Software as A Service: Analysis of ‘Google Sites’ as KM Tool for Academic Environment

Abstract: This paper analyzes different factors related with a newly launched ‘Google Sites for suitability as the knowledge management tool in academic environment. The cost of software purchase and its maintenance is a big issue for academic and business world. The emergence of high speed Internet has given rise to new concepts like software as a service. SaaS (Software as a Service) has a new way out, the software is made and maintained by the software firm and used by the organization (Educational / Business). If the software is provided by the Google then it is double benefit for any organization. Paper discusses different factors like privacy, scalability, support, Technology, ease of use, provision of essential services, Internal communication facilities, searching capability, accessibility, control and administration, licensing location & management and Cost of 'Google Sites' for implementing it as a KM tool in academic environment.

Abstract: Knowledge propagation is the challenge. Better society requires best knowledge management practices and use of latest tools and technologies. Knowledge management is dealing with the problem of different languages in big countries. Also knowledge is present in different forms. It may be knowledge encoded in laws, decrees, standards, policies, rules and regulations and orders. All these forms of knowledge must be combined together so that it is readily available for general public in their own language. In addition there should be a proper knowledge propagation mechanism. Knowledge propagation becomes difficult in multiple languages. Recently mobile phones and in car computers have become widely used in third world country. These moving devices have amazing features like continuous connectivity, location detection, facility of voice and data processing. This attracts Knowledge Management researchers to consider Mobile computing devices and mobile computers as the medium of knowledge propagation. This study proposes a framework for knowledge propagation through voiceXML in different languages using Mobile phone or in car pc as the delivery medium. Voice interface requires minimum resources and works well in the moving car. The study will enhance the knowledge of mobile computing community knowledge communication. In near future this area of study and its related studies will be greater part of applied mobile computing.

Nanocomposite coatings based on Ti-N-Cr/Ni-Cr-B-Si-Fe, gained by two technologies

Abstract: The first results of manufacturing and investigations of a new type of nanocomposite protective coatings are presented. They were manufactured using a combination of two technologies: plasma-detonation coating deposition with the help of plasma jets and thin coating vacuum-arc deposition. We investigated structure, morphology, physical and mechanical properties of the coatings of 80-90 μm thickness, as well as defined the hardness, elastic Young modulus and their corrosion resistance in different media. Grain dimensions of the nanocomposite coatings on Ti-N-Cr base varied from 2.8 to 4 nm. The following phases and compounds formed as a result of plasma interaction with the thick coating surface were found in the coatings: Ti-N-Cr (200), (220), y-Ni3-Fe, a hexagonal Cr2-Ti, Fe3-Ni, (Fe, Ni)N and the following Ti-Ni compounds: Ti2Ni, Ni3Ti, Ni4Ti, etc. We also found that the nanocomposite coating microhardness increased to H = 31.6 ± 1.1 GPa. The Young elastic modulus was determined to be E = 319 ± 27 GPa – it was derived from the loading-unloading curves. The protective coating demonstrated the increased corrosion resistance in acidic and alkaline media in comparison with that of the stainless steel substrate.

Abstract: The proposed system presents a novel approach of building a secure data hiding technique of Steganography using Integer Wavelet Transform along with Genetic Algorithm. The prominent focus of the proposed work is to develop Resistant Secure-analysis proof design with highest imperceptibility. Optimal Pixel Adjustment Process is also adopted to minimize the difference error between the input cover image and the embeddedimage and in order to maximize the hiding capacity with low distortions respectively. The analysis is done for mapping function, Peak Signal to Noise Ratio, image histogram, and parameters of RS analysis. The implementation results highlights that the proposed security measure basically gives better and optimal results in comparison to prior research work conducted using wavelets and Genetic Algorithm
Determination of Di-n-Butyl Phosphate in Organic Streams of FBTR Mixed Carbide Fuel Reprocessing Solution by Gas Chromatographic Technique  [PDF]

Abstract: The present work describes the amount of Di-n- butyl phosphate (DBP) produced when PUREX solvent (30%tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP) mixed with 70% hydrocarbon diluent) is exposed to intensive radiolytic and chemical at- tack during the separation of uranium and plutonium from fission products of FBTR mixed carbide fuel reprocessing solution. DBP is the major degradation product of Tri-n-butyl phosphate (TBP). Amount of DBP formed in the lean organic streams of different fuel burn-up FBTR carbide fuel reprocessing solutions were analyzed by Gas Chromatographic technique. The method is based on the preparation of diazo methane and conversion of non-volatile Di-n-butyl phosphate in to volatile and stable derivatives by the action of diazomethane and then determined by Gas Chromatography (GC). A calibration graph was made for DBP over a concentration in the range from 200 to 1800 ppm with correlation coefficient of 0.99587 and RSD 1.2%. The degraded 30% TBP-NPH solvent loaded with heavy metal ions like uranium was analyzed after repeated use and results are compared with standard ion chromatographic technique. A column comparison study to select of proper gas chromatographic column for the separation of DBP from other components in a single aliquot of injection is also examined.
Comparison of BER of OFDM System using QPSK and 16QAM over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channel using Pilot-Based Channel Estimation

Abstract: This paper investigate and compare the various channel estimation techniques based on pilot arrangement with the communication system that uses QPSK and 16-QAM to transmit information using OFDM over multipath Rayleigh fading channel. Bit Error Rate (BER) has been considered as the performance index in all analysis. In the block type pilot arrangement, the performance of channel estimation is analyzed with three different algorithms: LS, LMMSE and SVD algorithm. In comb type pilot arrangement, the paper introduces three method of interpolation: linear interpolation, second order interpolation and cubic spline interpolation for channel estimation. The analysis has been carried out with simulation studies under MATLAB environment.
Optimization of machining parameters of turning operations based on multi performance criteria

Abstract: The selection of optimum machining parameters plays a significant role to ensure quality of product, to reduce the manufacturing cost and to increase productivity in computer controlled manufacturing process. For many years, multi-objective optimization of turning based on inherent complexity of process is a competitive engineering issue. This study investigates multi-response optimization of turning process for an optimal parametric combination to yield the minimum power consumption, surface roughness and frequency of tool vibration using a combination of a Grey relational analysis (GRA). Confirmation test is conducted for the optimal machining parameters to validate the test result. Various turning parameters, such as spindle speed, feed and depth of cut are considered. Experiments are designed and conducted based on full factorial design of experiment.
