of tumor cells and its variance for both the original and extended models are studied by analytical methods and numerical simulations. The generated growth patterns can be compact, connected or disconnected depending on the model parameters used, and their geometrical properties are characterized through the gyration radius, the number of interfacial cells and the density of empty sites inside the patterns.
Solubilization of Bayóvar Natural Phosphate Rock under the Drain Effect of Calcium and Phosphorus at Two Levels of Acidity  [PDF]

Open Journal of Soil Science (OJSS) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/ojss.2017.78013
Abstract: Natural phosphate rock (NP) solubilization in soils is dependent on the soil pH and its power to remove or drain (sink effect) P and Ca of the solution that is in equilibrium with the NP. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of acidity and P- and Ca-sinks on the solubilization of bayóvar reactive rock phosphate (a phosphorite). Samples of this NP in aqueous suspension were placed in a cassette (Slide-A-Lyzzer G2 Dialysis Cassette) compartment and immersed in a beaker containing 150 mL of an aqueous solution with pH adjusted at 4.5 or 6.0, where P- and Ca-sinks individually or in their combinations, were applied. The tested sinks were: Anionic Resin (AR); Cationic Resin (CR); Mixed Resin (MR: AR + CR); Goethite (Goe); Goe + AR; Goe + CR and one control (NP only) in five replicates. Beakers (experimental units) were shaken for 12 h daily, at 130 rpm, until completing 30 days of equilibrium. The suspensions were filtered to extract solution-P from the residue on the filter paper; the labile-P was extracted from this residue using 0.8 mol·L-1 NH4Cl in 2 mol·L-1 HCl and, finally, the remainder P in the same residue together with the filter paper were subjected to nitric-perchloric acid digestion, to determine the P-residual in the extract. Goe caused greater solubilization of the NP, indicating that this P-sink was more effective than AR, causing similar or greater solubilization than CR. AR and CR, in a similar way, significantly restricted the trait characteristic of Goe (p < 0.05), at both pH values, in the solubilization of NP. Although Goe generally caused greater solubilization of the NP, it also caused the lower formation of labile-P. The CR presented, in general, the highest contents of solution-P, thus it triggered solubilization of NP without the immobilization of the solution-P, unlike the one with the AR that adsorbs it. In the lower pH condition (4.5), the solubilization of NP tended to be higher than at pH 6.0, although in a little effective way, compared to the effects of the sinks.

Pott Junior, Henrique;Ferreira, Maria Cristina Furian;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442009000500010
Abstract: noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium is a genetic cardiomyopathy due to an alteration in endomyocardial morphogenesis. when present, it is commonly associated with other congenital cardiac diseases, whereas it is rare as an isolated finding without other associated cardiac structural alterations. since its first report in 1990, the noncompaction of the ventricular myocardium has been widely studied in order to establish its genetic character, natural history, diagnostic methods, hemodynamic repercussions and prognosis. this study aims to report the case of an isolated noncompaction of the left ventricular myocardium with autopsy.
Infarto do miocárdio induzido por cocaína
Pott Junior, Henrique;Ferreira, Maria Cristina Furian;
Jornal Brasileiro de Patologia e Medicina Laboratorial , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S1676-24442009000500007
Abstract: the increased distribution and access to cocaine, lead to an increase of morbidity and mortality associated with its use. cocaine use has been associated with cardiovascular diseases, among them ischemia and myocardial infarction. since the first report of association between the use of cocaine, myocardial ischemia and infarction in 1982, the cardiovascular effects of cocaine have been extensively studied in order to establish its pathophysiological mechanism, structural changes, methods of diagnosis, prognosis and homodynamic effects. this study reports a case of multiple myocardial infarction induced by the use of cocaine with necroscopic study.
