Abstract: ABSTRACT: To characterise symptoms of macronutrient and boron deficiencies in hybrid clones ofEucalyptus grandis with Eucalyptus urophylla, a trial was conducted using nutrient solution, withtreatments including complete solution and minus N, minus P, minus K, minus Ca, minus Mg, minus Sand minus B with four replicates. Descriptions of the symptoms were made monthly, 4 months afterthe establishment of the treatments. Samples of leaves were collected to determine nutrient concentrations,taking the fifth and sixth leaf as standards, counted from the tip of the branches in both upperand lower parts of the crown. Another sampling was performed, collecting only leaves with deficiencysymptoms,for N, P, K and Mg using old leaves and for Ca, S and B young leaves. The sequence of symptomsappearance was N, P, B, K, Ca, Mg and S. Nutrients concentrations in leaves of treatments withomitted nutrients were lower as compared to leaves of the complete treatment, indicating that thesymptoms described were really due to the deficiency effect. The nutrient concentration of leaves withhigh symptoms was smaller than those for the fifth and sixth leaves, except for calcium. Eventhough,these leaves appeared to be adequate to predict nutritional deficiencies in Eucalyptus. The highestintensity of symptoms occurred for boron and the lowest for sulphur.
What Is a Good Legislative Definition?  [PDF]
Adrian Sgarbi
Beijing Law Review (BLR) , 2013, DOI: 10.4236/blr.2013.41004

When normative authorities (that is to say, “Legislators”) assume the task of assigning the meaning of normative texts, they use, fundamentally, two techniques: these are called “interpretative laws” and “legislative definitions”. In this study, relating to the research “problems of production and normative performance”, we deal with the analysis of definitions in the legal field.

The Mystery of Freedom and Neurolaw  [PDF]
Adrian Sgarbi
Beijing Law Review (BLR) , 2015, DOI: 10.4236/blr.2015.62014
Abstract: In the case of Steward Mach. Co. v. Davis, Judge Benjamin Nathan Cardozo said that “Till now the law has been guided by a robust common sense which assumes the freedom of the will as a working hypothesis in the solution of its problems”. This hypothesis, which has previously been defended almost wholly within the confines of philosophical reflections on human responsibility, now seems to be undergoing a new wave of considerations. This is because neuroscience has been brought to bear in court proceedings in order to challenge the existence of human free will, in cases of both civil and criminal law. In the media, to a greater or lesser degree, various specialists have published the results of all kinds of experiments along with diagrams and graphs, technical advice and new machines to back up their claims. Currently, the use of some of these techniques in court and their lack of sustainability in many situations has, in turn, been emphasized, especially in the context of judicial proof (and reasonable doubt). In this sense, we can say that the issue of free will has been considered, but not always clearly, on three different levels: as a problem of description, of substance or of prescription. At the descriptive level is the question of what exactly we mean when we talk about free will. On the substantive level is the question of whether or not human beings actually possess this quality called free will. And finally, on the prescriptive level is the question of what we do with this knowledge. In this article, we offer an analysis of the problematic relationships between these three levels, beginning with a critical look at certain descriptive positions. In the end, it is suggested that these isolated descriptions, whether in the field of neuroscience, or philosophy, have led to an impasse whose effect is that the assertion that freedom in human behaviour is an illusion, and free will, a great mystery. As a possible way out, we present three modifications to the debate in order to extend its intelligibility beyond the boundaries of the legal profession.
Aristotele e il problema della soggettività
Sgarbi, Marco;
Trans/Form/A??o , 2011, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31732011000500009
Abstract: philosophers usually attribute to modernity the invention of concepts like 'subject', 'object' and 'subjectivity' and they understand them in contrast to scholastic and aristotelian philosophies. the present paper suggests the presence of a proto-theory of subjectivity in aristotle. the aristotelian theory of subjectivity is grounded principally on four doctrines. first, we can recognize the presence of a 'perspective' and of a 'point of view' in the aristotelian epistemology. the second relevant aspect is the concept of determination of the object of knowledge, which is in aristotelian philosophy the notion of 'prosthesis'. the third doctrine lies on the distinction between 'what is more known to us' (gnorimoteron emin) and 'what is more known by nature' (gnorimoteron te physei). the last doctrine concerns the 'second nature' of the subject and the habits of knowledge acquired by experience, which explain why knowing subjects have different cognitions of the same object according to their own previous experience
Metaphysics in K?nigsberg prior to Kant (1703-1770)
Sgarbi, Marco;
Trans/Form/A??o , 2010, DOI: 10.1590/S0101-31732010000100004
Abstract: the present contribute aims to reconstruct, using the methodology of intellectual history, the broad spectrum of metaphysical doctrines that kant could know during the years of the formation of his philosophy. the first part deals with the teaching of metaphysics in k?nigsberg from 1703 to 1770. the second part examines the main characteristics of the metaphysics in the various handbooks, which were taught at the albertina, in order to have an exhaustive overview of all metaphysical positions.
At the Origin of Leonardo’s Ideal Man All’origine dell’uomo ideale di Leonardo
Claudio Sgarbi
Abstract: After the discovery and the research developed in the last twenty years, it has been possible to announce, in 2010, a convincing attribution for the manuscript brought to the attention of the public as Vitruvio Ferrarese. The author is Giacomo Andrea da Ferrara. Luca Pacioli defined him a great expert on Vitruvius and a very close friend of Leonardo da Vinci (“suo quanto fratello”). The discovery of the author was possible just because of the profound relationships between the drawings of Giacomo Andrea and Leonardo in the creation of the famous Vitruvian Man. The reconstructed phases of the drawing process show that the beginning of the formation of the images took place on the folios of the manuscript by Giacomo Andrea with an intense collaboration with Leonardo. Notwithstanding the creative team work, taking place between the two artists in Milan at the end of XV century, Giacomo and Leonardo ended up representing rather different ideal men. The tragic death of Giacomo Andrea in 1500 has obscured his role in the culture of the Renaissance.

