New findings on unconscious versus conscious thought in decision making
Felix Acker
Judgment and Decision Making , 2008,
Abstract: Ninety-eight Australian students participated in a functional replication of a study published by Dijksterhuis et al. (2006). The results indicated that unconscious thought does not necessarily lead to better normative decision making performance than conscious thought, which is contrary to the results found in Dijksterhuis et al. Since other studies showed a positive, though statistically not significant, effect for unconscious thought, a meta-analysis comprising a total of 17 experiments was conducted. It suggests that there is little evidence for an advantage to normative decision making using unconscious thought. However, a discussion of potential moderators shows that further study would help to identify situations in which unconscious thought is truly helpful and those in which it is not.
Acker,Antoine;

Constructions of power in the documentary film Maradona, by Emir Kusturica
Ana Maria Acker
Verso e Reverso , 2012,
Abstract: The article analyzes how the lmmaker Emir Kusturica composes the main character in the documentary Maradona, (2008). The constructions of power around the gure of the player are veri ed, especially by the authors Pierre Bourdieu, Max Weber and Erving Go man. The purpose of this paper is to try to understand how the Serbian director explains the Argentine phenomenon in football through out the documentary narrative.
A free boundary problem for the p-Laplacian: uniqueness, convexity, and successive approximation of solutions
A. Acker,R. Meyer
Electronic Journal of Differential Equations , 1995,
Abstract: classical solution of a Bernoulli-type free boundary problem for the $p$-Laplace equation, $ 1 < p < infty $. In addition, we prove the existence of a classical solution in $N$ dimensions when $p = 2$ and, for $ 1 < p < infty $, results on uniqueness and starlikeness of the free boundary and continuous dependence on the fixed boundary and on the free boundary data. Finally, as an application of the trial free boundary method, we prove (also for $ 1 < p < infty $) that the free boundary is convex when the fixed boundary is convex.
Three Neutrino Flavors are Enough
A. Acker,S. Pakvasa
Physics , 1996, DOI: 10.1016/S0370-2693(97)00174-3
Abstract: It is shown that it is possible to account for all three experimental indications for neutrino oscillations with just three neutrino flavors. In particular, we suggest that the solar and atmospheric neutrino anomalies are to be explained by the same mass difference and mixing. Possible implications and future tests of the resulting mass-mixing pattern are given.
Solar Neutrino Decay
Andy Acker,Sandip Pakvasa
Physics , 1993, DOI: 10.1016/0370-2693(94)90663-7
Abstract: We re-examine the neutrino decay solution to the solar neutrino problem in light of the new data from Gallex II and Kamiokande III. We compare the experimental data with the solar models of Bahcall and Pinsonneault and Turck-Chieze and find that neutrino decay is ruled out as a solution to the solar neutrino problem at better than the 98\% c.l. even when solar model uncertainties are taken into account.
Existence and Uniqueness Results for Double-Free-Boundary Problems in Fluid Dynamics
Andrew Acker III
Mathematics , 2012,
Abstract: We study a general double-free-boundary problem which models a stationary flow in a general potential-energy terrain. The existence theorem generalizes (by a different proof) a result of A. Beurling. We also obtain local uniqueness results under stronger assumptions.
