Performance of Olive (Olea europaea L.) Cuttings Taken from Different Varieties in the Agro-climatic Conditions of Peshawar

Abstract: Olive (Olea europaea L.) cuttings taken from different varieties, were studied at the Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab, Peshawar in February 2000.The cuttings were struck in 3000-ppm solution of IBA for 5 minutes before planting on beds prepared from sand, silt and FYM and then were covered with transparent plastic sheets for arresting proper humidity. Varieties Azarbaijan and Earleeg showed significantly maximum number of leaves per cutting (65.88 and 64.55 respectively) and shoot length (18.21 and 17.88 cm respectively). Variety Azarbaijan gave significantly higher sprouting percentage (48.66%) and the number of shoots per cutting (4.88) followed by variety Earleeg with 35.55% sprouting and 3088 number of leaves per cutting. The shoot diameters were not significantly different in either variety. It can be concluded from the results that variety Azarbaijan gave the best performance followed by Earleeg in the agro-climatic conditions of Peshawar as regards the cutting performance is concerned.
IBA Promotes Rooting in the Hardwood Cuttings of Olive (Olea europaea L.) Cultivars

Abstract: The study was carried out to propagate olive (Olea europaea L.) cultivars from hardwood cuttings with IBA (Indole butyric acid) at 2000, 4000 and 6000 ppm. IBA at 4000 ppm significantly promoted maximum sprouting (90%), highest survival (76.70%) and produced lengthy shoot (5.8 cm) for cultivar Domate and maximum number of roots 6.9 per cutting in the cultivar at 2000 ppm IBA. Root length in the cultivar was increased at 2000 ppm of IBA. The cultivar N.D. Belice was the 2nd best to give good response to various levels of growth regulator. The cuttings of the remaining cultivars showed little response to IBA.

Abstract: Four varieties for instance, Kurram-I, Kurram-2, Kurram-3 and Kurram-4 were screened out from the segregating population at Kurram Agency, Parachinar. Maximum Stem diameter,wider plant spread, significantly higher yield were observed in Kurram-2. Early nut maturity, average Kernel weight, average Kernel percent, lesser number of nuts/Kg and very thin shelled were noted in Kurram-1. Kurram-3 had late matured, more nuts/Kg, thin shelled and more oil percent. Maximum nuts/Kg, very thin shelled and maximum oil percentage were dominanted in Kurram-4. Scion/bud wood of these walnut varieties are available on request to the Director, Agriculture Research, FATA, Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab, Peshawar.
Rooting Response of Semi-hardwood Cuttings of Guava (Psidium guajava L.) to Various Concentrations of Different Auxins

Abstract: The study was conducted to investigate the influence of Indole Acetic Acid (IAA), Indole Butyric Acid (IBA) and Naphthalene Acetic Acid (NAA) each at 0, 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000 or 6000 ppm on the semi- hardwood cuttings of guava (Psidium guajava L.) Cv. Sufida taken in April, 1996. The cuttings were dipped in these solutions for 5 minutes. After treatment, the cuttings were planted and covered with transparent plastic sheet to arrest the water vapours for maintaining humidity. The experiment was laid out in the lathe house of Horticulture Section, Agricultural Research Institute, Tarnab, Peshawar. The auxins had no effect on the number of days to bud sprout whereas, sprouting in itself was significantly increased by IBA at 1000 and 3000 ppm and NAA at 2000 ppm with 79.84, 75.96 and 76.59% respectively. The highest survival (12.50%) was noted in the cuttings treated with IAA at 3000 and 6000 ppm, IBA and NAA both at 6000 ppm. IAA at 3000 ppm significantly increased the number of leaves (16) per cutting. The highest number of roots (23.75) per cutting was recorded in the cuttings treated with IBA at 4000 ppm. The significantly maximum root length (4.13 cm) was noted in the cuttings treated with IAA 3000 ppm. Cuttings treated with IAA at 5000 ppm and IBA at 4000 ppm exhibited significantly highest root weights of 16.25 and 16.62 g respectively.

Abstract: Ratio analysis is a method of assessing and comparing the performance of a company in a particular year to previous years’ performance and possibly with other companies in the same industry. This paper aims at analyzing the financial performance of Tesco Plc between 2010 and 2014 and compares it with the performance of both Morrisons and Sainsbury. The paper intends to make use of financial statements of Tesco, Sainsbury and Morrisons from 2010 to 2014. From the data analysis, it is discovered that from 2010, the financial performance of Tesco Plc is not improving and the shareholders’ wealth has been decreasing. Not only that, the Gross Profit, Return on Capital Employed, Dividend payment, Share prices, etc. have been reducing from year to year. The consequence of this is that Tesco Plc may run into loss in the nearest future if not in 2015. The paper recommends that Tesco needs to adjust his business activities so as to improve its performance.

Abstract: In this work, based on a realization of an inhomogeneous Poisson process whose intensity function depends on a real unknown parameter, we consider a simple hypothesis against a sequence of close (contiguous) alternatives. Under certain regularity conditions we obtain the power loss of the score test with respect to the Neyman-Pearson test. The power loss measures the performance of a second order efficient test by the help of third order asymptotic properties of the problem under consideration.
Characterization of Egyptian Botrytis cinerea Isolates from Different Host Plants  [PDF]

Abstract: Gray mold causes considerable economic losses of fruit and vegetable production. The current study on Egyptian population structure of Botrytis cinerea demonstrates that this species is composed of four TE genotypes: transposa, vacuma, boty and flipper types using transposable elements and sensitivity to the hydroxyanilide fungicide, fenhexamid. The results show that transposa is the predominant isolate type (63.6%) in the sampled populations of B. cinerea. However, the four isolate types are fenhexamid-sensitive regardless of location, host plant and plant organ. Additionally, B. cinerea isolates collected from different host plants do not exhibit any host preference using artificial infection test on lettuce. Furthermore, no relation is found between isolate type and aggressiveness and no divergence event has occurred among the isolates collected from different locations and host plants. The results suggest that host specialization of B. cinerea has not been occurred in the current sampled crops.

Abstract:

Volatility is an important parameter for financial risk management and it is applied in many issues such as option pricing, portfolio optimization, VaR methodology and hedging; thus the forecasting of volatility or variance can be regarded as a problem of financial modelling. The objective of this paper is to forecast FTSE 100 Stock Prices of top 100 companies listed on London Stock Exchange by using the Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) Model. The data for this model are directly obtained from the UK FTSE 100 Index. In this research paper, we have examined the daily returns of FTSE 100 Stock Prices of top 100 companies listed on London Stock Exchange from the thirtieth day of June 2009 to the first day of December 2014 and equally forecasted the daily returns from the first day of December 2014 to the fifth day of February 2015 with the Exponential Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) Model. We found that there is a very high possibility that the stock prices will start to fall as from 5th February 2015 downwards.

Abstract: F3 lines of common bean, Phasweolus vulgaris, from five parental cultivars: V4141, L746, V6816, V1846 and V1825 were tested for disease symptoms to 4 isolates (gramma, Kappa, iota and deltal of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum (Sacc and Magn.) Cchrib. More F3 lines were found resistant in cross 2 (V1864 x V4141), and cross 5 (V1864 x L746) against all the four isolates of C. lindemuthianum. Cross 4 (V1825 x V1864) was found the most susceptible against all the four isolates of C. lindemuthianum.

Some of these instruments are kept only here in this region, and they are not used anymore in the area they originated from. This paper also covers instruments that are rarely used or completely lost in this region.
