Abstract: It has recently been verified using the Nintendo Wii in the health context. The aim of this study was to analyze the acute cardiovascular responses monitored by the behavior of heart rate, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and double product in an environment virtually simulated by Nintendo Wii. The sample was consisted of 18 health college students with mean age 22.07 ± 1.34 years. The variables were observed with use of delta analysis (post value – prior value) after 25 basketball shoots in two experimental situations: (I) seating and (II) jumping vertically. The results suggest the physical activity in a virtual environment emulated by Nintendo Wii is able to change the acute cardiovascular responses, mainly when performed in association with vertical jumps. Thus, the results support the feasibility use of the Nintendo Wii in training programs and favor its indication more securely.

Abstract: this study analyzed factors that contribute to relations of trust within a private woodlot producer program managed by a cellulose industry in minas gerais state. one hundred and forty one questionnaires were completed by interviewing small woodlot rural producers that participate in 32 municipalities within 7 of the state's microregions. the sampling was performed by random stratification according to the following criteria: a) woodlot producers with completed contract (pfcf) who have finished at least one contract with the cellulose firm and b) woodlot producers with contract in progress (pfca) who have not yet completed a contract. in general, the program's woodlot producers will sign contracts only for the first forest cut. this means that they are obligated to deliver to the company 97% of the wood from the first cycle of production. however, for the second cycle, 18% of those interviewed showed interest in selling their wood to the cellulose firm regardless of whatever price variations might occur for competing forest markets such as for charcoal. if no significant fluctuations occur in these competing markets it is possible that as many as 50% of woodlot producers might sell their second cut to the cellulose firm. once rural producers sign on to the program, 98.4% of them complete their contractual obligations. trust and trustworthiness were confirmed as existing in relationships between the cellulose firm and woodlot producers. however, there are some factors in the woodlot program that contribute to mistrust, including the wood measurement system, transport costs and the absence of a pricing policy easily understood by woodlot producers.

Pesquisa Agropecuária Brasileira , 2000, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-204X2000001000019
Abstract: the objective of this work was to quantify the potassium forms in four latosols (oxisols) from campos das vertentes, mg, brazil, physiographical zone, influenced by different parent materials, and to evaluate their capacity to furnish potassium to two native forest species (peltophorum dubium and senna multijuga) and to corn (zea mays). the experiment was conducted in greenhouse conditions at soil science department of universidade federal de lavras, in lavras, mg, brazil, in a completely randomized design, with six replications. for the characterization of potassium forms (total, non-exchangeable, available, exchangeable and in solution) and determination of the quantity/intensity ratio, soil composite samples from superficial (0-20 cm) and subsuperficial (20-60 cm) layers were utilized. the results showed that, among the evaluated k forms, only the total k was related to the parent material, being the highest values observed for the soils influenced by pellitic rocks. the exchangeable and the available k were the forms which more contributed to the total k. the in solution k presented elevated concentration in the four soils. for the peltophorum dubium and senna multijuga, the dark-red and una latosol revealed adequate amounts of k for the initial growth of these species, while for the corn there was response to this nutrient application.

Abstract The role-playing games (RPG) were created in the middle 1970’s in the United States, and since then, have been attracting the attention of several people throughout theworld, forming groups of players affectionated by the pleasure of playing and performing. The RPG is similar to improvised theater, and, as it is a non-competitive game, promotes the development of cooperation, interaction, creativity and imagination situations. In education, the role-playing games have been largely used for differentpurposes, such as to diversify and make classes more dynamic and interesting for students and teachers. However, very little or almost nothing has been discussed and questioned about the possible influences those games have in the formation of juvenile identities. Therefore, the purpose of this text is analyse one particular RPG game, “Vampiro: A Máscara”, under the point of view of Cultural Studies, and to check which possible identity marks have been used by the players of this game.

Abstract: The objective of this study was to quantify the sucrose amount in commercial lemon-type soft drinks through dispersive Raman spectroscopy, comparing the amount listed in the nutritional table of each product to the predicted by a least-square model, in order to obtain a method for quality assurance applied to soft drinks. A dispersive Raman spectrometer was employed using 830 nm laser and imaging spectrograph coupled to a CCD camera, and a total of 48 samples from four brands of lemon-type soft drinks were analyzed. A calibration curve using sucrose from refined sugar (sugarcane) diluted in spring water was elaborated in the range between 0 and 15.0 g/100 ml, and a quantification model based on Partial Least Squares (PLS) regression was developed to correlate the Raman spectra and the amount of sucrose in each dilution. Then, the sucrose in each soft drink sample was predicted employing the calibration curve. The mean error of calibration for the PLS method was 0.30 g/100 ml (3.0%). Results indicated that soft drinks samples have predicted sugar content ranging from 8.1 to 10.9 g/100 ml, with an error of the predicted value compared to the nutritional table ranged from 1.1% to 5.5%. Therefore, Raman spectroscopy in association with PLS regression was an effective method for quantifying the sucrose, with small prediction error. Thus, the present work allows to infer auspicious possibilities of Raman spectroscopy application in the quantification of relevant nutritional facts in beverages.
Application of the Hori Method in the Theory of Nonlinear Oscillations
Sandro da Silva Fernandes
Mathematical Problems in Engineering , 2012, DOI: 10.1155/2012/239357
Abstract: Some remarks on the application of the Hori method in the theory of nonlinear oscillations are presented. Two simplified algorithms for determining the generating function and the new system of differential equations are derived from a general algorithm proposed by Sessin. The vector functions which define the generating function and the new system of differential equations are not uniquely determined, since the algorithms involve arbitrary functions of the constants of integration of the general solution of the new undisturbed system. Different choices of these arbitrary functions can be made in order to simplify the new system of differential equations and define appropriate near-identity transformations. These simplified algorithms are applied in determining second-order asymptotic solutions of two well-known equations in the theory of nonlinear oscillations: van der Pol equation and Duffing equation.
Optimization of Low-Thrust Limited-Power Trajectories in a Noncentral Gravity Field—Transfers between Orbits with Small Eccentricities
Sandro da Silva Fernandes
Mathematical Problems in Engineering , 2009, DOI: 10.1155/2009/503168
Abstract: Numerical and first-order analytical results are presented for optimal low-thrust limited-power trajectories in a gravity field that includes the second zonal harmonic 2 in the gravitational potential. Only transfers between orbits with small eccentricities are considered. The optimization problem is formulated as a Mayer problem of optimal control with Cartesian elements—position and velocity vectors—as state variables. After applying the Pontryagin Maximum Principle, successive canonical transformations are performed and a suitable set of orbital elements is introduced. Hori method—a perturbation technique based on Lie series—is applied in solving the canonical system of differential equations that governs the optimal trajectories. First-order analytical solutions are presented for transfers between close orbits, and a numerical solution is obtained for transfers between arbitrary orbits by solving the two-point boundary value problem described by averaged maximum Hamiltonian, expressed in nonsingular elements, through a shooting method. A comparison between analytical and numerical results is presented for some maneuvers.
