Establishment and characterization of murine bone marrow stromal macrophage line

Abstract: The authors established a murine bone marrow stromal cell line QXMSC1 by discarding the suspensible hematopoietic cells and passaging the adherent stromal cells many times in long-term bone marrow culture. QXMSC1 cells have been passaged 65 times for 15 months and immortalized. The mean number of QXMSC1 chromosomes is 66 ± 4. The appearance of the cells is elliptical. There are many pseudopods and mononuclei under the optical microscope. Many lisosomes and phagosomes in cytoplasm exist under the transmission electron microscope. There are no desmosome junction between the cells, no lipid drops, no intermediate filament. Vimentin is positive and keratin is negative by stain of immunocytochemistry. Nonspecific lipase staining is positive. These results indicate that QXMSC1 cells are murine bone marrow macrophages.

Abstract: In the binuclear title compound, [Cd2(C2H3O2)4(C12H7N3O2)2], the CdII cations are linked by carboxylate O atoms into a four-membered Cd2O2 rhombic ring with a Cd... Cd separation of 3.7515 (5) . Each CdII atom is seven-coordinated by a bidentate 5-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline (5-NO2-phen) ligand and two bidentate acetate anions, one of which also acts as a bridge linking the two Cd atoms. The crystal packing is stabilized by π–π interactions between the phen rings of neighboring molecules, with centroid–centroid distances of 3.491 (2) (intramolecular) and 3.598 (2) (intermolecular).
A Study of Metacognitive-Strategies-Based Writing Instruction for Vocational College Students

Abstract: Effective English writing has long been a challenge in English language teaching. With the development of cognitive psychology, metacognition has drawn more and more researchers’ attention and provides a new perspective for EFL writing. Metacognitive theory mainly includes metacognitive knowledge and metacognitive strategy. Among all the learning strategies, metacognitive strategy is a higher-order executive skill which includes planning, monitoring and evaluating. Once learners have a good command of metacognitive strategy, they will become more independent and autonomous and will be more capable of planning, monitoring and evaluating their learning process and thus become efficient learners. However, the study of metacognitive strategies-based writing instruction for vocational college students has been neglected for the past years. The author, therefore, carried out an empirical study to investigate the effect of metacognitive strategy training on students’ writing performance in the hope of finding an optimal teaching approach for English teachers of vocational colleges. This teaching approach really embodies the teaching idea “student-centered” and is targeted to foster students’ metacognitive strategy, monitoring and evaluating abilities in English writing.

Abstract: Poorly crystalline Ru0.4Sn0.6O2 solid solution with size about 2 nm coated on Ti substrate was prepared by thermal decomposition at 260°C. The electrodes were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for structural and morphological studies. The Capacitance properties of the electrodes were tested by cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge tests. The results show that the electrodes have mud-cracks structure with cracks 0.2 μm in width. The electrode has stable electrochemical capacitor properties with a maximum specific capacitance of 648 F/g within a scan potential window –0.1 - 1.0 V in 0.5 M H2SO4 electrolyte solution.

The Path Integral Monte Carlo Calculation of Electronic Forces

Abstract: We describe a method to evaluate electronic forces by Path Integral Monte Carlo (PIMC). Electronic correlations, as well as thermal effects, are included naturally in this method. For fermions, a restricted approach is used to avoid the ``sign'' problem. The PIMC force estimator is local and has a finite variance. We applied this method to determine the bond length of H$_2$ and the chemical reaction barrier of H+H$_2\longrightarrow $H$_2$+H. At low temperature, good agreement is obtained with ground state calculations. We studied the proton-proton interaction in an electron gas as a simple model for hydrogen impurities in metals. We calculated the force between the two protons at two electronic densities corresponding to Na ($r_s=3.93$) and Al ($r_s=2.07$) using a supercell with 38 electrons. The result is compared to previous calculations. We also studied the effect of temperature on the proton-proton interaction. At very high temperature, our result agrees with the Debye screening of electrons. As temperature decreases, the Debye theory fails both because of the strong degeneracy of electrons and most importantly, the formation of electronic bound states around the protons.

Abstract: Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor, an optical sensor exploiting special electromagnetic waves-surface plasmon polaritons to probe interactions between an analyte in solution and a molecular recognition element immobilized on the SPR sensor surface, has been widely used in various realms, such as investigating biomolecular interactions and binding properties, detection of biological and chemical analytes, environmental monitoring, food safety and medical diagnostics. This paper reviews the development of SPR sensors and SPR commercial instruments, and emphatically introduces the time-resolved surface plasmon resonance (TR-SPR) techniques. The excellent performances of high sensitivity and rapid detection are easily achieved with TR-SPR spectrometer, whereas the traditional SPR spectrometer cannot be accomplished. Therefore, TR-SPR spectrometer is appropriate for real time analysis of bio-recognition events and small molecular dynamics. However, only two commercial TR-SPR instruments have been exhibited at present, Thermo FT-SPR 100 and Autolab ESPRIT (SPRINGLE). Unfortunately, the high-priced instruments are not suitable for extensive applications in laboratories at present. Herein, a novel commercial TR-SPR spectrometer has been introduced in this review.
Expression of NSE and AFI in Fatal Lamb’s Lungs before and after Relieving Ureteral Obstruction  [PDF]

Abstract: Aims: to evaluate the Expression of NSE and AFI before and after relieving ureteral obstruction in fatal lamb’s lungs with unilateral hydronephrosis. Study Design and Subjects: Forty-five pregnant lambs were randomly divided into 3 groups. Eighteen lambs were in the hydronephrotic model group. The second group included 9 lambs in which ureteral obstruction was relieved 3 weeks after the initial operation. Eighteen lambs were in the control group which was just performed open hysterotomies. Outcome measures: The amniotic fluid index (AFI) and the expression of neuronspecific enolase (NSE) in the lungs were tested. Results: In the hydronephrotic model group, the AFI was less and the expression of NSE was greater than the control group. The AFI and expression of NSE were similar to the control group after relieving the ureteral obstruction. Conclusions: The AFI and expression of NSE return to normal after after relieving the ureteral obstruction, which meant that relieving ureteral obstruction is perhaps beneficial to lung development.
Minimax Probability Machine Multialgorithmic Fusion for Iris Recognition

Abstract: This study presents an iris recognition method based on multialgorithmic fusion. Fusion of multiple algorithms for biometric verification performance improvement has received considerable attention. The proposed method combines two kinds of iris recognition algorithms: one is based on phase information and the other is based on zero-crossing representation. Two algorithms are fused at the matching score level and a novel fusion strategy based on Minimax Probability Machine (MPM) is applied to generate a fused score which is used to make the final decision. The experimental results on CASIA and UBIRIS iris image databases show that the proposed multialgorithmic fusion method can bring obvious performance improvement compared to the individual recognition algorithm. The comparison among all fusion strategies also demonstrates that the fusion strategy based on MPM can achieve better performance than traditional fusion strategies.
