International Journal of Geosciences (IJG) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/ijg.2013.410145

The objective of the study is to establish the hydrological characteristics, the hydrological behavior of river basins in arid and semi-arid south-eastern Algeria (establish of methodologies and necessary working tools for planning the development and management of water resources). The study on floods in Algeria is established by the National Agency of Water Resources (ANRH shows that the country is confronted with the phenomenon of very destructive floods and floods especially in arid and semi-arid regions). Flooding of rivers in these areas is less known. They are characterized by their sudden duration (rain showers, thunderstorm). The duration of the flood is in the order of minutes to hours. The human and material damages caused by these floods are still high. The study area encompasses three watersheds in semi-arid, arid south and Algeria. There are pools of Chott-Melghir (68,751 km2), highland Constantine-07 (9578 km2) and El Hodna-05 basin (25,843 km2). The total area of this zone is about 104,500km2.

Frequency dependence of the electrical conductivity and dielectric constants of polycarbonate (Makrofol-E) film under the effects of γ-radiation  [PDF]

Natural Science (NS) , 2011, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2011.312129
Abstract: Irradiation effects of γ-radiation on the physical and electrical properties of polycarbonate (Makrofol-E( film has been studied to be able to investigate the dielectric response of irradiated polymers for a wide range of fluence and frequency. The dielectric constant (ε') The loss tangent (tanδ), dielectric loss factor (ε''), the a.c electrical conductivity (σ) and the relaxation time (τ), were measured in the frequency range from (40) Hz to (4) MHz. These samples were irradiated by means of γ-rays from 10 up to 200 KGy. The change in different properties as a function of absorbed dose was studied. Degradation of the polymers leading to amorphisation was observed by increasing the absorbed γ- dose. The induced changes in the electrical conductivity due to γ-rays irradiation of Makrofol-E provide a better method for γ -dose measurements. A semi-empirical equation was developed to use Makrofol-E as a dielectric dosimeter. Furthermore, Makrofol-E has much greater resistance to radiation damage; the attained results suggested strongly the applicability of Makrofol-E to be used in medical products applications.
Influence of gamma-ray irradiation on optical and thermal degradation of poly (ethyl-methacrylate) (PEMA) polymer  [PDF]
S. Fares
Natural Science (NS) , 2012, DOI: 10.4236/ns.2012.47067
Abstract: Polymer based on (polyethyl-methacrylate) (PEMA) were exposed to different doses of gamma radiation up to 100 kGy and the physical properties have been studied. The effects of gamma irradiation on the optical spectrum of PEMA films have been investigated using spectrophotometric measurements of reflectance and transmittance in the wavelength range 200-1100 nm. The structure of the sample is analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique and is found to be amorphous and partially crystalline. TGA studies revealed that the thermal stability of polyethyl methacrylate, improved after irradiation doses up to 100 kGy. On other hand driving absorption coefficient α(ω), consequently the band tail width Ee and optical band gap estimated. This behavior is believed to be associated with the generation of excess of electronic localized states. Also, Optical constants such as refractive index (n), extinction coefficient (K) have been determined using Swanepole method. Optical dispersion parameters and the dispersion parameters, such as Eo (single–oscillator energy), Ed (dispersive energy) are discussed in terms of the single-oscillator Wemple-DiDomenico model.
The Use of Cortical Bone Wedges from the Mandibular Ramus “Wedge Technique”: For 3-Dimensional Bone Augmentation of the Atrophic Ridges. Technique Presentation and Report of Case Series  [PDF]
Fares Kablan
Open Journal of Stomatology (OJST) , 2018, DOI: 10.4236/ojst.2018.86021
Abstract: Purpose: Autogenous bone was still considered as the gold standard in bone augmentations prior to implants insertion at the atrophic ridges. However if large bone grafts are needed to augment multiple edentulous atrophic segments, extraoral donor sites may be mandatory. The aim of this report is to introduce the Fares Wedge Technique, as a new bone augmentation method that can augment multiple edentulous ridges with intraoral cortical bone grafts. Methods: This report includes patients with moderate to severe ridge atrophy in different regions of the both jaws who were treated over 6-years period (2009-215) with wedge Technique (WT). Patients received panorex immediately after the surgery, and they were examined clinically and radiographically (periapical) every 2 weeks. At 4 months, computed tomography was performed to evaluate the bone gain. Reentry was performed after 4 to 5 months to evaluate the new bone volume and quality and to insert implants. At this stage specimens for histologic examination were also obtained. Results: 39 augmentation sites in 22 patients (15 women, 7 men: mean age 47 years) were followed 12 to 52 months. The healing process was uneventful, with minimal morbidity. The success rate was 95%, and the bone gain average was 3 - 6 mm vertically and 3 - 9 mm horizontally. In two patients the graft was partially exposed and treated with shaving and rounding the exposed wedges, but the augmentations were saved. In one case the majority of the bone graft was lost. At 38 sites the patients had successfully received 114 implants. Conclusions: wedge technique can augment multiple segments of atrophic ridges with small amount of autogenic graft. The bone volume that achieved was satisfying, especially that the majority of the augmented areas were at posterior mandibular defects.
Pedro Páramo de Juan Rulfo y la nueva física
Cuadernos del CILHA , 2009,
Abstract: this article analyzes the ways in which notions from classical and modern physics are present in modern literature in general, and in juan rulfo's novel, pedro páramo, in particular. the article analyzes the role of the reader in the creation of the work, and proposes readings of the novel taking into account representations of reality based on concepts such as field, subjectivity, and disorder, advanced by twentieth-century physics.
