Abstract: the goal of this research was to understand the meanings and responses that mothers of sexually abused children gave to this phenomenon, which could provide useful knowledge for defining better policies and programs. it is a qualitative study that used discussion groups with five mothers of four girls and one boy who had been sexually abused. these mothers attended two family-care centers in the city of medellín, colombia, in 2005. the voices of these women show that sexual abuse happens in affective, communicative and socioeconomic vulnerable families, where this problem is a common issue in daily life. sexual abuse becomes a catastrophe that affects the precarious socioeconomic and affective balance that these families have built to cope with their difficult life situations. mothers undertake different actions to tackle with their situation under the social stigmatization, silence and poor support from the institutions that are supposed to help them. for these women, the reconstruction of their role as mothers becomes a central issue to overcome the feeling of impotence generated by the destruction of their socioeconomic and emotional family balance.
CONDUCTAS SEXUALES ALTERNAS Y PERMISIVIDAD EN JóVENES UNIVERSITARIOS
Elena Ca?izo Gómez,Fernando Salinas Quiroz

Abstract: red clover (trifolium pratense l.) is a valuable forage legume grown alone or in mixture with grasses in temperate regions of the world. red clover is adapted to a wide range of soil types, ph levels, environmental and management conditions. however, the main limitation of this species is the lack of persistence related to the high mortality of plants. in chile the main biotic factor affecting survival of plants is the root borer hylastinus obscurus (marsham) (coleóptera; scolytidae). in 1989, a red clover (t. pratense l.) breeding program was started at carillanca research center of the institute of agricultural research (inia), chile, with the main objectives of improving the survival of plants, forage yield and persistence. in 2002 a research line to study the interaction between the root borer and the plant was started. this paper describes briefly the improvement obtained in survival of young plants after twenty years of breeding and the importance of root borer population regarding forage yield. experiments were conducted at carillanca research center under irrigated conditions, comparing under cutting the dry matter yield of new synthetic lines and redqueli-inia with quinequeli-inia. the experimental lines syn int iv, syn pre iii, syn int v and syn int vi were more productive than the cultivars redqueli-inia and qui?equeli-inia at the second season. the evaluation of the biological parameter allowed identifying a tolerant line, syn pre i, and three potential new varieties: syn pre iii, syn int v and syn int vi. this is the first report showing an inverse relation between dry matter yield of red clover and root borer population (p<0.05). moreover, we report the first evidence that h. obscurus start the colonization of red clover plant of 6-month-old.

Abstract: experiments were conducted in order to determine color preference of thrips (frankliniella occidentalis pergande) in sweet pepper (capsicum annuum l.)crops in the localities of cerrillos de tamaya (30° s lat; 71°16? w long) and pan de azúcar (29°55? s lat; 71°14? w long), iv region, chile. blue, white, white-blue, and yellow sticky traps were compared in a randomized complete block design experiment. results showed that f. occidentalis was the predominant species in the pepper crop. in the blue, white-blue and white traps significantly more thrips were caught than in the yellow traps, when the number of captures was more than 300 thrips per week per trap. the results were erratic with lower numbers of captures.

Abstract: a series of experiments were carried out in order to optimize a protocol for the direct organogenesis of chilean red clover germplasm. a range of cultivars were used to analyze the effect of explant source (crown or stem meristems of vegetative plants), culture media and plant growth regulators. our findings showed that stem meristems were easier to obtain, presented lower levels of contamination and a better development than crown meristems. the l2 medium showed better results than b5 and ms media for the cultivars and experimental lines studied. l2 medium supplemented with 0.003 mg/l of 4-amino-3,5,6-trichloropicolinic acid and 1.0 mg/l of 6-benzylaminopurine gave consistently better results and will be applied in our breeding program to propagate, maintain and eliminate viruses from elite red clover clones.

Abstract: selenium (se) is part of the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase (gsh-px; ec 1.11.1.9) structure, whose blood activity is related to the blood level of selenium. this study was designed to validate the analytical method to analyze the gsh-px blood activity at the clinical pathology laboratory of the universidad austral de chile, and to correlate it with blood se level in dairy cattle from the south of chile. blood heparinized samples were taken from 112 dairy cows from eight dairy herds located at valdivia province, chile. a kinetic nadph-dependent technique was used to analyze the blood gsh-px, and the content of se in blood and plasma was analyzed by neutron activation. the se concentration in blood was analyzed in 12 samples to correlate gsh-px blood activity with blood and plasma se level. the inaccuracy and imprecision were 5.9% and 10%, respectively. the mean and standard deviation of the obtained values were 89 ± 45 u/g of hemoglobin (hb). the correlation between blood selenium and blood gsh-px activity was r=0.97 (p< 0.05). accordingly, it is possible to analyze the blood activity of gsh-px by using the described technique. the blood activity of gsh-px was related to the blood selenium level.

S.; 71°16’ long.
