Using schema transforation pathways for biological data integration  [PDF]

Abstract: In web environments, proteomics data integra-tionin the life sciences needs to handle the problem of data conflicts arising from the het-erogeneity of data resources and from incom-patibilities between the inputs and outputs of services used in the analysis of the resources. The integration of complex, fast changing bio-logical data repositories can be potentially sup-ported by Grid computing to enable distributed data analysis. This paper presents an approach addressing the data conflict problems of pro-teomics data integration. We describe a pro-posed proteomics data integration architecture, in which a heterogeneous data integration sys-tem interoperates with Web Services and query processing tools for the virtual and materialised integration of a number of proteomics resources, either locally or remotely. Finally, we discuss how the architecture can be further used for supporting data maintenance and analysis ac-tivities.
Technological Progress, Spatial Competition and Industrial Location: Estimation and Predictions of Cement Industry in Northwest China  [PDF]

Abstract: This study estimates a theoretical multi-region industrial location model by adopting real statistics to investigate the intuition of shaping spatial pattern of economic activities in a case of cement industry in Northwest China. Based on the estimation of key parameters, we simulate the impact of technological progress on variation of location. We find that, given trade cost, with technological progress, operating cost decreases, it is profitable for firms to expand sale range. In long term, technological progress would induce server spatial competition and promote further spatial concentration of industry. Original areas with larger market and fine industrial base are still main agglomerations, while original peripheral areas are further to a downward trend, and parts of original areas located next to hot pot areas have become peripheries. Our study on influence of technological progress on industrial location confirms the importance of investigation on intuition of spatial pattern of economic activities. Technological progress is essentially achievement of sustainable development. However, neglecting substantial spatial competition induced by technology improvement turns against spatial allocation of resources. Hence, optimal location of industries is one of important factors to ensure sustainable development.
Effects of Qingshen Granule on serum interleukin-8 and -18 levels in patients with a sharp deterioration of chronic renal failure and dampness-heat syndrome: a randomized controlled trial

Abstract: Background: Dampness-heat syndrome is a major syndrome type in patients with a sharp deterioration of chronic renal failure (CRF). Qingshen Decoction, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, could relieve the clinical symptoms of CRF patients, and was considered to have a certain reversal effect on rapid deterioration of renal function.Objective: To observe the changes of serum interleukin-8 (IL-8) and IL-18 levels in CRF patients with a sharp deterioration and dampness-heat syndrome, and to explore the curative efficacy of Qingshen Granule.Design, setting, participants and interventions: Sixty CRF patients with a sharp deterioration and dampness-heat syndrome from Department of Nephrology, the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui College of Traditional Chinese Medicine, were randomly divided into treatment group (30 cases) and control group (30 cases), with another 20 healthy individuals as normal control. The patients in the treatment and control groups were all treated with Jiedu Xiezhuo Ⅱ, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine, given as retention enema. Qingshen Granule was additionally administered to the patients in the treatment group with 1 dosage each time and 3 times a day. The treatment course was one month.Main outcome measures: The levels of serum IL-8 and IL-18 in the normal individuals and before and after treatment in the treatment and control groups were detected.Results: The total response rates of treatment group in clinical efficacy assessment and assessment of syndrome of traditional Chinese medicine (86.67% and 86.67%) were higher than those of the control group (56.67% and 60%), and there were significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). The levels of serum IL-8 and IL-18 in CRF patients before treatment were obviously higher than those in the healthy individuals (P<0.01), and there were no differences in the levels of IL-8 and IL-18 before treatment between the treatment group and control group (P>0.05). After one-month treatment, the levels of serum IL-8 and IL-18 were markedly decreased in the two groups (P<0.01), and the levels of serum IL-8 and IL-18 in the treatment group were markedly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). There were differences in decreased degrees of IL-8 and IL-18 levels between the two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion: CRF patients with a sharp deterioration and dampness-heat syndrome have high serum IL-8 and IL-18 levels. Qingshen Granule can reduce the levels of serum IL-8 and IL-18, and improve the renal function and ameliorate the clinical symptoms.

Abstract: In this note, we are concerned with the asymptotic approximation of a class of double integrals which can be represented as an angular spectrum superposition. These double integrals typically appear in electromagnetic scattering problems. Based on the synthetic manipulation of the method of steepest descent path, approximate expressions of the double integrals are derived in terms of the leading term of the contribution to the asymptotic expansions.

Abstract: According to the size of the projector function to evaluate the merits of the program, Projection Pursuit method is applied to real estate investment decision-making by using the real coding based on Accelerating Genetic Algorithm (RAGA) to optimize the Projection Pursuit Classification (PPC) process and a wide range of indicators value was projected linearly. Abstract: Under the premise that the global economic environment is in the turbulence, companies need to strive to make their own in this environment and seek further development, which makes researches on the financial pre-warning particularly important.This article stand in the point of perspective of changes in equity, through the significant difference between the U test build pre-warning indicators, the use of Logit models with owner changes in equity provided by the establishment of early warning financial indicators model, an empirical study of listed companies. The empirical results show that the Logit model based on owners' equity statement in the use of the financial risk pre-warning can accurately predict the financial distress of listed companies.
Blind Deconvolution of Seismic Data Based on the Spearman’s Rho  [PDF]

In this paper, we propose a novel seismic blind deconvolution approach based on the Spearman’s rho in the case of band-limited seismic data with a low dominant frequency and short data records. The Spearman’s rho is a measure of the dependence between two continuous random variables without the influence of the marginal distributions, by which a new criterion for blind deconvolution is constructed. The optimization program for new criterion of blind deconvolution is performed by applying Neidell’s wavelet model to the inverse filter. The noise-free and noisy synthetic data, onshore seismic trace in the Ordos Basin, and offshore stacked section in the Bohai Bay Basin examples show good results of the method.

Size-Dependent Dynamic Behavior of a Microcantilever Plate

Abstract: Material length scale considerably affects the mechanical properties of microcantilever components. Recently, cantilever-plate-like structures have been commonly used, whereas the lack of studies on their size effects constrains the design, testing, and application of these structures. We have studied the size-dependent dynamic behavior of a cantilever plate based on a modified couple stress theory and the differential quadrature method in this note. The numerical solutions of microcantilever plate equation involving the size effect have been presented. We have also analyzed the bending and vibration of the microcantilever plates considering the size effect and discussed the dependence of the size effect on their geometric dimensions. The results have shown that (1) the mechanical characteristics of the cantilever plate show obvious size effects; as a result, the bending deflection of a microcantilever plate reduces whereas the natural frequency increases effectively and (2) for the plates with the same material, the size effect becomes more obvious when the plates are thinner.
