The association between prune belly syndrome and dental anomalies: a case report
Basso Maria Daniela,Favretto Carla Oliveira,Cunha Robson Frederico
BMC Oral Health , 2012, DOI: 10.1186/1472-6831-12-56
Abstract: Background Prune belly syndrome is a rare condition produced by an early mesodermal defect that causes abdominal abnormalities. However, the literature indicates that disturbances related to ectodermal development may also be present. This is the first case report in the literature to suggest that dental abnormalities are part of the broad spectrum of clinical features of prune belly syndrome. Because the syndrome causes many serious medical problems, early diagnosis of abnormalities involving the primary and permanent dentitions are encouraged. Case presentation The authors report the clinical case of a 4-year-old Caucasian boy with prune belly syndrome. In addition to the triad of abdominal muscle deficiency, abnormalities of the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts, and cryptorchidism, a geminated mandibular right central incisor, agenesis of a mandibular permanent left incisor, and congenitally missing primary teeth (namely, the mandibular right and left lateral incisors) were noted. Conclusion This original case report about prune belly syndrome highlights the possibility that dental abnormalities are a part of the broad spectrum of clinical features of the syndrome. Therefore, an accurate intra-oral clinical examination and radiographic evaluation are required for patients with this syndrome in order to provide an early diagnosis of abnormalities involving the primary and permanent dentitions.

Débora Oliveira Favretto,Emilia Campos de Carvalho
Online Brazilian Journal of Nursing , 2008,
Abstract: This study aimed to carry out the conceptual validation of the elements of the diagnosis Impaired Verbal Communication and assess its inclusion in the taxonomy. The Concept Analysis step of Hoskins’ Validation Model was used, based on a bibliographic survey with the following descriptors: communication, nursing diagnosis, communication barriers, nursing and patient. The abstracts of 125 articles were identified, 29 of which attended to the inclusion criteria. These were analyzed to identify the defining characteristics for the diagnosis under study. It was observed that the title is limited in relation to the definition and the defining characteristics, which involve different types of communication. All characteristics presented in NANDA were found in literature; four others were also identified. The insertion of the diagnosis in domain 5 and class 5 is pertinent, although the human communication process

Linguagem em (Dis)curso , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S1518-76322010000100003
Abstract: in this paper, we investigate the discursive role of referenciation as a discursive activity of introduction of referents. we examine the lexicalization process in the introduction of the referent "iraq war" in the brazilian magazine veja, working with theories that investigate the role of media in the production and dissemination of symbolic practices. these practices are essential for the construction of our view of the world, especially in the field of international relations. through the articulation of these studies and the critical discourse analysis developed by van dijk, we try to understand the discursive role of referenciation in the symbolic practices of the media. we conclude that referenciation is an important object of analysis that reveals the ideological positions of socio-culturally situated subjects and as such is a central element in the construction of our views of social events.

Psychology (PSYCH) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/psych.2014.517196
Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of Burnout Syndrome among professionals who care for elderly and chronically ill patients and the relationship between the appearance of Burnout and sociodemographic and job related variables. The sample consisted of 265 employees who worked directly with the elderly and chronically ill. It was composed mostly of women, 94.3%. The average age was 43 (SD = 10.2). We made use of the following instruments: a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory—HSS (Semedo, 2009). The results show that 19.6% of participants have high rates of emotional exhaustion, 4.9% present high depersonalization, and 2.6% experience low personal accomplishment. Disease severity and support services influence personal accomplishment. Age proved to be a predictor of the emotional exhaustion variable, while the length of service at an institution variable not only proved to be a predictor of emotional exhaustion, but also of personal accomplishment. The prevention of Burnout Syndrome constitutes one of the major challenges for occupational health care providers to the elderly and chronically ill.
Beyond human and intellectual capital: Profiling the value of knowledge, skills and experience
Oliveira,Teresa Carla; Holland,Stuart;
Comportamento Organizacional e Gest?o , 2007,
Abstract: the concept of human capital is associated mainly with the nobel laureate gary becker and, in his usage, has a clear conceptual basis as investment in the costs of formal education. by contrast, this paper suggests that ?intellectual capital? is a re-branding of knowledge, skills and experience rather than re-conceptualisation of resource based learning. becker also chose not to include informal knowledge, skills or experience within his concept of human capital, which remains limited by its constrained premises. this paper submits that both human capital and intellectual capital advocates fail to identify or measure the tacit knowledge and implicit learning which increasingly is recognised as a key to the competitive advantage of organisations. it first focuses on the conceptual basis of claims made for human capital and intellectual capital, outlines limits in their methodology, and contrasts these with insights from theories of tacit knowledge and implicit learning and the central role within them of informal or non-formal skill acquisition. it develops and illustrates instances of interfacing tacit and explicit knowledge before introducing a methodology for profiling the acquisition of knowledge, ability and skills. it does so by introducing the concepts of non-formal learning-from-work (lfw) and informal learning-from-life (lfl), with evidence from a four country eu case study commissioned within the lifelong learning remit of the lisbon agenda.
