Karaelmas Science and Engineering Journal , 2012, DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.7212%2fzkufbd.v2i2.92
Abstract: In this study, the using as an additive of steel slag ((Basic Oxygen Furnace Slag-BOS)) was investigated with the aim of improving clayey soils. In this way, while improving geotechnical properties of clayey soils, ensuring a high tonnage industrial waste recycling will be provided. Investigation of effect of BOS on the low plasticity clay, behalf of the examination of interactions with different additives was investigated in combination with powder lime. Samples were reconstituted by adding various percentages (by weight) of BOS, lime and both of them. The experiments were applied on the samples in according to the ASTM D4609 which about chemical soil stabilization. According to experimental results, at the end of the 28 days, unconfined compression (qu) value of Uzun iftlik clay is 350 kPa and its strain is 12%. When %5 lime and %3.33 BOS were added in clay, qu value increases approximately 11 times and takes on the value 4000 kPa and the strain values of the mixture are decrease %2. Same mixture increased approximately 23 times of soaked CBR values, reached from %6 to %135.The results of this study show that, steel slag, currently known as an industrial by-produce, caused by increases on the strength of properties of clays in the desired direction and if it is used with lime, much more effective. So, steel slag can be used as an additive on the low plasticity clayey soil.

Case Reports in Medicine , 2010, DOI: 10.1155/2010/541061
Abstract: Genomic DNA of a patient diagnosed with nonobstructive azoospermia and with the history of allogenic bone marrow transplantation from his sister due to chronic myeloid leukemia was isolated from peripheral blood in order to screen Y chromosome microdeletions. 13 short tagged sites belonging to AZF a, b, and c loci were detected with multiplex polymerase chain reaction technique. Bands were determined in ZFX/ZFY wells, whereas no bands were determined in wells of other STS regions. DNA isolation was done from buccal mucosa smear to obtain genomic DNA from patient's own cells and multiplex polymerase chain reaction technique was performed again. Bands were seen in all wells of 13 STS regions. Y chromosome microdeletion was not detected in the patient. In conclusion, genomic DNA isolation in patients undergoing BMT should be done from patients' own cells.
Arteriovenous malformation of auricula: Case report

Dicle Medical Journal , 2010,
Abstract: Arteriovenous malformation is the existence of a directcommunication between an artery and vein without capillaryconnections. Although arteriovenous malformations(AVMs) are frequent in head and neck region, it is rare inear, especially in auricula. A thirty three year old femalepatient presented with hemorrhagic mass in her auricula.Radiological and histopatological examinations revealedan AVM that was limited to auricula. The mass is excisedand reconstructed with a local pediculated flap. This casewas presented together with a literature review.

Journal of Clinical and Experimental Investigations , 2011,
Abstract: Unilateral agenesis of the parotid gland is an extremelyrare disorder. Only a few cases have been reported in theliterature. Although this entity is usually asymptomatic, sometimes it may be important. For an example thenormal parotid gland can be thought like a tumor due tothe facial asymmetry. Accompanied by clinical and radiologicalfindings, we present a case of unilateral parotidgland agenesis without involvement of other major salivaryglands and together with a compensatory hypertrophyof the contralateral parotid gland. Balkan Medical Journal , 2012,
Abstract: Vulvovaginitis caused by Shigella species (Shigella spp.) has rarely been reported. This paper describes two cases of prepubertal vulvovaginitis, presenting with a bloody and purulent vaginal discharge, separately caused by ampicillin-resistant Shigella flexneri and trimethoprim-sulfomethoxazole-resistant Shigella sonnei. Our conclusions are that Shigella spp. is the potential cause of vulvovaginitis in prepubertal girls in developing countries where these pathogens are endemic, and identification of the bacteria and making antibiotic susceptibility testing in these cases should not be overlooked.
The Economic and Environmental Impacts of Constructing Hydro Power Plants in Turkey: A Dynamic CGE Analysis (2004-2020)  [PDF]

Natural Resources (NR) , 2010, DOI: 10.4236/nr.2010.12007
Abstract: Since Turkey’s economy and population is rapidly growing, Turkey mostly meets its energy demand from imported fossil sources due to the very limited indigenous oil and natural gas resources. However, Turkey has abundant renewable resources especially, hydro power potential to be used for generation of electricity. But only one-third of this significant economical potential could be used. This usage seems insufficient when compared with that of European countries. In order to analyze the potential long term impacts of the hydro power expanding shock on some macroeconomic variables of interest such as GDP, real consumption, real investment, exports, imports, trade balance, and carbon emissions, we developed TurGEM-D, a dynamic multisectoral general equilibrium model of the Turkish economy. Using TurGEM-D, we analyzed the impact of hydro power shock under policy scenario doubling hydro power generation. The simulation results show that doubling hydro power have slightly positive effects on macro indicators and carbon emissions for Turkish economy.

Open Journal of Earthquake Research (OJER) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/ojer.2014.34014
Abstract: In this paper an approach to estimate near-surface seismodynamic features by using distance- amplitude reduction with geotectonic characteristics of the upper crust in the Eastern Anatolia is discussed. The data set used in this study consists of 287 regional earthquakes in the magnitude range of 3.0 - 6.1, epicentral distances between 15 km and 202 km and their focal depths reaching up to 13 km. The entire study area is divided into three tectonic blocks according to the distribu-tions of the earthquakes and the location of the fault segment. The estimated quality factor QP-S  values for the three regions ranged from 28.6 to 65, highlighting the regional differences in the seismodynamics of the crust. In Eastern Anatolia, the relatively low average quality factor values (QP: 37, QS: 55) show average (0.217) and average values ( \"\"P: 0.0166, \"\"S: 0.017). The lowest Q/QP  value 1.39 and the highest VP /VS  value 1.65 are found at the Mus station. The highest Poisson’s ratio  \"\" and lowest absorption coefficient  \"\" were found in the Mus area. The variation in Q ,  \"\" and  \"\"indicates that the northern part (Erc and Kem region) of East Anatolia appears to be more active and heterogeneous compared with the southern part (Mus region) of East Anatolia.
Long-Run Effects of Customs Union between European Union and Turkey: Is it Zero-Sum Game  [PDF]
Nedret Demirci, Levent Aydn
Modern Economy (ME) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/me.2011.22018
Abstract: Without being a full member of the European Union, Turkey’s participation to the Unity raised some substantial and continued questions in Turkey about the economic results of an regional integration. Some argue that, particularly adoption of the Union’s common external tariff regime would have a devastating effect on Turkey’s trade. The aim of this paper is to search the pros and cons of customs union associated with common external tariff between Turkey and European Union. Our study especially focuses on the effects of common external tariff to Turkey’s trade. The simulation results show that Turkey has been benefiting from the noticeable tariff liberalization as well as improved market conditions in line with EU since it ratified custom union with EU.
Coupling Interactions and Trapped Effects for a Triple-Well Potential  [PDF]
Sezgin Aydn, Mehmet ?im?ek
Journal of Modern Physics (JMP) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/jmp.2011.28106
Abstract: Weak and strong coupling interactions and trapped effects have always played a significant role in understanding physical and chemical properties of materials. Triple-well anharmonic potential may be modeled for interpretation of energy spectra from the nuclear to macro molecular systems, and also crystalline systems. Exact periods of a trapped particle in each well of the potential are explicitly derived. For the extended Duffing system, it is predicted that infinite series of both frequency and spatial trajectory approach to exact results in the limit of weak-coupling cases (g→0).
