Electron transfer reactions of piperidine aminoxyl radicals

Abstract: This review article summarizes the electron transfer reactions of piperidine aminoxyl radicals. Electrochemical studies revealed the single electron transfer nature of piperidine aminoxyl radicals. In solution, piperidine aminoxyl radicals serve as single electron transfer oxidation reagent to react with various biologically interesting molecules such as glutathione, cysteine, ascorbic acid, and amines. The reaction product distribution, reaction kinetics, intermediates, and the reaction features in biological mimic environments including micelles and cyclodextrins were investigated. Oxoammonium salts, the one-electron transfer oxidation products of piperidine aminoxyl radicals, are agents of organic synthesis to selectively generate ketones or di-ketones from alcohols or ketones bearing α-methylene group under mild conditions. The new reactions of oxoammonium salts with aromatic amines, phenols, heterocycles including phenothiazines, papaverine, and bilirubin are also illustrated.
Coupling between Collective Excitations of a Bose--Einstein Condensate and Modulated Interactions

Abstract: We investigate collective excitations of a Bose--Einstein condensate in the presence of temporal modulation of repulsive interactions, and analytically demonstrate that the modulated interaction can drive the condensate to oscillate with the external modulation frequency, and that the interaction couples with the eigen modes of the condensate collective excitations, which was previously considered to be independent of interaction. When the external modulation frequency approaches or is far away from the eigen frequency of the density monopole mode, the condensate shows resonant or beating behaviour.
Wideband Cavity-Backed Patch Antenna for PCS/IMT2000/2.4 GHz WLAN

Abstract: A wideband cavity-backed patch antenna is presented for operating at PCS, IMT200, and 2.4 GHz WLAN bands. A parasitic patch and a probe with a capacitor patch is used to enhance the bandwidth. The cavity-backed and without cavity-backed antenna has been compared. It has been found that the cavity backed antenna has wide impedance bandwidth of 43% and high gain level. It can simultaneously serve most of the modern wireless communication applications that operate at 1.7 GHz-2.5 GHz.
Effects of Chinese herbs for replenishing qi and resolving stagnation on transforming growth factor-β1 of skin ulcers in rats with diabetes

Abstract: Objective: To explore the effects of Yiqi Huayu Recipe, a compound traditional Chinese herbal medicine for replenishing qi and resolving stagnation, on transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1) of skin ulcers in rats with diabetes.Methods: Sixty rats were randomly divided into six groups, Yiqi Huayu Recipe-treated group, Yiqi (replenishing qi) Recipe-treated group, Huayu (resolving stagnation) Recipe-treated group, basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) treated group, untreated group and normal control group. Diabetes was induced by peritoneal injection of streptozotocin and skin ulcers were made by surgery method in rats except for the normal control group. Then the rats were administered with different drugs respectively, and the expression of TGF-β1 in granulation tissue of the skin ulcers was detected with the methods of Western blotting, image analysis and immunohistochemistry.Results: The level of TGF-β1 expression in the untreated group was lower than that in the normal control group (P<0.01); and the level of TGF-β1 expression in the drug-treated groups was higher than that in the untreated group (P<0.01); and the TGF-β1 expression in the Yiqi Huayu Recipe-treated group was higher than that in the Yiqi Recipe-treated group, Huayu Recipe-treated group and bFGF-treated group (P<0.05).Conclusion: The replenishing qi and resolving stagnation therapy can control the secretion of TGF-β1 of the wound in the process of wound healing in the levels of gene and molecule.
Novel Approach for Quantitative Measurement of Matrix Metalloprotease-1 (MMP1) in Human Breast Cancer Cells Using Mass Spectrometry  [PDF]

Identification and quantification of low abundance growth factors and regulators in complex biological samples still present a challenging task in analytical biochemistry. Immunoassays are often used for such purpose but immunoassays face limitation of both availability and qualities of antibody reagents that are necessary for development of immune assays. With genomics data base available, mass spectrometry (MS) can analyze protein tryptic peptides directly for quantitative determination of proteins. In this study, we report a method for detection of matrix metalloproteinase 1 (MMP1), an important extracellular matrix modulator, in human breast cancer cells by quadrupole time-of-flight (Q-TOF) MS. Absolute quantification of MMP1 was conducted using the selected reaction monitoring (SRM) on a triple quadrupole (Triple-Quad) MS via transitions selected from MMP1 tryptic peptides using non isotope labeled MMP1 protein as a titration standard. In comparison with immune based assay, this MS method showed picogram level sensitivity for quantitative determination of MMP1 intotal cell lysates. Our results demonstrated the feasibility of absolute quantification of low abundance proteins using label-free protein standard by mass spectrometry. Therefore, this method provides not only advantages of high sensitivity but also cost saving in comparison with the commonly used mass spectrometry that currently employs isotype labeled proteins for quantitative analysis.

Abstract: For a large class of integral operators or second order differential operators, their isospectral (or cospectral) operators are constructed explicitly in terms of $h$-transform (duality). This provides us a simple way to extend the known knowledge on the spectrum (or the estimation of the principal eigenvalue) from a smaller class of operators to a much larger one. In particular, an open problem about the positivity of the principal eigenvalue for birth--death processes is solved in the paper.

Fabrication of Polypyrrole Nanowire and Nanotube Arrays

Abstract: Large area highly uniform and ordered polypyrrole nanowire and nanotubearrays were fabricated by chemical oxidation polymerization with the help of a porousanodic aluminium oxide (AAO) template. Under 0.2 moL/L pyrrole (H2O) and 0.2 moL/LFeCl3 (H2O) pattern, polypyrrole nanowire arrays were obtained after 2.0 hourspolymerization reaction in a two-compartment reaction cell. When the reaction wasstopped after 15 minutes, polypyrrole nanotube arrays have been formed. The diameter,length and density of compositive nanowires and nanotubes could be controlled byparameters of AAO template.
A Wavelet Neural Network for SAR Image Segmentation

Abstract: This paper proposes a wavelet neural network (WNN) for SAR image segmentation by combining the wavelet transform and an artificial neural network. The WNN combines the multiscale analysis ability of the wavelet transform and the classification capability of the artificial neural network by setting the wavelet function as the transfer function of the neural network. Several SAR images are segmented by the network whose transfer functions are the Morlet and Mexihat functions, respectively. The experimental results show the proposed method is very effective and accurate.
The multicomponent (2+1)-dimensional Glachette--Johnson (GJ) equation hierarchy and its super-integrable coupling system

Abstract: This paper presents a set of multicomponent matrix Lie algebra, which is used to construct a new loop algebra \tilde{A}M. By using the Tu scheme, a Liouville integrable multicomponent equation hierarchy is generated, which possesses the Hamiltonian structure. As its reduction cases, the multicomponent (2+1)-dimensional Glachette--Johnson (GJ) hierarchy is given. Finally, the super-integrable coupling system of multicomponent (2+1)-dimensional GJ hierarchy is established through enlarging the spectral problem.
