Bone harvest of mandibular symphysis has been used in maxillofacial reconstruction procedures. The aim of this research was to establish the presence of bone repair into osseous defect caused by removal of bone. Thirty patient s, 2 female and 8 male, ranging between 21 and 65 years of age underwent surgery for chin bone harvest and alveolar reconstruction. The surgery was performed by two maxillofacial surgeons and the patients were evaluated with lateral radiography in the pre-operatory stage, in early post-operatory and in late post-operatory stages. Horizontal and vertical measures of bone defect were realized; the dates were analyzed by Student t test with a value of p<0.05. After bone harvest, a vertical defect of 12.80 ±1.99 was observed and a horizontal defect of 8.33 ± 1.77 was observed. After one year the defect decreased to 32.8% in vertical evaluation, and 50.3% in the horizontal evaluation with a statistical significance (p<0.05) in relation to the early post-operatory stage. Therefore, we conclude that in bone repair of mandibular symphysis defect is close to 30 - 50% in a one-year follow-up.

The relationship between the actors of the supplementary healthcare system in Brazil is characterized by complex conflicts of interests and power struggles, which can be analyzed by the agency theory. This theory - combining elements of economic sciences, mainly consumer and market theories, with ideas derived from organizational and behavioral studies - divides the economic agents in principals and agents. The analysis of the supplementary healthcare market reveals its many actors play simultaneously the roles of agent and principal. This duality of roles is the root of most conflicts, originating several regulation mechanisms which try to reduce agency costs derived from conflicts of interests that are the main cause of this sector's agency issues.

Abstract: One of the advantages of a Conversational Agent is that it stimulates social presence among Distance Education students, providing continuous psychological and pedagogical support. However, the interaction between students and virtual agents is often functionally ineffective. In this regard, this study aims to investigate students’ mood states, inferred by chat log analysis of interactions between students and a Conversational Agent, relating such mood states with the students’ perceptions about the tool. The study was conducted with a sample of students attending a Distance Education post-graduation course. The results showed the relationship between interest, utility and satisfaction perceived by the students with mood states detected by the log analysis. Also, the underutilization of the Conversational Agents was diagnosed, and improvements to be implemented so that negative mood states?which?can be overcome were identified. The research brings contributions on?building better Conversational Agents for educational purposes.

Abstract: Canine mammary tumors (CMT) are very common in female dogs, representing approximately 50% of all tumors in this species, but are highly uncommon in male dogs and are primarily related to hyperestrogenism. There is considerable scientific interest in the possible role of environmental contaminants in the etiology of mammary tumors, specifically in relation to synthetic chemical substances released into the environment to which living beings are either directly or indirectly exposed. In this study, the presence of pyrethroid insecticide was observed in adipose tissue adjacent to canine mammary tumors. High Precision Liquid Chromatography—HPLC was adapted to detect and identify environmental contaminants in adipose tissue adjacent to malignant mammary tumor in one male dog, Akita, 12 years old. After surgery, the mass was carefully examined for malignant neoplastic lesions. Five grams of adipose tissue adjacent to the tumor was collected to detect environmental contaminants. The pyrethroid was identified as tetramethrin, at 0.20 μg/g. This is the first report in which the environmental contaminant level was detectable in adipose tissue of this male dog with a malignant mammary tumor, by HPLC. Results suggest the possible involvement of pyrethroid in the canine mammary tumor carcinogenesis since this animal did not present any other tumor that could cause hyperestrogenism.

Engineering (ENG) , 2014, DOI: 10.4236/eng.2014.63017
Abstract:

Stress concentration and large displacements are usual problems in the components of the structure of agricultural machinery such harvesters coffee, and that finite element method (FEM) can be a tool to minimize its effects. The goal of this paper is to get results of stresses and displacements of a coffee harvester structure by using FEM for static simulation. The main parts of the coffee harvester analyzed were: engine frame, body right and left sides, front and rear end, main beam, coffee reservoir, wheels and fuel tank. Two different design concepts of a coffee harvester machine were analyzed (structure with rear wheels aligned and misaligned) and the results were compared. It was observed that the model with rear wheels misaligned showed maximum displacement lower than the model with rear wheels aligned. Although higher stress was found in the rear wheels misaligned, it was observed that average stresses for the misaligned wheels design were lower in most structural components analyzed. Based on FEM results, the coffee harvester machine with misaligned rear wheels was built and subjected to operational tests without showing any structural failure.
