The Three-Wave Resonant Interaction: Deformation of the Plane-Wave Solutions and Darboux Transformations

Abstract: The plane wave solutions of the three-wave resonant interaction in the plane are considered. It is shown that rank-one constraints over the right derivatives of invertible operators on an arbitrary linear space gives solutions of the three-wave resonant interaction that can be understood as a Darboux transformation of the plane wave solutions. The method is extended further to obtain general Darboux transformations: for any solution of the three-wave interaction problem and vector solutions of the corresponding Lax pair large families of new solutions, expressed in terms of Grammian type determinants of these vector solutions, are given.
Akns Hierarchy, Self-Similarity, String Equations and the Grassmannian

Abstract: In this paper the Galilean, scaling and translational self--similarity conditions for the AKNS hierarchy are analysed geometrically in terms of the infinite dimensional Grassmannian. The string equations found recently by non--scaling limit analysis of the one--matrix model are shown to correspond to the Galilean self--similarity condition for this hierarchy. We describe, in terms of the initial data for the zero--curvature 1--form of the AKNS hierarchy, the moduli space of these self--similar solutions in the Sato Grassmannian. As a byproduct we characterize the points in the Segal--Wilson Grassmannian corresponding to the Sachs rational solutions of the AKNS equation and to the Nakamura--Hirota rational solutions of the NLS equation. An explicit 1--parameter family of Galilean self--similar solutions of the AKNS equation and the associated solution to the NLS equation is determined.
Diversity and distribution of tardigrades (Bilateria, Tardigrada) from the Iberian Peninsula, Balearic Islands and Chafarinas Islands

Abstract: Bibliographical information on the Tardigrada from Iberian Peninsula, Balearic Islands and Chafarinas Islands is compiled herein. 118 species are listed from the studied area. The first records of six Tardigrada species, Dactylobiotus parthenogeneticus, Dactylobiotus selenicus, Murrayon dianeae, Diphascon (Diphascon) nodulosum (first time in Europe), Diphascon (Diphascon) pingue and Isohypsibius marcellinoi that had not previously been found in the area are included. Bibliography data are analysed. After the analysis, it is concluded that more intensive, extensive and within more diverse habitats sampling effort should significantly increase the knowledge of tardigrade diversity in the studied area. En este artículo hemos recopilado la información existente en la bibliografía acerca del phylum Tardigrada en la Península Ibérica, Islas Baleares e Islas Chafarinas. La lista de especies del phylum Tardigrada incluye 118 especies en el área de estudio. Además, incluimos seis especies encontradas por primera vez en el área de estudio: Dactylobiotus parthenogeneticus, Dactylobiotus selenicus, Murrayon dianeae, Diphascon (Diphascon) nodulosum (por primera vez encontrado en Europa), Diphascon (Diphascon) pingue e Isohypsibius marcellinoi. En base al análisis realizado con los datos recopilados de la bibliografía, podemos concluir que un peque o aumento en el esfuerzo de muestreo (intensivo, extensivo y aumentando la diversidad de hábitats recolectados) se traduce en un aumento significativo de la diversidad del phylum en el área estudiada.
The Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 Receptor Is Essential for Axonal Regeneration in Adult Central Nervous System Neurons

Abstract: Axonal regeneration is an essential condition to re-establish functional neuronal connections in the injured adult central nervous system (CNS), but efficient regrowth of severed axons has proven to be very difficult to achieve. Although significant progress has been made in identifying the intrinsic and extrinsic mechanisms involved, many aspects remain unresolved. Axonal development in embryonic CNS (hippocampus) requires the obligate activation of the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R). Based on known similarities between axonal growth in fetal compared to mature CNS, we decided to examine the expression of the IGF-1R, using an antibody to the βgc subunit or a polyclonal anti-peptide antibody directed to the IGF-R (C20), in an in vitro model of adult CNS axonal regeneration, namely retinal ganglion cells (RGC) derived from adult rat retinas. Expression of both βgc and the β subunit recognized by C20 antibody were low in freshly isolated adult RGC, but increased significantly after 4 days in vitro. As in embryonic axons, βgc was localised to distal regions and leading growth cones in RGC. IGF-1R-βgc co-localised with activated p85 involved in the phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K) signaling pathway, upon stimulation with IGF-1. Blocking experiments using either an antibody which neutralises IGF-1R activation, shRNA designed against the IGF-1R sequence, or the PI3K pathway inhibitor LY294002, all significantly reduced axon regeneration from adult RGC in vitro (~40% RGC possessed axons in controls vs 2–8% in the different blocking studies). Finally, co-transfection of RGC with shRNA to silence IGF-1R together with a vector containing a constitutively active form of downstream PI3K (p110), fully restored axonal outgrowth in vitro. Hence these data demonstrate that axonal regeneration in adult CNS neurons requires re-expression and activation of IGF-1R, and targeting this system may offer new therapeutic approaches to enhancing axonal regeneration following trauma.

