Psico , 2010,

Abstract: population aging is a prominent worldwide phenomenon. in brazil, it is expressed by demographic and epidemiologic transitions. aging can be defined as a physiological process of living beings, slow and continuous, leading to a gradual reduction of the functional reserve of the different organs and systems. many theories exist about the mechanisms of aging; however, none of them, separately, explains the complexity of that biological process. although aging is considered to be "normal", the limit between the physiological and pathological process is often controversial. in this paper, the consequences of aging on the thyroid gland and its hormone production reduction are discussed, attempting to establish what could be considered as an adaptative process and, therefore, physiological, and what would be in fact pathological, meriting therapeutical intervention.

Treatment of Bullfrog Farming Wastewater in a Constructed Wetland  [PDF]
Fernanda de Freitas Borges, Lúcia Helena Sipaúba Tavares
Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2017, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2017.96038
Abstract: The aim of this study was to install and assess the efficiency of a constructed wetland for wastewater treatment from bullfrog farming (Lithobates catesbeianus) at fattening growth phase. Water detention time was not controlled since wastewater input flow varied according to the biomass of animals maintained in stalls. The study was divided into two phases, with higher and lower bullfrog biomass respectively for phase I and II. A higher removal of nitrite, biochemical oxygen demand, and thermotolerant coliforms was observed at phase I whereas a higher removal of turbidity, nitrate, total phosphorus, total suspended solids, total dissolved solids, and chlorophyll a occurred at phase II. Wastewater treatments using constructed wetland systems with high organic load require a higher water detention time for a better load removal. The treatment effect was positive since this wastewater flowed directly into fishponds or streams, which might promote eutrophication. Thus, wastewater treatment is essential to minimize the impact caused by frog farming on receiving water bodies, promoting the sustainability of this activity in Brazil.

Creative Education (CE) , 2016, DOI: 10.4236/ce.2016.72022
Abstract: This text is part of the research carried out in seven units of the National Program for Restructuring and Acquisition of Equipment for the Public School Network of Early Childhood Education (Proinfancia) in operation in the state of Rio de Janeiro. The research aimed to identify the deployment process of the federal program in municipalities, from the organization of enrollment to the arrangements of physical space and the routine for the care of children from 0 - 3 years and from 4 to 5 years, in the units investigated in the state. The methodology consisted of interviews with managers, members of education departments and teachers, participant observation in the units and photographic records of the educational spaces. The combination of information, images and testimonies of those involved in interviews and field observations produces a body of knowledge and leaves clues regarding Infant Education in Rio de Janeiro. Among the findings, we can see both a standardization of routines and a distribution of time centered on an institutional logic that is distant from the needs of children, indicating the possibility of precocious schooling of children in progress. It also shows an organization impregnated with an impoverished model of schooling, with many meaningless lettering, numbering and copying activities and the rare presence of books and toys. Although progress has been made in educational policies which are more in keeping with the population’s needs and drawn from theoretical advances and research results, practical implementation of these is still the weak point for the fulfillment of the political agenda for Early Childhood Education. This paper is organized into three sections: the first contextualizes the research and Early Childhood Education policy in Brazil; the second addresses the methodological options and observed practice, with respect to the role of Early Childhood Education in the institutionalization process; the final considerations look at ways to approach child and adult education based on the results found.

Abstract: a study was carried out to evaluate: (a) direct and indirect effects (path analysis) of eight plant and fruit traits on sweet pepper (capsicum annuum l.) yield; and (b) canonical correlations among the main production factors group (fruit weight and fruit number) and the following groups: (i) early yield (fruit weight and fruit number); (ii) fruit length, fruit width and fruit loculi number; and (iii) fruit length and fruit width. it was studied six parental genotypes, and the f1 hybrids among excluding the reciprocals. the results showed that yield evaluations might be done at the beginning of the harvest due to the remarkable effects of early yields on total fruit weigth, and the canonical correlations significance between early yield and total fruit weigth. total fruit number was the variable which showed greater positive effect on total fruit weigth. reduced fruit width and large number of fruit loculi are correlated with increased total fruit weigth.

Journal of Water Resource and Protection (JWARP) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/jwarp.2014.61002
Abstract:

Environmental pressure, land utilization, and economic feasibility have resulted in the development of alternatives to treatment fish farm wastewater. We examined the influence of two water treatment systems—a constructed wetland (CW) and a soil filter system (SF)—on the constitution of the phytoplankton community analyzed through the functional grouping of species and nutrients removal of aquaculture farm. The CW provided high removal efficiency: 82.9% for ammonia, 87.0% for nitrate, 96.9% for nitrite, 85.5% for total phosphorus, 88.5% for SRP and 71.6% for BOD. Removal efficiency of SF was lower than CW, removing 82.1% of ammonia, 7.2% of total phosphorus, 45.9% of SRP and 39.4% of nitrite, but was satisfactory. The functional group F, made up of Chlorophyceae Dictyosphaerium pulchellum and Kirchneriella lunaris, was the most representative in both systems, followed by functional group P and constituted by Zygnemaphyceae Melosira sp. The number of functional groups decreased in the outlet of the two treatment systems, where S1, H1 and W1, characteristic of eutrophic environment, were retained. Data show that CW and the SF system are potentially applicable to the fish farm wastewater treatment and ensure an improvement in water quality.