In alternativa le presentazioni degli studenti sono scaricabili nel contributo di Claudio Sgarbi, in formato .pdf, cliccando sui link attivi presenti sui nomi degli studenti] Carleton University in Ottawa offers students of the Master Program in Architecture the opportunity to spend a semester abroad, where they can attend courses on theory, history, technology and architectural design. Claudio Sgarbi, as coordinator and teacher, chose Bologna as the best place in Italy for workshops in the last three years. In 2011, during the three months design period, the aim was to design the ExStaveco area. The theme, definitely urban, was very complex for architecture students educated in Canada and with little experience on European cities, whit the task to imagine an urban renovation for the entire area. But the imagination does not take account of cultural barriers so that some proposals, despite their shallowness, deserve to be deepened. Many students, after weeks of research, site visits, readings, discu
Morphometric analysis of the Brasiliorchis picta complex (Orchidaceae)
Pinheiro, Fábio;Barros, Fábio de;
Brazilian Journal of Botany , 2009, DOI: 10.1590/S0100-84042009000100003
Abstract: one of the largest genera of orchidaceae in the neotropics with about 450 species, maxillaria presents several taxonomic uncertainties about its generic circumscription and the delimitation of species groups, mainly due to the large variability of some species. the present study aims at verifying the morphological variation and species delimitation in the brasiliorchis picta complex, a recent new genus derived from maxillaria, using morphometric multivariate analysis. a total of 340 specimens belonging to six species (b. chrysantha (barb. rodr.) r.b. singer, s. koehler & carnevali, b. gracilis (lodd.) r.b. singer, s. koehler & carnevali, b. marginata (lindl.) r.b. singer, s. koehler & carnevali, b. picta (hook.) r. singer, s. koehler & carnevali, b. porphyrostele (rchb. f.) r.b. singer, s. koehler & carnevali and b. ubatubana (hoehne) r.b. singer, s. koehler & carnevali) were analyzed using multivariate methods (pca, cva, da, and cluster analysis with upgma). b. gracilis shows the largest morphological discontinuity, mainly due to its smaller size. the other species tend to form distinct groups, but intermediate characteristics between pairs of species induce overlaps among the individuals of different species and thus confuse the distinction of each one. hybridization and geographic distribution can be involved in the differentiation of the species and lineages in this complex. because the species classified a priori in this work cannot be recognized by the quantitative characters measured here, such other tools as geometric morphometry and molecular data should be employed in future works to clarify species relationships in this complex.
Novas combina??es, novas ocorrências e notas sobre espécies pouco conhecidas, para as orquídeas do Brasil
Barros, Fábio de;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1994, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061994000100002
Abstract: two new combinations are proposed for brazilian orchids: cyrtopodium polyphyllum (veil.) pabst ex f. barros and pseudolaelia canaanensis (ruschi) f. barros. maxillaria perparva garay & dunsterv. is reported for the first time for brazil. illustration of maxillaria friedrichsthalii rchb. f. and platystele ovalifolia (focke) garay & dunsterv., two species seldom collected in brazil, are given.
Diversidade taxon?mica e distribui??o geográfica das Orchidaceae brasileiras
Barros, Fábio de;
Acta Botanica Brasilica , 1990, DOI: 10.1590/S0102-33061990000100013
Abstract: orchidaceae is one of the largest plant families, and each of its subfamilies have a delimited distribution. the genus laelia, with 7 subsections, 5 of which occuring in brazil, shows interestingly evolutionary characteristics. laelia sect. parviflorae, which occurs mainly in minas gerais (brazil) is an example of "explosive evolution" still in process. the taxonomic treatment of the orchid family is not uniform from taxa to taxa which leads to many small genera in some groups and few large genera in some other groups.
