Abstract: marfarlane's relativism about knowledge attributions aspires to be a theory that explains why the central intuitions about them are correct. nevertheless, relativism is incompatible with the accuracy of some intuitions about stanley's cases, with conjunctions of them and with intuitions about cases in which there is less at stake from the assessor than what is at stake from the subject or the attributor. nevertheless, this doesn't establish a limit to the possibilities of relativism, but calls for an improvement of it.

Abstract: stanley's interest-relative invariantism explains most of our intuitions by means of certain relevant examples. but if one postulates that the truth value of knowledge attributions is also relative to the practical situation of the utterer and the assessor, it is possible to explain why all our intuitions on these cases (and not just on most of them) are correct. it is also possible to explain why all our intuitions on new stanley's cases (that explicitly take into account the practical situation of the assessor) are correct.

Abstract: El Invariantismo Relativo al Interés de Stanley permite explicar la mayoría de nuestras intuiciones en torno a ciertos ejemplos relevantes. Pero si también se relativiza el valor de verdad de las atribuciones de conocimiento a la situación práctica del emisor y del evaluador, se puede rescatar todas estas intuiciones, y no solo la mayoría de ellas. Se puede, además, explicar nuestras intuiciones con respecto a nuevos casos de Stanley, en los que explícitamente se toma en consideración la situación práctica del evaluador. Abstract: Los sedimentos denominados informalmente "pampeanos" son reconocidos como un paquete de limos y limos arenosos depositados desde el Plioceno superior hasta el Pleistoceno superior, con dos intercalaciones marinas hacia el este, reconocidas fundamentalmente por acumulaciones de valvas marinas: el Interensenadense, y el Belgranense. En el oeste de la provincia de Buenos Aires una extensa área ha sido denominada Mar de arena. En canales próximos a Daireaux y en acantilados marinos de Centinela del Mar, se describieron depósitos arenosos con estratificación diagonal de mesoescala que prueban la presencia de campos de arena por debajo de los depósitos limosos. Las edades del Pleistoceno superior han sido confirmadas por las asociaciones de vertebrados recuperados. En Centinela del Mar, la edad de estos médanos transversales que conformaban una barrera litoral ha sido también confirmada por su vinculación con el máximo nivel del mar alcanzado durante el interglacial Sangamon (Pleistoceno superior, 120.000 a os AP). The sediments informally called "pampeanos" are recognized as a package of silts and sandy silts deposited from the Upper Pliocene to Upper Pleistocene, interfingered with two transgressions to the east, discriminated by shells concentrations: the Interensenadan and the Belgranian transgressions. To the west of the Buenos Aires province, an extended area with dunes was called Sand Sea. Within channels excavated in Daireaux, and sea cliffs from Centinela del Mar, mesoscale crossbeding were described probing the presence of sand fields overlaid by silt deposits. Upper Pleistocene ages were confirmed by the assemblages of vertebrate remains. In Centinela del Mar, the age of these transverse dunes that are composing a littoral barrier was also confirmed in their relation to the maximum sea level highstand reached during the Sangamon interglacial (Upper Pleistocene; 120,000 years BP).

Abstract: La miocarditis de células gigantes (MCG) es una entidad rara, de causa desconocida, de probable etiología autoinmune. Puede presentarse como insuficiencia cardíaca refractaria, asociarse con arritmias ventriculares y en otras ocasiones simular un infarto agudo de miocardio. Abstract: the giant cell myocarditis (gcm) is a rare disease, of unknown origin, and probably of autoimmune etiology. it can occur as refractory heart failure, associate with ventricular arrhythmias, and mimicking an acute myocardial infarction in certain cases. its prognosis is usually ominous, unless immunosupressive therapy or cardiac transplant is performed, the latter with a high recurrence.

Abstract: In the field of educational psychologically the construct of self-efficacy has received special attention. It has been shown that those students who trust in their own abilities get better academic performance. However, few studies analyze the sources of self-efficacy. Self-efficacy believes are developed according to how people interpret information coming from four different sources: experience skills, vicarious learning, social persuasion, and physiological states. Recently, Usher & Pajares (2009 developed an instrument to assess sources of self-efficacy in Math. The goal of the present work was to evaluate psychometric properties of this scale in a local sample of adolescents from 13 to 15 years old. Preliminary results supported the use of this measure as an adequate alternative to assess self-efficacy in Math. However, more studies are needed in order to obtain a measure more contextualized to the educational system of local students.
A General Purpose Analysis Package  [PDF]

Abstract: This paper presents a general-purpose analysis package able to solve two- and three- dimensional analysis problems. The system can use the following methods of solution: Successive Approximation (SA), Optimal Interpolation (OI), and 3D-Var. Analyses are given for the following parameters: zonal and meridional wind components, temperature, relative humidity, and geopotential height. The analysis package was applied to produce analyses at 6 h time interval for the period 1-11 August 2008. The period was selected for data availability and forty-one analyses were collected. The results show the validity of the different solutions, which can be chosen depending on the physical problem to solve and on the computational resources available. In particular, assuming the observations as the reference, all solutions show a decrease of the RMSE compared to the background. The decrease is consistent with the particular setting of the analysis system used in this paper. The comparison between different solutions shows that the SA converges to OI in few iterations, and that the SA solution with ten iteration is, in practice, equal to OI. Moreover, the 3D-Var method shows its potential to improve the analysis, once the horizontal and vertical length-scales and the background and observational errors are set optimally, because its solution may be sizeably different from two-dimensional methods.

Abstract:

A data assimilation system combines all available information on the atmospheric state in a given time-window to produce an estimate of atmospheric conditions valid at a prescribed analysis time. Nowadays, increased computing power coupled with greater access to real-time asynoptic data is paving the way toward a new generation of high-resolution (i.e. on the order of 10 km) operational mesoscale analyses and forecasting systems. Moreover, better initial conditions are increasingly considered of the utmost importance for Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) at the short range (0 - 12 h). This paper presents a general-purpose data assimilation system, which is coupled with the Regional Atmospheric Modelling System (RAMS) to give the analyses for: zonal and meridional wind components, temperature, relative humidity, and geopotential height. In order to show its potential, the data assimilation systems applied to produce analyses over Central Europe. For this application the background field is given by a short-range forecast (12 h) of the RAMS and analyses are produced by 2D-Var with 0.25? horizontal resolution. Results show the validity of the analyses because they are closer to the observations, consistently with the settings of the data assimilation system. To quantify the impact of improved initial conditions on the forecast, the analyses are then used as initial conditions of a short-range (6 h) forecast of the RAMS model. The results show that the RMSE is effectively reduced for the one- and two hours forecast, with some improvement for the three-hours forecast.
