Abstract: the trend in nutritional transition in this century leads to an occidentalized diet, which, allied to a decrease in physical activity, results in increasing of obesity all over the world. it raises the risk of morbidity and mortality, since obesity is the first step to several diseases such as diabetes type ii, hypertension, cardiovascular and gallbladder diseases. obesity is not only a scientific and public health problem, but also an industry of pharmacos, special foods and governmental strategies to encourage people to be more active and to provide more food information in order to promote better habits. several studies all around the world discuss the causes and treatments for obesity. in this way, this paper summarizes these researches, approaching the elements associated with higher obesity incidence and prevalence, the diseases related to overweight and the treatments for reducing body fat.
Obesidade: hábitos nutricionais, sedentarismo e resistência à insulina
Pereira, Luciana O.;Francischi, Rachel P. de;Lancha Jr., Antonio H.;
Arquivos Brasileiros de Endocrinologia & Metabologia , 2003, DOI: 10.1590/S0004-27302003000200003
Abstract: obesity has been reported as a worldwide epidemic independent of economical and social conditions. the possible causes of increased mortality and morbidity associated with obesity have been focused by several studies that attempted to understand the syndrome x, one of the consequences of obesity. this syndrome is characterized by various metabolic disorders such as insulin resistance, hypertension and dyslipidemia. it is widely known that genetic factors influence the prevalence of obesity. however, the increasing rate of obesity over the past 20 years cannot be explained by changes in the gene pool. in this way, the major factors involved in obesity are related to environmental aspects as dietary intake and reduced energy expenditure. in the attempt to develop obesity in animals as a means of carrying out studies related to the condition, many experimental models have been developed. although these animal models cannot be expected to exactly mimic human obesity, they may still be of great value in studying the mechanisms inducing augmented deposition of fat and its consequences.

Prado, Rachel Bardy;Novo, Evlyn Márcia Le?o de Moraes;
Sociedade & Natureza , 2007, DOI: 10.1590/S1982-45132007000200001
Abstract: this research aimed to understand the fast water degradation process in overpopulated áreas as a result of inadequate land use and land cover practices. therefore, the objetive of this study is to assess the relationship between the trophic state of the barra bonita reservoir(sp) and the pollution potential of its drainage basin in space and time. the trophic state determination was based in water samples collected at 32 stations evenly distributed in the lake in two dates: 1990 and 2002. these samples were used to determine the key parameters for the computation of the trophic state index (tsi), which was then spatialised with aid of the esri arcview 3.2 sofware. the pollution potential was based on several data: land use and land cover maps derived from the landsat /thematic mapper images acquired in 1990 and 2002; population growth and nitrogen and phosphor load. the results showed the increase in the water trophic level from 1990 to 2002, but this increase was not homogenous. the water quality degradation, as expressed by the tsi was highest in tietê river compartment due to response to the higher pollution potential of s?o paulo city. the space and time integrated analyses of the terrestrial and aquatic system allowed to conclude that the water quality degradation is closely connected to both land use and land cover changes in the drainage basin and to the population growth. other important finding was that the pollution potential is not homogenous throughout the drainage basin, and that therefore, the pollution control police must be focused in more critical areas, where the degradation is more intense.

Perspectivas en Nutrición Humana , 2010,
Abstract: introduction: the beliefs, thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationship with food, all together, constitute eating attitudes. objective: to develop and perform the psychometric evaluation of the spanish version of the disordered eating attitude scale (deas). methods: the original scale was translated into spanish, back translated and compared to the original version; discrepancies were not observed. the spanish version was applied to hispanic undergraduate female college students (n=218). internal consistency was determined using cronbach's alpha; convergent validity was assessed by correlation (spearman) between spanish deas and the eating attitude test -26 (eat-26). reliability was evaluated applying twice the scale to a sub-sample (n=26) within a 30 days interval. spearman's correlation coefficient (r) was used to compare the test and retest scores. results: internal consistency was 0,70. the deas total score was significantly associated with eat-26 scores (r=0,54). the correlation between test-retest was r=0.81. conclusion: the spanish version of deas is reliable, valid and precise and will be useful to evaluate eating attitudes in different population groups and in eating disorder patients in spanish spoken countries.

Abstract: the purpose of this article is the evaluation of s?o domingos river basin (sdrb) water quality and tentative correlations with natural and anthropic polluting sources. in order to achieve it, physicochemical parameters were analyzed in 65 surface and groundwater sampling points, in accordance to standards established by the brazilian environmental authority, conama 357/05, class 2, for surface water and conama 396/08, class human, consumption for groundwater. the analyzed parameters include major cations and anions, temperature, ph, electric conductivity, total dissolved solids (tds), alkalinity, dissolved oxygen (do), biochemical oxygen demand (bod), thermotolerant coliforms, organochlorides and organophosphorus compounds. parameters with concentrations more frequently in unconformity with regulations are: aluminum, boron, iron, manganese, nitrates, do, bod and some organochlorides and organophosphorus compounds. results show that distribution of contamination is strongly influenced by the human presence, such as rural and urban population and tomato culture. natural aspects also play a major role, since availability of aluminum, iron, and manganese in near-surface waters in tropical environment depends on input from processes taking place in leaf litter and topsoil.

Einstein (S?o Paulo) , 2011,
Abstract: Premature ejaculation is the most frequent male sexual dysfunction, estimated to affect 20 to 30% of men at some time in their life. A Pubmed search from the year 2000 to the present was performed to retrieve publications related to management or treatment of premature ejaculation. Behavioral techniques have been the mainstay of premature ejaculation management for many years, although evidence of their short-term efficacy is limited. Topical therapies for premature ejaculation act by desensitizing the penis and do not alter the sensation of ejaculation. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), commonly used in the treatment of depression, are often used to treat premature ejaculation, based on the observation that delayed ejaculation is a frequent side effect of this drug class. Dapoxetine is a short-acting SSRI formulated to treat premature ejaculation, and results seem very promising.
Limites e possibilidades dos programas de acelera??o de aprendizagem
Sousa, Clarilza Prado de;
Cadernos de Pesquisa , 1999, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-15741999000300004
Abstract: this article analyzes the limits and possibilities for schools to include students with schooling deficits who receive support from the accelerated learning programs, in their regular education processes. based on evaluations of these programs done by professors from the post graduate program in educational psychology of the pontifical catholic university of s?o paulo and by researchers from the nucleus for educational evaluation of the carlos chagas foundation, the results will be discussed in two analytical categories. in the first category, i analyze the effects of the teaching strategies promoted by the programs on the learning and progress of the participating students. in the second category, i seek to analyze the possibilities for integration/inclusion of these students in the regular educational process. finally by way of conclusion, i try to make some theoretical-methodological considerations. distinguishing between integration and inclusion i discuss the limits and possibilities of the actions that the programs would have to undertake to really promote the development of a school without exclusion.
O conto policial e as origens da psicanálise
Oliveira, Prado de;
Psicologia Clínica , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0103-56652009000100009
Abstract: the myth of oedipus is the first "mystery" adventure of our time and one of the most modern: a man searches for a murderer without knowing that he himself is the criminal. freud ignores sherlock holmes, but this is the one that an ideal reflection requires a dim light and a couch. some stories by edgar allan poe have become required passages in french psychoanalytic thought, not without some trouble. since freud's first studies on leonardo da vinci, applied psychoanalysis has always encountered difficulties that may not be so different from the ones faced by individual psychoanalytic technique. this article examines them.