Apresenta??o clínica da alergia ao leite de vaca com sintomatologia respiratória
CARVALHO JUNIOR, FáBIO FERREIRA DE;
Jornal de Pneumologia , 2001, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-35862001000100005
Abstract: cow milk allergens are the first antigens children have contact with. the symptoms, which are frequently multi-systemic, may be related to the gastrointestinal tract, to the skin and, more rarely, to the respiratory tract. objective: to describe some clinic and epidemiological characteristics of children who have cow milk allergy and present respiratory symptoms. patients and method: this retrospective study included 17 children who presented respiratory problems immediately after ingesting cow milk, showed no symptoms as cow milk was excluded from their diets for a period of 4 to 6 weeks, and presented recurrent symptoms as cow milk was reintroduced into their diet in a hospital environment. results: no difference was observed between genders. family atopic antecedents were present in 14 of the 17 children. mean exclusive breast-feeding period was 2.9 months and the onset of symptoms occurred at an average of 3.6 months. eight of the ten tests conducted to evaluate immediate cutaneous hypersensitivity to cow milk were positive. clinical manifestations observed were: wheezing infants (9), asthma (5), repetition otitis (2), selective iga deficiency related to wheezing and allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (1). conclusion: regarding wheezing infants, cow milk allergy should be included as a differential diagnosis and exclusive breast-feeding should be stimulated in cases of atopic family antecedents. however, a precise diagnosis is vital to prevent unnecessary food deprivation.
Morphological variations and sexual dimorphism in Chelonoidis carbonaria (Spix, 1824) and Chelonoidis denticulata (Linnaeus, 1766) (Testudinidae)
Barros, MS;Silva, AG;Ferreira Junior, PD;
Brazilian Journal of Biology , 2012, DOI: 10.1590/S1519-69842012000100018
Abstract: chelonoidis dcarbonaria and c. denticulata are two tortoises which are widely distributed brazil. although they occur sympatrically in different areas, c. carbonaria prefers open areas, while c. denticulata chooses forest areas. significant morphological variations can be observed in these species due to the fact that they occupy a vast and environmentally diverse area. data on shell shape of captive individuals reveal important differences between the two species, mainly in the plastron scutes, carapace width, and head length. variation in shape is greater in c. carbonaria than in c. denticulata, which may be associated to a more elaborate and complex mating ritual. the shell shape in c. denticulata is more elongated than in c. carbonaria due to ecological habits. these aspects lead to a greater restriction in shape, limiting variation and dimorphism. in c. carbonaria, the shell opening is larger than in c. denticulata, which affords greater variation in shape. a more elongated shell facilitates movements of c. denticulata in densely forested areas. yet, this characteristic reduces shell opening, lessening the possibilities of variation in form.
Práticas corporais em Juiz de Fora (1876-1915)
Cunha Junior, Carlos Fernando Ferreira da;
Pro-Posi??es , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-73072011000300005
Abstract: until the 1920s, juiz de fora was considered the main city of minas gerais for its economic strength and cultural development. the city is located next to rio de janeiro and experienced an intense process of modernization as from the second half of the nineteenth century. our work explores the development of body practices in juiz de fora (mg) between 1876 and 1915, through the major tabloid published in the city, the newspaper entitled 'o pharol'. symbols of modernity, the body practices were developed in juiz de fora under the principles of health education (hygiene), and the logics of fun and entertainment.
Enteroparasitoses em escolares do Distrito de Martinésia, Uberlandia, MG: um estudo piloto
Ferreira, Carla Borges;Mar?al Junior, Oswaldo;
Revista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical , 1997, DOI: 10.1590/S0037-86821997000500004
Abstract: this work evaluates the occurence of intestinal parasites in the students of the martinesia district, uberlandia municipality, minas gerais state. a total of 103 children were examined, from september to november 1995, according to lutz or hoffman, pons and janer method. the overall prevalence rate was 22.3% and the highest indices of infection were observed in 8-9 age group (34.8%), in village dwellers (30.0%) and in females (26.9%). helminthosis and protozoosis showed similar prevalence rates (10.7% and 12.6%, respectively). giardia lamblia was the unique protozoan parasite verified and only one case of poliparasitism was found. we concluded that: the prevalence of enteroparasitosis in the studied group is lower than expectations for a rural community, what is, probably, a consequence of the good sanitary conditions presenting in that district.