Probabilistic Perception, Empathy, and Dynamic Homeostasis: Insights in Autism Spectrum Disorders and Conduct Disorders

Abstract: Homeostasis is not a permanent and stable state but instead results from conflicting forces. Therefore, infants have to engage in dynamic exchanges with their environment, in biological, cognitive, and affective domains. Empathy is an adaptive response to these environmental challenges, which contributes to reaching proper dynamic homeostasis and development. Empathy relies on implicit interactive processes, namely probabilistic perception and synchrony, which will be reviewed in the article. If typically-developed neonates are fully equipped to automatically and synchronously interact with their human environment, conduct disorders (CD) and autism spectrum disorders (ASD) present with impairments in empathetic communication, e.g., emotional arousal and facial emotion processing. In addition sensorimotor resonance is lacking in ASD, and emotional concern and semantic empathy are impaired in CD with Callous-Unemotional traits.
Two-Dimensional Integrable Systems and Self-Dual Yang-Mills Equations

Abstract: The relation between two--dimensional integrable systems and four--dimen\-sional self--dual Yang--Mills equations is considered. Within the twistor description and the zero--curvature representation a method is given to associate self--dual Yang-Mills connections with integrable systems of the Korteweg--de Vries and non--linear Schr\"odinger type or principal chiral models. Examples of self--dual connections are constructed that as points in the moduli do not have two independent conformal symmetries.
Quality of extra virgin olive oil affected by several packaging variables

Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the evolution of the quality index of three extra-virgin olive oil varieties (EVOO), stored according to different packaging variables for one year. The selected quality parameters were: acidity index, peroxide value (PV), K270 coefficient, fatty acid (FA) profile, carotenoids and chlorophylls. This study was carried out by monthly analyzing several bottled EVOO varieties -Picual, Hojiblanca and Arbequina- obtained during the present harvesting season. In addition, other Picual EVOO stored in a mill deposit, as well as bottled Picual EVOO from the previous harvesting season were analyzed monthly. The oils were packaged in dark and transparent glass bottles. The results showed that the acidity and K270 parameters increased slightly in all cases, while PV value changes were significant in EVOOs stored in transparent glass bottles. FA profiles were slightly modified throughout the storage period, although oleic acid slightly increased at the end of the analytical period, especially in the EVOO stored in deposits. Regarding pigment, chlorophylls losses were more noticeable than those related to carotenoid. According to the present results, the best packaging conditions for EVOO were deposits, followed by dark glass bottles. In addition, this study demonstrated that EVOO collected from the previous harvesting season and stored under nitrogen atmosphere could be packaged in glass bottles without appreciable quality changes, as compared with EVOO packaged in the same bottles and obtained during the current harvesting season. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la evolución de los índices de calidad de tres variedades de aceite de oliva virgen extra (EVOO), almacenado según diferentes condiciones durante un a o. Los parámetros de calidad seleccionados fueron: índice de acidez, valor de peróxidos (PV), coeficiente K270, perfil de ácidos grasos (FAs), carotenoides y clorofila. El estudio fue realizado analizando mensualmente tres variedades de EVOO: -Picual, Hojiblanca y Arbequinaobtenidas de la cosecha anual, envasado en botellas oscuras y transparentes de cristal. Otro aceite Picual envasado en depósitos fue también analizado mensualmente. Los resultados muestran que la acidez y el índice K270 aumentaron ligeramente en todos los casos, mientras que las variaciones del PV fueron más significativas en EVOO almacenado en botellas transparentes de cristal. Los cambios de perfiles de FAs fueron mínimos durante todo el período de almacenamiento, aunque el ácido oleico aumentó ligeramente al final del período de almacenami
Validating a test to assess early childhood learners’ ability to perceive, express and appreciate emotions

Abstract: Emotional Education, regardless of the school level, has an important mission in the goal of any educational project: socialising younger generations. However, it is also important to assess implemented programs by means of a valid, reliable measure of the progression of children’s’ cognitive and emotional development. Using a sample of 138 early childhood learners (aged from 3 to 6) this paper tested an instrument for assessing the ability to perceive, appreciate and express emotions (as defined by Mayer & Salovey’s model, 1997; 2007). Also, external criteria were developed by teachers on several issues related to children’s social and personal adaptation (school rules, achievement, impulsiveness, social acceptance of peers and hostility). Findings suggest that children from 3 to 6 years who obtain best scores in the perception and assessment of basic emotions are considered by their teachers to better adjust to school rules, to better control impulses, to achieve better academic performance and to be less problematic. It is also important to note that the study is at its initial stages and presents some limitations, as certain important variables such as personality and verbal ability are not controlled. Nevertheless, it should be pointed out that children showed great enthusiasm in taking the test.

Abstract: Partiendo de la hipótesis de la amplia influencia que los trabajos de Mercedes Rodrigo Bellido han tenido en la Psicología y la Pedagogía, tanto espa ola como colombiana, nos dispusimos a llevar a cabo el presente trabajo de investigación. Nuestro objetivo general fue visibilizar la figura de esta autora a través de la revisión de su obra, así como de los escritos que sobre ella han dejado otras autoras, como Fania Herrero, quien elaboró su tesis doctoral en torno a esta psicopedagoga semi-oculta en el pasado. Tras la revisión de los textos seleccionados encontramos que la figura de Mercedes Rodrigo Bellido fue especialmente importante para la Psicología colombiana, siendo su mayor contribución la creación del primer programa de formación en Psicología, que pudo extender por toda América Latina. Así mismo, fue artífice de otras muchas importantes contribuciones relacionadas especialmente con la creación de puentes entre la psicopedagogía europea y la espa ola, o con la toma de conciencia de que la Psicología tenía que tener su propio campo de trabajo, ya que sus contenidos venían siendo abordados desde diversas especialidades tales como la Medicina o la Teología. En Espa a, tuvo además un importante papel en los inicios de la Psicología Aplicada. Todas sus estas importantes aportaciones de Mercedes Rodrigo Bellido contrastan con la escasa atención que hasta ahora esta eminente psicopedagoga madrile a ha tenido en nuestro campo de conocimiento.
